Peter mentioned Jim Rooney, here's an interview I did with Jim Rooney where he talks about John Prine giving him a tour of Paradise, Kentucky. It's pretty damn great. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5mmopaKnd-KnrM

"Space Monkey" came up in my que when I was listening to a Peter Case playlist on KZbin Music the other day. Peter is a really decent guy. It just shines through. Blessings to John Prime, and thank you for posting this stuff, Otis.❤️

John Prine told this same story in a concert I was at, just before he sang Space Monkey.

Definitely brilliant , Peter CASE is such an interesting cat. The fact that he hung out with Bob NEUWIRTH and wrote songs is wild. Speaking of books, Jim ROONEY wrote a fantastic book about the blues , a two fer kind of thing between Muddy WATERS and Bill MONROE.

Peter let the audience throw out requests at one show and I was lucky enough to be selected. My request was Space Monkey which I’d heard him do at an earlier show.

Listening to y'all tell stories reminds me of a friend of mine. He use to have a lot of great stories about working with some of the artists he knew.I wonder if either of you knew him. He a passed away several years ago. He was an acquaintance of Prines. His name was Cal Freeman. Played pedal steel for Gatemouth Brown, Roy Clark, Jay Boy Adams, Gallery, Ray Price and many others. Also was a songwriter, manager etc. Wrote a song with Leroy Drumm called Takin a Slow Train that was recorded by Larry Sparks.

"Different from a lot of people you meet in music, he was aware of other people, it wasn't all about him" Somehow I think this was probably the reason for his great music and success
@gwapower10 ай бұрын
if you judge success by being recognized as a great storyteller/poet. he basically walked away from material success and kinda became a Hobo for the last few decades... plimsouls were one of the best groups outta LA ... he walked away from that. I did enjoy speaking with him 12 years ago - he is just like this interview... a wise, experienced poet. but if he woulda pursued 'music success' - we would have probably had several years - if not decades - of his amazing vocals and story-songs. He left LA - and became a hobo. no Peter Case Juniors to fill our play lists...

I always enjoy stories and Peter Case has some great ones with names of many of my favorite musicians and songsters. Peter Case like Ian Tyson, Tom Russell and many other good songsters give good advice when saying ‘read books’. 👍

I was fortunate to catch Peter Case at my friend’s speakeasy (now defunct) Club Fred in Fresno, CA with Tom Russell (“Gallo del Cielo” - JEEZUS! 😳) and Dave Alvin backed by The Skeletons in support of “Tulare Dust”, Dave’s multi- “songwriter’s tribute to (the great) Merle Haggard”. Of course, Peter played “Space Monkey”. In my best Chris Farley, “It was AWESOME!” 😂 And Dave’s OWN version of “Long White Cadillac” with The Skeletons was pure VOODOO! Dwight’s cover clearly paled by comparison, imho. 🤘🤘🤘 🎩😎🤙

Love Mystery Train. Thought I knew a lot Elvis songs, but that book turned me onto Is It So Strange. That said, the artists know if the criticism is BS. Love reading about music almost as much as listening to it. Thank you, Otis.

How can you wrap your head around a guy like Jerry Lewis? As a comedian, actor or man. People despise him or they like him. Heck, the French love him. Came across as an arrogant jerk often enough and stomped on toes a lot. But then...I read that over his 50+ years of running the MDA Telethon, it raised over $2.6 billion (BILLION) dollars for kids camps, expensive adaptive equipment, serious neurological research. Whiskey Tango Hotel. All of those contradictions inside one man's head and heart. RIP Jerry and thank you. Great video Otis and Pete's a great hang too it seems.
