Saw John live many times. Twice with Bonnie Raitt. Once with Bonnie and Tom Waits. "Christmas in Prison", "Far from Me", "Mexican Home", "Dear Abby", "Come Back to us Barbara Lewis Hara Krishna Beauregard", "Common Sense", The Accident, Quit Hollering at Me, I Remember Everything, Big Old Goofy World, Some Humans ain't Human, and maybe (in my humble opinion) the saddest song he ever wrote "Donald and Lydia". The entire first album, Common Sense, Diamonds in the Rough, Sweet Revenge (really never recorded a "bad" song. He was generous in his praise of others and I was the fan who never met him, but he wrote the background of my life since I heard the first album self-titled John Prine. A friend and I played it (album) and by the 10th listening we were "singing along with the songs". That was in my twenties and still listening. His death took me by surprise. I recommend his book of lyrics and personal notes and background on some of his songs ""Beyond Words", I like all kinds of music (ironically not country), but Motown, singer songwriters, heavy metal, new wave, alternative and yes, some disco. John Prine is the best songwriter of all time because he wrote for the common everyday man. Joni Mitchell, Lennon/McCartney, so many great songwriters, but John Prine is in a class by himself. This is what he was - a class act. When my husband told me of his death, he brought me a box of Kleenex. He was the family member that I just listened. Hope his music doesn't die. Have introduced it to many people over the years and have to laugh when someone told me recently, he's the new Bob Dylan. Dylan too arrogant. It's a terrible disservice that he wasn't honored for years and years. Used to call the Nashville radio stations and got the reply always "who is John Prine?".

I am a huge fan of JP ( and will actually do a cover of one of his song on april 7: 3 years after he left us. ). we miss him. Thanks for sharing this video. As for the explanation of the songs, each one recieves his lyrics differently, the way one feels ( sorry for my poor english).

So Willy and Waylon are watching John play, Waylon asks Willy "so, what do ya think?" and Willy sez "I suppose we could break his arm" True Story That's high praise coming from those two.

"How Lucky"........"can One Man Get?" The Moral of this wonderful song?? The Past is the Past so you shouldn't let the bad events in your past life, rule your present life....and your future. "I don't think I remember, hey, how lucky can one man get?" Very, Very Wise words from one of the greatest lyricist who ever wrote a song. He was a gift......
