First heard John Prine on a friend's cassette player while in college late 70's. I listened to all kinds of music but never heard of this guy. Who is this?? Could not believe what I was listening to. Some kind of folk/country prophet or something. All these years later, he's still not on the radio-- not even Deeptracks, etc... Maybe it's a Twilight Zone kind of thing. Only for select ears that can really hear what he's saying.

Its because he remembers to keep his empathy alive through out it all. They are not just stories but he is relating or allowing us to relate, it blows my mind how many phrases I have heard him say that I have never heard before but I instantly understood them. Even if he is singing with some superiority its from the side of all vs the few. He had the foresight at least to see history's battles and being on the right side, instead of being angry and scared he was ready for change and took it on the chin.

I was living in Louisiana and fresh out of high school when John Prine, Randy Newman, Bonnie Rait and a few more folks put on an outdoor concert. I was hooked on all three immediately. John had music that was controversial at times. Randy Newman went on to write music for movies and TV shows after he stopped touring. His music was not as controversial as John's so he got more air time. I'm not sure how Bonnie Rait fit in with this group but she also went on to have and still does have a fantastic career. I walked across the highway one day in east Tennessee, years ago, where I could see the end of the rainbow. Once I got within about 4-6 feet away, it dissipated the closer I got to it. There is no end of the rainbow is what I learned.

I'm new to the genius of John Prine having only discovered him sadly after his passing. But in a way knowing now what a beautiful man he was hearing talk on stage and in interviews im kind of glad because had i been a fan for years i think i would be absolutely heartbroken.

I was introduced to the music of John Price when I was in my forties and how I so enjoyed his music. His songs always tell a story and if you listen closely they are stories of real life. You can't hear any new country/folk music like this anymore. RIP John Prine your fans still love your music.

When my first 3 kids, twin boys and a girl, were little, they would always ask me to sing "Paradise " ,whenever we were driving any reasonable journey, especially when we were going to my parents home in Northern Ireland. I have loved John Prine's music for many years and I'm just so sad that he's passed away. I still love "Paradise ", and I guess I always will. Gerry Farry.

Has there ever been a better debut album in any genre? I've been getting great enjoyment from this recording since 1972. I have a "Blow Up Your T V" sticker on the back bumper of my old Chey!/2 ton. Every once in a while someone gives me a thumbs up when they pass me, because they get it. When John Prine died I felt like I lost a good friend that I never met.

I'm so glad I got to see him perform at least one time. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in SF few years back. I just found out he passed. We lost a treasure. The world gained much through his songs and quirky humor.

"For I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve..." That's songwriting on a level I could never imagine! I met John Prine once, on the stairs of a little bar in Ireland. I looked at him and said "Oh! You're YOU!!!!" He didn't wait a beat before replying: "You're you too!" It's a moment I treasure: face to face with a hero, but that hero is as kind and funny and true as you hope them to be!

50 year admirer and listener to John Prine. I had the extraordinary pleasure of meeting him once, true man of the people. In "Illegal smile", "the judge's name was Hoffman". Hoffman was the name of the presiding judge in the Chicago Seven trial, LOL. John Prine is deeply missed.
