Absolutely! I never thought for a second it was improvised due to costume reasons it always made sense to me that a dwarf would get upset with an elf grabbing his beard

@@ryanfierro4897 Not only that but I remember him saying that the prosthetics gave him a really bad allergy and his face was constantly swollen and red so the beard coming off I imagine would also cause him a lot of pain.

Fun fact. All the scenes with the Balrog were not planned. The Balrog just showed up on set and actually tried to kill all the actors. Which he almost succeeded with Ian McKellen (Gandalf). That's why the actors' reactions, especially Elijah Wood's, are so authentic. Peter Jackson liked all these scenes so much that he used them all in the movie.

The Balrog wouldn’t have shown up had not Billy Boyd knocked over that whole bloody skeleton (including bucket) down the well. The script called for him to inquisitively drop a mere pebble. Peter Jackson was livid.

Fun Fact, John Rhys Davies was actually allergic to the cosmetics and makeup. It made his face swell up. Him shouting was probably to avoid being stuck with it for even longer.

The movie is well known enough that you can stop constantly introducing the characters… and it’s a 30 second clip, it starts to feel like you’re being repetitive to make it longer.

Improvisation on film set is not what people think it is It’s not going off script in a split second and the director saying „yep, we keep it in” It’s suggesting a change in the script and then rehearsing that

The whole scene at the stairs didn't exist in the script. The script just said "The Fellowship ran down the stairs." but when Peter Jackson saw Alan Lee's drawing of the stairs where he added a break of two, it gave him the idea of the Fellowship tried to get across while being ambushed by orc archers, so that scene was made into a pre-viz, where the line "Nobody tosses a dwarf!" (which, by the way, was filmed after Gimli begs Aragorn to toss him at Helm's Deep) was added.
