John Singer Sargent Lecture by Richard Ormond

For educational use only. First time I have ever heard Richard Ormond. I recorded the audio file on my phone for notes. Such short notice for lecture that most of my artist friends and students missed this amazing event so I wanted them to get to hear it. I added lots of images that I have in my files from years of loving Sargent!!! What a fabulous speaker Mr. Ormond is. I could not find any other videos with him on Internet and wanted to share this amazing lecture with my students!! You will be blown away!!! Not monetizing, no personal gain only a desire for others to hear and a video by the museum is on Vimeo as a download in addition, just hard to see the images on that version.

An astounding speaker, Richard Ormond is of the "Old School" and speaks English as it should be spoken; he enunciates each word only as an actor would: an ideal candidate for a lecture! And so knowledgeable---he throws light on Sargeant and puts his paintings 'into context'. The audiance was very fortunate to lisen to this master of oratory and erudition! Grazie mille!!!

Richard Ormond's lectures on Sargent are the best online. Brilliantly insightful, rich in first-hand knowledge of his subject, witty and completely engaging. There is no one else even, "in the ballpark."

Very good speaker . There seems to be a spontaneous element about Sargent’s work as it is boldly done and thought about with the preparations of drawings and having to fit the composition according to the picture he had imagined. He had the skill to do the painting and done it well.

There's a charcoal portrait in Longwood Gardens in PA. I have been admiring it for years.

If it helps at all at this late date, there are two charcoal portraits in the collection of the Boston Athenaeum, as well as two oil portraits, one glorious and one utterly boring.

Very interesting video, a huge screen showing everything and then pictures of something completely different over the original footage, imagine you watch "Titanic" and then pictures of smth different can be seen 3/4 of the screen. Absolute idiotic.
