ONE BIG ANSWER: GREED! Instead of a president, we now elect a Financial Leader... someone to decide how our tax dollars are to be wasted! Prices began to skyrocket in the late 70s and 1980s, bacause workers wanted paid more, investors wanted more return on the money and CEOs were suddenly being paid MILLIONS of dollars per year! .... Instead of putting the USA First in everything, our tax dollars began going overseas! Foreign Workers began pouring into the US and senring 95% of their earningd home, instead of spending it Here! That's why the US Dollar is now the world's main currency! .... GREED sent millions of good paying US Jobs to countries where workers are paid in pennies! I remember how sad I felt when I saw a photo of "The LAST U.S. Made Television", at the Zenith Electronics plant! The US now has few "true manufacturing" jobs that don't involve the harvesting of our Natural Resources! We now cut our trees and send the lumber to other countries to be made into furniture, which is sold back to us! HOW can it be cheaper to send lumber around the world, than to make furniture here? The same ideal applies to metals, glass and plastics! These and others ideals have changed our country and not for the better! ..... Immorality has been a mainstream issue for several decades! Remembering when you couldn't say "Damn" on TV? Now you can say nearly anything you want, EXCEPT for "God snd Jesus"! I often see movie scenes where those two words are bleeped or silenced! We WORRY about offending those whom hate us.... how stupid is that? .... Let's BUY U.S. and bring our jobs home! Let's worry more about us, instead of the poor people of Country X! Let's stop bleeding our economy by allowing Billions to be sent overseas every year! Let's stop the flood of illegals, pouring across our border and stop supporting those that are here already! Let's make the USA Number One on our list again!

@@jamesbaird8574 This was well after Stevie was established. It came out after the white Fleetwood Mac album and Rumours in the same year as Tusk (1979). Unless you are talking outside of Fleetwood Mac. Even then, Walter Egan's Magnet and Steel with Stevie was a hit prior to this song. It does predate her solo albums though.

Wow...listening to these great songs during the pandemic, always loved this tune! Stevie's vocals added so much on this. So many good memories. Used to play it down in California when it came out. A friend of mine's band did a cover of it as well and had added an extended jam in the middle. Decided to add it to our version too-Am-F for awhile (ha ha) , just nice and tasteful in the beginning and built it into a nice climax. The audiences always seemed to dig it and it didn't detract from the song.

He wrote "Daydream Believer" (no. 1 for Monkees), "Runnaway Train" (no. 1 for Roseanne Cash), and had 2 other top 40 hits himself. Also Billboard put his album "California Bloodlines" on one of their top 100 lists. He had (and still does) a loyal 'cult' following. I went to 23 of his concerts in the 70s cause I couldn't get enough of his guitar work (in concert he would do long complex guitar solos that never appeared on his albums). He was a total axemaster. When the lights go down in the California town People are in for the evening I jump into my car and I throw in my guitar My heart beat time with my breathin' Drivin' over Kanan, singin' to my soul There's people out there turnin' music into gold Well my buddy Jim Bass past he's a-workin' pumpin' gas And he makes two fifty for an hour He's got rhythm in his hands as he's tappin' on the cans Sings rock and roll in the shower Drivin' over Kanan, singin' to his soul There's people out there turnin' music into gold Ah the California girls are the greatest in the world Each one a song in the making Singin' right to me I can hear the melody Story is there for the takin' Drivin' over Kanan, singin' to my soul There's people out there turnin' music into gold (ooh) Drivin' over Kanan, singin' to my soul There's people out there turnin' music into gold When the lights go down in the California town People are in for the evening I jump into my car and I throw in my guitar My heart beat in time with my breathin' Drivin' over Kanan, singin' to my soul There's people out there turnin' music into gold Flyin' over Kanan, singin' to my soul People out there turnin' music into gold People out there turnin' music into gold People out there turnin' music into gold (ooh, yeah) People out there turnin' music into gold, into gold People out there turnin' music into gold, into gold People out there turnin' music into gold, into gold (yes they) People out there turnin' music into gold, into gold Rockin' on the radio People out there turnin' music into gold, into gold slippin' down the back road People out there turnin' music into gold, into gold (yes they do) People out there turnin' music into gold, into gold

This is by far the best display of Stevie pics I've seen ever. And I don't think any pics are repeated. Thanks man!

John Stewart wrote Daydream believer, which was a number one hit for the Monkees in 1967 and a number three hit for Anne Murray in 1979. He also wrote Runaway train, a number one county hit for Roseanne Cash in 1988.
