Prince was looking over at Tom for affirmation! Tom was in awe. I hope they’re jamming like this in heaven.
@jerseyjoe8236418 күн бұрын
My earlier comment has been scrubbed because I spoke the truth. Prince was awesome in this, but his attitude was so disrespectful when he "guitar dropped" and walked offstage as if saying..."I am better than all of you." He was so insecure that he couldn't be humble enough around other musicians who have clearly honored and respected him. What a loser...sad, sad, man.
@VVV-kk5yb17 күн бұрын
@@jerseyjoe82364Actually it was the opposite. In the rehearsal they kinda underestimated and shunned Prince. He left the rehearsal early. You can tell Prince is very quiet and is perceived as mysterious by most. Prince showed them what time it was on that stage. That's why he threw the guitar in the air. He wasn't even using his custom symbol guitar. It wasn't arrogance but excellence.
@hannaj403217 күн бұрын
@@jerseyjoe82364 - Olivia Harrison tried to have Prince removed from the tribute to George. The producer pushed back and made Tom Petty the peace keeper. Of course Prince was a bit uncomfortable which is why he kept looking at Tom for reassurance but he was not disrespectful. When Prince passed away Tom addressed the performance on his radio show and talked about how gracious and humble Prince was through the entire experience. He made the performance epic. Your comment has no merit and makes you seem bigoted.

@@meagainokay7673 I like your point. Its not like he just showed up a winged it. I like the fact that Prince was a diva but showed his respect for the Man? Or his music. That was a claa act on his part. In 1983 i saw a part of the ARMS concerts for Ronnie Lane. 1st set had watts. Cocker. Clapton and Beck. Never new about becks music. Him and clapton went back an forth with the lead. 2d set was page. Paul brown an a heavy metal set. Ok. Then 3rd set all came out did 4 yardbirds songs. Then went into cream classics. White room. Crossroads. Strange brew. Tales of brave ullysses. I feel free. Page was a bystander. Clapton and Beck were impressive with their back an forth lead playing. 40 years ago. I didnt even realize what a show it was.
@songshineoriginalmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@meagainokay7673 It is easy to go long with popular opinion here. I think Prince was a very good lead guitarist, not great like Hendrix who shaped a style some of which can be heard in Prince's solo. I am not sure if you play guitar or not, I do. I can tell you that it is hard to drop in like he did and perform well. All I ever wanted to be was a lead guitarist because it is possibly the best example of living in the moment and making it mean something. It is what jamming is all about and I appreciate his ability and willingness to do so on a big stage. He in many ways embodied live performance by "real musicians' as he put it no matter the outcome. The break has a few very good moments and mostly is fitting to the song, like starting around 5:06. It is not the best lead break ever however and I know if he were here today he would say the same thing.
@songshineoriginalmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@meagainokay7673 Appreciate the link. If pull offs and arpeggios that never end is your thing then I guess it is okay. There are really two distinct lead playing styles out there: Ones that show off a player's proficiency and others that are from the heart. I prefer the latter. Not to say his lead break is bad. Note that he plays the same licks over at times however. No matter the complication, this a very taboo thing to do on a lead break. But even Prince does the same thing in places. So a technically proficient solo that lacks heart on a song that demands it is my take. I am not terribly impressed with either and I think I can do just as good or better in a particular moment, not to sound egotistical.

There wasn't going to be another chance for a rehearsal with Prince so the director had a talk with him about what was going to happen and Prince basically told him not to worry about it, that he'll come in at the very end and to just let the other guy do whatever. This in no way any disrespect to either of those guys but they probably shared their goods with each other before the show.

@@markmalaney5542 They actually didn't! Danny asked Prince to do it, but he refused. Then last moment he got on the stage, which is why you can see everyone smiling

I love how George Harrison’s son smiled right before Prince’s solo, because he knew that Prince was about to cut up! I adore Prince and George. Both legends in their own right. ❤

Prince got on that solo and just absolutely shredded the entire building's faces off. Absolutely masterful.

So I heard that Prince didn’t go to rehearsal & Dani was nodding & smiling to let him know….this is your part! Then he saw why he needed no rehearsal!

I was wondering who that kid was! He was having the time of his LIFE! Watching his reaction to Prince SLAYING it was my favorite part!

One of my favourite performances of all time. So what I heard is he promised to make Dhani Harrison smile. I hope that’s true, but either way I always get the impression Prince didn’t take himself as seriously as the people around him did. RIP. This was amazing.
