I love seeing the complete minimalism of style in his game, it's like a machine--every motion has a purpose and he finds the shortest, simplest way to achieve it. You watch this and wonder how one second he's dribbling the ball and the next it's in a guys hands under the basket... I don't blame the defenders--I'm ball-watching too even though I know the pass is coming.

Also, observe how he always keeps his head straight up while dribbling so he sees everything. The sight is the key to choose to whom and when pass the ball.

Stock was quite better than Nash in his MVP year. Nash played in the "dark era" of NBA when Bosh, Howard, Boozer and other boozers became demanded star players. The density of good players was much higher in the 80s until the mid-90s. If a young Stockton would play in 2005 in the NBA then he had dominated the league.

I am Mexican-American and emulate this guys game on the neighborhood court. I even made a makeshift shirt and with a permanent marker wrote on the back STOCKTON 12. Young players don't know him and don't care about assists. I school them with many assists. I love seeing their frustration when I give up the ball for an easy assist and basket. I have won many games in the hood because of my assists. But they will never notice in the hood that assists still wins game too. I know that for the most part it was the fundamental assist that won those games. Assists are just one part of the fundamentals next to rebounds, defense, block outs, mid range shot and aggressive play. All lost now for the stupid 3pointer. Also, we need more Mexican-American players in the NBA .Many of us could play and assist just as good as Stockton, Nash, Paul but we get passed by for the white or black player with same skills. I have seen it happen to high school kids and middle school kids they just get bypassed with a bad perception that a black or white player play better. Just look at March Madness and see how many Mexican or Hispanic players you see. NONE. NBA. NONE. Just the facts. College Latino coaches and staff practically NONE. And no crap about Mexicans being too short because there are many 6',6'1, 6'2 and 6'3 Mexican-American players that play with all those fundamentals but get bypassed. Can we at least have an Asian American Jeremy Lin moment in the NBA? The Sage

Some just didn't get it. What makes Stockton unique isn't his ability to pass off the drible or stuff like that, isn't HOW, but WHERE. Nobody has or ever had such ability to set up plays, time after time, from halfcourt. Everything looks simple, easy, even sloppy sometimes, due to Stockton's ability to put the ball exactly where it should be. Those who claim X or Y today do the same didn't see Stockton at his best at all, or didn't understand the core of his game. That's why Gary Payton said he was the hardest player to defend, Stockton was a nightmare for any PG to play against.

I have about 80 games of Utah Jazz, 20 of them against Chicago (all Finals) and MJ never guarded John unless one or another specific play. He guarded Russ or Jeff. Harper and Kerr guarded John (and in old days Paxson/B.J was the one guarding John) so your statement is incorrect. Anyway, isiah was a better player, was agressive when had to be. Isiah didnt score 10 points on a Finals game 6 like John did when it matter the most. Have you ever seen Isiah droping 44 against John?

Mr. Entringer he was always that way scoring ten out of ten shots, 8 for 10 with 15 assists, thats how he always played. Just cause u score more points doesn't even mean u had a good night. You can be like lebron and score 40 but have a terrible percentage cause your taking way to many shots. Stockton was extremely accurate and had he taken more shots he might have scored more than jordan in his career. But real ball players distribute the ball not take terrible shots and hope they go in. I saw him at the tail end of his career along with Malone. All I recall was Malone being a beast in posting up. I was too busy with life to watch BB for the prior 20 years. Now I'm seeing the skill and effort by a non-big man that's incomparable. Rodman had effort to make him great as a defender and rebounder and surprisingly even without making many points proved so useful. Stockman brings something else to the table and helps the team even more.

Little known fact. When Donyell Marshall was traded the Jazz, he was met at the airport by Stock. First thing out of John's mouth? "Where do you want the ball?" It's easy to forget how damn good he was, but look up his career stats. His Assist records are unbreakable.

What bugs me sometimes is when some people say Stockton has his records due to longevity of his career. He passed the number two on the list pretty early and fast in his career. The longevity only contributed to how far ahead he ended up being. When he passed Magic Johnson, his assists per game was higher than Magic's. Plus, longevity of career is a positive, impressive thing, not a negative.

Had they acquired a center like Rony Seikaly I think they may have been able to win the Bulls who were without a strong center themselves.

It's both. Malone would have been great anywhere, he was deadly with low post moves and an automatic 18 footer. And a defensive beast and rebounder. Stockton only threw maybe 1/3 of his assists to Malone (which is still a ton), but Stockton made scrubs like Ostertag, Keefe, Foster, etc help him and Malone to the finals. So, I don't think Stockton made Malone, just maximized.

Stockton would've excelled in the D'Antonio and Gentry system. Nash's assists consisted of setting up 15-24 foot jumpers, where as most of Stockton's assists were guys in the paint.
