Had Sykes done the "WS '87" tour,instead of just the album,John Sykes would've blown TF up IMO. Just yesterday I saw a comment giving Viv Campbell credit for the guitar parts on WS 87,despite not playing one note. Coverdale fired the entire band prior to that tour. From what I've heard there was a bit of a power struggle brewing between him and Sykes,who can write,arrange,perform,play incredible guitar and sing with the best of them! So it makes sense he'd get sent packing. If you dig JS,but have never listened to the debut Blue Murder album I highly recommend giving it a listen. The entire album is incredible!

I still believe to this day it was in the name. They should of picked something else. i remember as a kid and still wonder to this day, what the hell is a blue murder? Cop who kills? With the name, I dont think they were able to be marketed to the masses as they could of been with a better name. I found my copy of it when it came out in the death/hardcore metal section of the record store, they were clueless where to put it, and I did not blame them, lol.

@winstonsyme5899 Rainbow 3 lps. Jeff Beck, I think 2. Don't hold my feet to the fire on Jeff Beck. The others he was just sitting in. Cozy had his own hits in Great Britain. Before he even joined Rainbow. You can ask the British viewers about that. They know better than I do. I'm from America. He's seriously one of the best drummers in the world. Just listen to kill the King. Stargazer a light in the black. His best work was definitely with Rainbow. In Rainbow, he was actually a band member, and he did get writing credits on a few of the songs. Strangely enough, he was very close to Ritchie Blackmore. They had practical jokes in common, and they were actually close . Cozy, could have stayed in Rainbow forever. But he didn't want to do top 40 songs. He hated since you've been gone their biggest hit. Then he goes and plays with Brian May, the same song the reason he left Rainbow. He should have stayed with rainbow. I mean, you could listen to his work with ELP. He shows you how he can really stretch out with that band. Before you get crazy, he replaced Palmer. He was a very sought-after drummer and one of the best heavy rock drummers in the world.

I met John in a pub (The Wheatsheaf) in Vauxhall,London, with John Sloman who had just left Uriah Heap. I saw the two of them at the Marquee club with the short lived "Badlands". Little did I know then how great John was. I loved Blue Murder.

True story from when he joined the snake = the tigers pan tang fan club secretary was a friend at the time - John phoned to say (paraphasing) “David’s being horrible” that was around ‘85 - anyway Sykes was the full package - would like to say is but the last time I say him interviewed he looked burnt out - shame and now to dig out his solo album for a spin.

I remember buying the Blue Murder cassette when it came out in 1989 and I played the crap out if it in my car , later that year I heard that they were going to be playing the Metro on Clark St in Chicago and I was so excited that when I went to purchase the tickets that day of the show the girl behind the window told me the show was cancelled.. I was like bummed out. Anyway Blue Murder was one hell of a band..

Hey Carmine Hows it going Brother! Do You remember back in the day You put on a Drum Clinic at Scott's Drum Center in Lafayette, La. I won a Gold Plated Drum Key I won and You gave it to me. It was a Super Exciting Time Hanging Out. I also caught Your Signature DrumStick in 1989 at the CajunDome BlueMurder w/ BonJovi. 100%. The Whitesnake rebuke and lack of support by the record label for Blue Murder took their toll. He was my biggest influence as a guitar hobbyist (I can't say I'm a guitar player) and his playing literally saved my life as a pre-teen and teenager battling against domestic violence, physical violence and sexual abuse. One day I'd like to shake his hand and say "thank you Sir".

John Sykes did try to get the record co to replace David Coverdale. He probably thought Whitesnake could be his band. I liked Blue Murder's debut album, but John Sykes isn't David Coverdale, even though he thought he was.

Coverdale was a long established legend and it was HIS band that he started 10 years prior. Sykes became a legend but you don't step on the existing legends toes and try to steal their band when you have only participates in 1 album before that and are a hired gun. If they had jointly started Whitesnake together 10 years earlier, John have might have had a leg to stand on. I also highly doubt it was coverdale's fault that the Blue Murder album did not do as well as it should have. Record companies are in business solely to make money and I highly doubt that they're going to turn that down for somebody's personal request...regardless of who they are. The reason the second album didn't make it was because it was not nearly as good as the first in fact I'll argue that it wasn't good at all

Blue murder was a killer album. I wore that shit out. But he was right. Grunge came in shortly after. I never got it. The two cassettes I played all the time in the mid to late 80s into the early 90s was blue murder and Faith Hope love by Kings X. I was hoping that rock ‘n’ roll would feed off of those two albums but neither one of them got much Radio play and I just never got it. It wasn’t until later I realized corporate radio decided what got played and they continue to play the same old worn out shit they had always played plus this new grunge thing that I just never connected with. Blue murder and I will say Kings X as well are musicians bands. Too good for Radio and above most peoples heads. Might sound elitist, but I truly feel that way.

Not counting his very brief stint as a touring drummer for Ozzy's band Carmine was a member of only one even remotely "major" act - and that was the one-hit wonder (cover) band Vanilla Fudge. His brother Vinny was in both Dio AND Sabbath. But according to Carmine he turned down opportunities to be in multiple platinum-selling groups. 😀

Count me as a guy who was blown away by Jake's playing and writing on the two Ozzy records... and then was MASSIVELY disappointed the first time I heard that Badlands debut. But I guess Jake was following his heart towards blues rock and away from metal. And Ray was a poor man's Coverdale - and I never even liked Coverdale. But to each their own. @@alexkorakov4722 sorry, I guess I misunderstood your comment, I was lucky enough to see cozy a few times back in the 70s and early 80s with rainbow when Dio was on board, he’s one of my favorite drummer of all time, I loved to watching him, the guy was amazing, I once went to see Aerosmith at a casino in New Jersey and Joey Kramer was sick, cozy filled in, that was awesome too
