Sound's like a winner. I allways had repect for Sykes as a musician.. I was watching a Blue Murder show and was amazed on how he handled singing, playing guitar, and doing it so FLAWLESSLY. Not to may people can multitask that good

lukemanify He's probably one of the few who can do it to that level. I mean there are better guitarists, and better vocalists. Like Malmsteen for instance. But Yngwie doesn't sing. And vocalists usually don't play, and if they do it's an easy part. If you watched the live show, you'll see how he handles BOTH tasks at a top notch level. Extremely talented musician.

+rbagel55 Great point. However, I don't think Malmsteen is a better guitar player than Sykes at all. Sykes is much more versatile and way different than Malmsteen. But sure thing, Sykes is a master in managing both tasks at the highest level. Cheers man.

Cesar Loyola Malmteeen is very technical, but his music is kinda redundant. A lot of good player out there, I find out about them all the time. Ever heard of Andy Timmons from Dallas TX He is very verstile, check out his live stuff

Awesome news guys!! John has released yesterday an official interview and the new album will be out at the end of this year !! He said that he has been discouraged because of the recent loss of his manager and couldn't find a new proper management for months... now things are ok and the record called "Sy-ops" it's a real thing ready to be released! The album is to be released early in 2019 on Golden Robot records & has been retitled 'A Brand New Day'. Full versions of 'Gates of Hell' & 'Out Alive' are already on KZbin. 'Believe in Yourself' sounds like a signature killer riff from Sykes. Can't wait...

Alan Lloyd - I know that John’s manager passed away a few (possibly more) years ago and it really derailed John’s plans. I also know that he signed to Golden Robot Records a couple years ago, but recently cut ties with the fledgling label. He has his reasons for not putting the record out. The one criticism I can offer is that, after nearly two decades without new songs, why are there covers on SyOps? I want original John Sykes songs and have zero need to hear him cover Bob Marley, FFS. I don’t know what he’s thinking with the covers.

Cornell walked into the studio alone with an acoustic guitar. If Tony is with you, magic could happen. See Dave Grohl and Nate Mendelsson doing Hero acoustic on late nite. Valley of the Kings could be modified and be a big hit. When I first saw it, I thought, I know this guy, but I couldn't place it because you were singing. Hey, that's Carmine !!! I know the unmistakable sound of that bass action too. Took me 30 years to find you again. Better marketing this time will work wonders and the music would carry you to the promised land. It is never too late to become what you thought you could have been.

This album will just smoke. Sykes just blows most players away. Good riffs, good leads and amazing solos. Not a big fan of the reggae cut. Every other track is great. Sykes also is a really good vocalist. Too bad that Whitesnake '87 lineup never toured with Dunbar on drums and so forth. That would of been killer. Sykes should tour. I would go see that in a second!

Did I listen to a different sampler than everyone else who commented here?! WTF. With all due respect to Mr. Sykes, who I personally feel is just about the coolest mutherfker out there, this is NOT his best work. It kind of reminds me of stuff James Hetfield put out when he got sober.... "my lifestyle determines my deathstyle" ugh. The reggae? This isn't growth or musical maturity, this is "Does anyone else smell burnt toast?" kind of shit. (stroke). I hope this album never comes out except maybe the ballad about half way through this sampler. Burn the rest. His incredible playing and voice are getting sucker punched by whatever is going on internally with Mr Sykes. I don't want his legacy to be tarnished by this less than stellar work. RESPECTFULLY.

My 2 cents: Mr Sykes, I think you would benefit greatly from an "acoustic" album based around Jelly Roll, a few of your other choice tunes, and some new songs as well. Kip Winger did something like this with his InCognito album. You could emerge from your own Chrysalis with a new look and sound. With the proper marketing you would be some sort of white dragon. Take this idea, apply your own creativity to IT, make it your own and you should be good to go. People love you already and there are many more who need to be touched.
