I've posted a lot over the last couple of days, but was good to see and hear the elements of the Crying... solo that made it on to the record when they recorded it for the 87 album... those runs are just other worldly - takes me back to '87...

Growing up most of my top players were Germans or Scandinavians. There was one exception: John Sykes, he was and will forever be a titan of the instrument. He is a rare player who had no weaknesses in his game: touch, tone, technique, taste…it was all there. This is a great tribute to a legendary talent.

I wasn't sure what audio would be played when I selected this, bracing myself for some annoying voice or something, then Out Of Love from Blue Murder debut, and I thought, yes, this fits so well... well done to whoever organised this...

Legend. His music, especially on WS87 and Blue Murder seemed to me more magical than possibly even he realised. Reading other comments, they chime with mine - sheer sorcery - with dazzling imagery that left me dumbstruck... similar to Malmsteen's Odyssey - so captivating, and life affirming... what a privilege it's been to have had John's music in my life... Thank you John.

Back in 87' I was in college. I can remember sitting in my car listening to the radio before class. The radio DJ says "new one from Whitesnake, check this out...." It was "Still of the Night" and that was the very first time I heard it. I was just stunned. Completely speechless. So over the top. That entire record was a masterpiece. I knew who John was but I was just like totally blind sided by how great that record was. John was just a master guitar player and highly underrated. Peace brother.

I recommend checking out Thin Lizzy's "Live/Life" album, culled from their '83 farewell shows. The mix is legendarily poor, but it is still a great example of John's fiery playing and tone - plus one of the most unique, identifiable vibratos of all time!
