John Thain starts at 8:26 ; the Movies Margin Call (2011) & The Big Short (2015) piqued my curiosity about this guy; I wanted to see what he would say for himself.

Big short's John Tuld is a combination of this guy(John Thain) and Leeman brother Richard Fuld. Jeremy Siegel is the Author of the book( Stocks for the Long Run) which is the book in Robert Scheiffer Lectures carculum.

John Thain should have stated a cause of the crash was because of excessive profits from Mortgage Backed Securities but he didn't want to point the finger at the former Merrill Lynch CEO that he proceeded.

Say what you will, the man got $29 a share for Merrill Lynch shareholders. That's legendary.

What do you mean, "the man got"? It doesn't take a sorcerer. Ken Lewis didn't know what day it was. Thain got an excellent deal for Merrill Lynch shareholders, so it's reasonable that he should be well compensated for it. But he didn't found anything. He didn't build anything. He was there for less than two years.

He has his dad's size (JT), but he looks just like his mom. I lived next door to his mom and dad in Antioch. They just moved them into a home as they are both 95. Really nice folks, going to miss them.

he asked for 40 million in bonus in 2008 when Merrill Lynch lost around $20 billion and he has the gall to talk about bonus

Back in 2008, when the entire banking system was teetering on the brink, the only question this piece of garbage asked was whether the TARP money would affect his bonus.

Actually in addition to successfully negotiating $40 million in compensation with Bank of America as a part of the deal to sell Merrill; he also lobbied the compensation committee at Merrill for $10 million in bonus for successfully selling Merrill to Bank of America to the benefit of Merrill’s shareholders. The committee disdainfully turned him down.

It really annoys me that executives blame mark to market for the downturns. Never complained during bull markets

The fed policy of too much money for too long at too cheap a cost sowed the seeds he says...wonder what the last 7 some years of the same policy will bring forth...

What boggles my mind is that this man, who undoubtedly played a role in the events leading up to the catastrophic recession and financial debacle that nearly jeopardized economies the world over, would blame primarily the government as opposed to at least taking some accountability for what happened. This man recounts in unequivocal terms what fueled the us economic debacle and yet he wants people to believe that only after the recession was he made aware of the predatory financial schemes.
