Christopher George steals this scene not only with his delivery of lines but the way his eyes dart around with the calm, focused ease of a seasoned gunfighter. He's a morally 'gray' character with a clear set of principles stating "It shouldn't have taken four of you." He also shows Cole great respect and also made Charlie stand and take his punishment.

It's not really a remake. Similar, but different. Both had sheriffs, but Wayne was the sherrif in the first, with a drunken friend/deputy. Wayne was a gunfighter in the 2nd, helping a drunken sheriff that's not quite a friend. Both had different plots and sub-plots. Ricky Nelson in Rio was the heartthrob gunfighter, whereas James Caan was the heartthrob who couldn't hit the side of a barn. "El Dorado is the second of three films directed by Hawks about a sheriff defending his office against belligerent outlaw elements, coming after Rio Bravo (1959) and before Rio Lobo (1970), both also starring Wayne in similar roles."

Always liked El Dorado better than Rio Bravo, even though I really enjoyed Dean Martin in Westerns.

Rio Bravo was clearly a better film than El Dorado, although the latter was a fine film. But Rio Bravo was a great film, truly one of Wayne’s best. Plus Dino, Walter Brennan, Ricky Nelson, and Angie Dickinson were all outstanding.

Yeah, Dean Martin was a better actor than we might think. I thought he did a good job in The Sons of Katie Elder and Rio Bravo.

Marion was real tough…as long as he didn’t have to face Germans or Japanese. When his nation needed him, he turned tail.

Could you show your ignorance anymore? "Marion Robert Morrison used the name John Wayne professionally as an American actor. Born in 1907, he was 34 years old, married, and had several children in 1941." He had a wife and children. He made patriotic movies during WW2.

I bet your hate filled personality extends to a lot more than John Wayne. It's even worse for you being ignorant and easily manipulated by gossip instead of facts.

False John Wayne was registered for the selective service, and declared 4E, due to age, marital status, number of dependent children, and a previous injury. Jown Wayne wrote to the Secretary of the Navy, requesting induction into the Navy, and assignment to combat film crews in the Pacific. He asked director John Ford to use his influence to get him into the Navy. John Ford used his friendship with the Secretary of the Navy to *prevent* John Wayne from being inducted. In 1943 the U.S. government declared John Wayne's work in movies to be an invaluable boost to the war effort, and forbid any branch of the service to induct him. In 1944, the Office Of Strategic Services offered John Wayne a position, however, the letter bearing the offer was delivered to his ex wife, and never forwarded. So, no, he did not avoid the draft. He was never drafted. He actually asked to serve.

General Douglas McArthur told Wayne that what he was doing in Hollywood was far greater for the war effort than anything he could be doing in uniform. Thats a pretty damn good endorsement. But speaking of cowards, when and where did you serve billy? I'll bet never and nowhere. It galls me how people who never served like to call out others who didn't serve.
