What Tom Cruise does is different. It's more about motor stunts, and I can say for a fact that the John Wick series has revived the gun and martial arts fighting more than any of the mission impossible movies have. The latter has given us a more movie experience in terms of spy espionage realism with all the efforts, but they are different beasts, and both deserve their own respect.

John: "Those who cling to death live." Caine: "Those who cling to life die." John has to be presumed to be a dead man if he can ever move on quietly with his life, otherwise he will never stop being hunted. They have a prime chance if they do a 5th movie (which has been suggested) to bring it down to the scale of the 1st film, and make it a bit more intimate, which would be a nice cap to the franchise. But if it ended here, it is one helluva swan song.

But circumstantially, a 5th movie is clearly not off the table. But that is as long as it happens within a few brief years; this movie alone took the hugest toll on Keanu, so if another happens it would have to be sooner than later.

I have never been as physically exhausted in a movie theater as I was for John Wick Chapter 4! During the entire 3rd act we go from one of the most intense car chase / car fighting scene, to one of the best shot action sequences I have ever seen during the abandoned building fight scene. I felt my fingers go into the same crab claw shape when I play video games on pure reflex when it started to look like so many LITERALLY over the top games I grew up on! THEN we get the insane stair fight, which every single step John fell down I practically felt just watching. Then we finally get to the duel and thank god It was long enough in the end that we saw the look on the Marquis’s face when he realized he fucked up!🤣🤣🤣 As for the ending, I think he survived because the perfect retirement is where everyone thinks you’re dead.

It's actually crazy to see how many ppl didn't watch the post credits scene. Even in the theatres I watched it out of pure habit of reflecting on a movie during the credits scene and only leave after it. The entire theatre was empty and the cleaners were already asking me why I didn't leave yet. What a pleasant surprise I had, along with a handful who stayed.

There was a plan to make chapters 4 and 5 back to back, but they decided to end it with this one (covid helped them to decide this tbf). Studio wants to continue of course, but Reeves and the director don't really want to. Atm there are only plans for Ballerina, that Continental show and Donnie Yen wants a Caine movie and Halle Berry her movie. But no chapter 5 on the horizon (also Reeves is almost 60... let him rest).

Besides the amazing action and a stacked cast (which every cast member did their part), I really REALLY dig the cinematography in this one. The lighting, shot choices, set design, ect. Huge props to the team behind those. An all around great action film. Not only did I enjoy the action, but I enjoyed the characters and character interactions as well.

As much as I love each of these movies, I agree. It's rare for a series to get to the 4th movie and all of them are good and this one is a nice conclusion to the story. I'd rather they end on a good note instead of dragging it out and making the action bigger (but as a consequence more absurd) like they have for the fast & furious series.

I like to think to think about the ending from this perspective: John was unable to die because of his commitment and determination to finally be free from the table. When he was set free, he was finally at peace and embraced death since he had nothing else to fight for as a free man. All this time we kept wondering “how the hell can this guy just not die?” It’s because he didn’t want to die as the Baba Yaga, but as a man, a free man.

at 9:35 you asked about how many of the stuntmen were redressed. One of my buddies was a stuntman in this (the mercenary testing the dragon's breath shotgun round) and he said he was redressed 12 or 13 times, and that 8 of his deaths were included in the film. He said another few didn't make the cut. I assume a lot of the stunt folks were redressed double digit times as well.

I think when Donnie Yen's character Caine says "I'll be waiting for you" to Akira ties back to the end credit scene. Caine knew she was going to come for him but it was just a matter of when. I don't think he dies just because of that one piece of dialog from Caine. Also when John, The King, and Winston were talking about what they wanted on their gravestones King say's "I had mine made years ago" which it says Long Live The King. Meaning King already has "died" and put his past self to rest, I wouldn't be surprised if they use this same logic for John it makes a lot of sense when you watch that specific part (which starts at 1:53:27 for anyone who wants to watch it back)

I also think that Caine is alive because if you pay attention through most of that scene he has a smile on his face but when the girl is approaching him his smile disappears as if he is sensing it and I really think with him being blind and therefore his hearing sense being really good he would be hearing the sound of that knife, smart move by the girl would've been using one that blade comes out manually and from the side

Post Cred Scene has a number of options as to WHY it was made with the 1st-being that Caine was friends with both Wick & Koji. At the End of the Duel between Wick-&-Caine, Wick tells Caine that "He owes him one", to which, Caine agrees. IF They make Chapter 5 then I believe We will find out that Wick, whether he is alive or dead, tasked Caine with helping Koji's-daughter Akira, get out. Because remember Koji's Osaka-branch was deconsecrated where We saw that when this happened to the New York-branch Winston could be killed ALONG WITH Charon. Which means the same goes for Koji-&-His Daughter Akira, which Akira alluded to when she argues with Her Father about keeping Wick around & what happened to the New York-branch. Akira should have a price on her head & We may see that the reason why she is still alive is because Winston arranged to have Nobody keep track of her & kill anyone who tries to kill her, for a fee plus 401k, of course. Once Akira finally makes her move to kill Caine, Nobody's contract may or may not end, because Winston will already know about the Fact that Caine owes/owed, Wick, a favor. And that Wick would want or wanted Caine to get Akira her freedom. Again, Nobody may or may not exit the movie at this point because of whatever arrangements were made for his tracking-services & the rest would be on Caine to complete the Favor to Wick, as well as the Fact that Koji was actually Caine's "brother", as well. I don't think the flowers in the post-cred scene were for Caine's daughter, but are actually for Akira, whom he knows has been lurking around His Daughter. Because Akira knows he's bound to show up there I don't believe that Caine is careless enough not to know that Akira would either figure out or know about his situation with his daughter & not try to ambush him when he goes to finally "see her". Chapter 5 will center around Caine helping Akira get out from under the Table, where I believe We will also see that Caine's-daughter isn't as harmless as she appeared to be in Chapter 4 either. Chapter 5 should end with Caine & His Daughter helping Akira and it may or may not reveal whether Wick is actually alive or not, because Caine & His Daughter may end up bringing Akira to Wick! Where she will live out the rest of her life in safety-&-obscurity somewhere around Wick. And that should end the entire John Wick Franchise with him becoming a surrogate-father to Akira to make up for what happened to her father who died sheltering Him....

the scene with the Dragon Breath Shotgun birdview is easily the best part of the movie! The also used the same soundtrack from the first John Wick or slightly updated version. second best is the stair fight with the epic song choice Genesis from Justice. and the Ar de Triumph with Hate or Glory music 3 of my favorite music tracks John Wick gets better an better for my taste.

About him not getting fractures after falling down multiple stories , here's how I like to think about it - John wick's suit treads the line between real and fiction . As long as he is wearing that BULLET PROOF suit, he's secure from major trauma. That suit gives him protection from falling to the ground and hitting all those cars. It's a stretch but clearly the idea of suit in itself , being what it is, makes it easy for me to take the leap. John Wick is all the realism plus some bonus fiction here and there for the fun of it. I Love it.

i was kinda scatching my head about that last stairway fight when I watched this movie in the theaters. seemed like such an odd choice to kick him down and start all over again. such a drag. afterwards I started to think about it and I realized despite how ridiculous it was, that whole sequence served as a metaphor for John Wicks life. He is stuck serving the table and is tasked to kill. but meets the love of his life and when looking for a way out. to free himself from the table to marry his wife he had to do an impossible task. like john climbing all those stairs. and he did. He was "free' and he made it to the top where the church is (the church representing marage and death) but when john did make it to the top and was free... his wife died and he was kicked all the way back down to the bottom, serving the high table again. and now throughout these for movies john has to overcome the impossible again. climb back up that staircase again and make it to the the top where the church is for his freedom this time not in marriage but in death. and despite all the odds, he does it. once I've made this realization I kinda patted myself on the back for it. because a few days later after the movie came out, the director Chad Stahelski tweeted saying the staircase scene was a metaphor for his life. and i swear to god i knew it was the whole time.

I think that John Wick sustained all of his injuries by sheer force of will to see this through to the end. Not invulnerable, as you all stated, but force of will kept him going. After it was done, he succumbed to all of his injuries because the deed was done. Kinda like how it was done in The Crow, only without the supernatural aspect.

At the end scene when they are in the cemetery you see Dog look up suddenly like something or someone alerts him to his presence. I feel the gun shot wounds that he occured wouldnt of fatally wounded him. I believe the tomb stone wa as a meteor for the loving husband John is gone but the Baba Yaga lives on.

As much as I love Keanu Reeves to be back he doesn't need to reprise the role, just leave him there where he is now. He is now 58 and needs to move on with other projects. They have still a lot of material to make after Wick, like Cassian still alive, so are the Shinobi Assassins, not to mention the after credits. Besides, we gonna have The Continental TV show as well as the Ballerina spin-off that takes place between John Wick 3 and 4, so we get to see him again in a cameo just before his death.

It does kinda suck that you two went into this already with the idea of there being a Chapter 5 so the ending just felt less impactful. To me, not yet hearing about a possible Chapter 5, it made perfect sense. It finally caught up to John, and he's found his peace. Of course I knew they could easily say he wasn't gone, and make a 5th, but this was it, a finality to his character.

The ending definitely is a little ambiguous about John's fate, which makes me wonder if it was done so on purpose for the possibility of a 5th film. Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski seem to believe that John is dead, but the director has said some things that don't feel or sound so final. For one, Stahelski has said that "he and Keanu are going to give John Wick a rest" and has stated that he's open for a sequel. I'm curious as to Keanu's opinion about the possibility of returning. The ending seems to lean towards John being dead, which I am mixed on because it feels a little rushed, despite feeling like a very likely outcome. There is a possibility that Caine, Winston, and maybe even the Bowery King played a part in faking John's death so that he may leave to live a peaceful life. Or maybe John managed to do so without anyone knowing, although possibly some suspecting. Personally, I think there will be a 5th film that will see the return of John to possibly take down the High Table. While it has been said that doing so is impossible, John is known for doing the impossible. In order to take out the High Table, everyone involved would need to be taken out on a large scale on the same day.

1:13 I love this way of deciding how to do the duel. 9:40 Keanu has a list cause he made them all shirts commemorating all their deaths. 10:21 the stunt team chose these stairs to film this on. The director showed them steps on the opposite side of the building and they wanted to see what else was around and when they saw these they were basically drooling over the many things they could do with these stairs. 16:42 I’m wondering if he’s really dead or if they planned to “kill” John Wick so he can live a free life. I like how Winston always looked at John like he was his son. Next you should check out the tv series on Peacock called “The Continental” which is set in the 70s. I would love to see them make a John Wick prequel that shows what John had to do to live with Helen.

Ok, since you wanted a clue then let me give it you. You remember just before the duel started both of them said a banger line which goes like "Those who cling to death LIVE and those you cling to life DIE". Then we never saw even one of them actually dying. So it symbolizes that Caine who wanted to live to meet his daughter someday somehow actually died and John who had no reason or motivation to live any longer a man who had already accepted his death somehow lived. I know that people will say that it is an open ending and the viewers can believe what they want to believe, like some can believe that he actually died and now rests next to his wife since he accomplished what he wanted that is his freedom and die as a loving husband and not an cold blooded assasin however some can believe that he is the Baba Yaga who we have seen taking worse pounding than that so it is impossible that he died by this and is just acting dead to actually live a normal life a life that his wife wanted him to live. It is quite poetic if you ask me. So now you know, that is if you ever read this comment.

In case none others have answered the cutting of the bullets, it turns them into a poor mans hollow point round. Essentially it makes the bullet split open like a flower or popcorn kernel when it enters the body, prohibiting the bullet from exiting the body. This is much more deadly as a bullet that stays in the body is harder to treat. Normally it is considered a war crime to use due to being needlessly cruel, but police are known to use them extensively as the guarantee of bullets staying in their targets means anyone behind the target is safer, preventing collateral damage, at the expense of making the police shooting victim much less likely to survive. TL;DR: cutting the bullet like that means any hits on your target is much more deadly than normal.

Yes Fast and Furious as a whole has gotten way out there, but who knows where the John Wick franchise will go if they get up to Chapter 10 as well. The stairs sequence was one of the scenes that broke my immersion in the action. Even in a movie that's over-the-top by design, it screamed at me, "Watch me roll all the way back down all of these stairs." The other scene was the choice to have people, "just keep dancing no matter what!" during the club sequence. I found myself watching the people "blatantly not noticing" the fights happening. I didn't need a panic to start, but had people around the action started getting away from the immediate area, it wouldn't have taken me out of the moment.

Also, they were more "run and gun," moving around enough to never be in the same group of people for very long. Really, I could be wrong about the other movies, but JW4's club sequence took me out of the action. I was watching it. I was enjoying choreography. I was just no longer "in" it.

Im never sure how the location shooting was done on this film. There are so many locations in Paris where they definitely couldn't have filmed: arc de triumph would be a fake backdrop but the stairs later are real
