@@motorcityman401 It's a great power pop tune. Does it make them a Great Band, like the Stones? No. But how about if we appeciate greatness when we see it.

@@wsidejack1 The Records probably recorded 20 songs at this level during their short career. Crashes is chock full of greatness, plus the demos for songs that didn't make Crashes. Up All Night on Shades in Bed (this album) is a much better song IMO.

This venue is a benefit concert for the schools during the day. There were Only a few hundred people there at the point of this video. Hard to get people out to support a benefit concert. I appreciate the support of John Wicks and The Records and the amazing show they put on in the name of helping students out. It's a true honor to post this video for The Records.

Great performance. So sad to see them playing this masterpiece in a small-time show with an audience made of few people taking no heed of them. They don't deserve that. Another unfairly underrated band...

The people in attendance are TOO FUCKING STUPID to realize the GEM they have playing on that stage! I'd have been a one-woman mosh pit if I'd been there! This band was a very pleasant part of my childhood!

Mike Pop Rock // True, the people in the audience seem disinterested (their loss), but one of the best things about being a musician is that you enjoy performing your craft whenever you get the opportunity, whether it's in front of a crowd, for one person, or just practicing with the rest of the band. After performing this song countless times over the years since it became a big hit for The Records, John Wicks (only original remaining member at the time of this performance) looks and sounds great here, as do the rest of his band mates. I remember covering this song back in high school with my own garage band when it first dropped, and we always had a blast jamming out to it. Great memories! RIP John Wicks...😄👍🇺🇸

@@jml-rj5re That whole record is fantastic. Every song is pure power pop candy, full of great riffs. Should have been way bigger than it was, and seems like these guys shoulda/coulda had a bigger career well into the '80s and beyond. I've always thought the vocals also are some of the best. That nasally bratty English sound/style, like the Gallagher boys, but minus the actual snide.
@jml-rj5re2 жыл бұрын
@@johnpelletier7641 The funny thing was that the old Stereo Review magazine identified Crashes as Record of the Month. Virgin simply didn't support the album. The Records toured America, (chronicled by the Evanston live album), but it didn't generate the following needed and Jude Cole left the group. Chris Whelan was an incredibly poor fit as lead vocalist on Music on Both Sides (there are some good songs ruined by Whelan and the production), which would have been better received with a 2nd lead singer (in addition to John Wicks) who blended with their power pop harmonies.

I saw this magnificent band support the Jam at Finsbury Park Rainbow back in 1979 and they blue me away. I caught them a week later when they headlined at the Marquee (the original in Wardour Street) and they were even better. The only original 'Record' on display here is John Wickes who co-wrote most of the songs (including Starry Eyes) with WIll Birch. In my eyes they were one of the most influential bands of the era and deserved more success.

The Records had a good following here in Sweden and Europe back then, but never made it really big in the US, from what I hear. I can't understand why.. But perhaps Powerpop wasn't the "thing" over there at the time. But great band that deserved better.
