I think the accused were guilty, but i seriously dont think Lincoln would have allowed this type of trial had he survived and could issue an executive order to allow their constitutional rights in an actual Federal court since the murders happened in DC. Maybe i am wrong, but i like to think so. Great job showing this place.

This was great content. I am a "history buff" but I had no idea this historical location was preserved and available to the public. Definitely will keep it in mind for my next trip to DC. The movie "The Conspiritor" was so moving and really made me think about the post assassination chaos our nation experienced. Also I was disturbed by how much I hated Kevin Klein in that film (yet I guess Edwin Stanton was probably a man with a TON of pressure on his shoulders in the summer of 1865).

It is quite haunting to look at the accused hanging from the gallows especially knowing it took roughly six minutes for Powel to stop thrashing about as he slowly strangled to death. Herold did not die quickly either. Only Surrat and Azoroldt appeared to die fast.

Great video! I was shocked that the grounds of the such a historical site was now at least in a part a tennis court. After a little reading I discovered the building was slated for demolition in the early 2000's luckily a professor from NDU who worked in the building petitioned his congressman saying you can't let this happen, this is a historical treasure, we have to restore it. Congress came up with the funds to restore the building. It was out of historical preservation coffers and not DOD funds, and the building renovation took place from 2009-2012. This is the site of arguably the most historically sufficient trial in America and it was almost lost to the bulldozer and wrecking ball. I'm trying to pin down the name of the professor but so far no luck.

Me too!!! Also read ManHunt. I wanted to show the trial location more than get into the actual trial transcripts. I have videos from the night Lincoln was shot from Fords Theater, Dr Mudds House and grave, Richard Garrett’s grave and Lincoln’s tomb among others. I know a lot about the night and trial. I actually do a good job of showing exactly where the scaffolding was and where they were buried which no one else does a good job of doing.
