Great musicians. However nothing beats the Vienna Philharmonic recording with John Williams.

Hm, how do you think so? I was surprised by the so obvious tempo and coordination problems of the VPO (eg in Star Wars: Main title), that I couldn’t really rate them higher here compared to the BPO. However, the recording production itself or the Musikvereinssaal may have been more suitable to Williams music

@@MuMiCri I totally agree with you. The Berlin musicians seemed to vibe with his music much more. The difference in energy is huge, like they're excited to be performing Williams' music under his direction. The Vienna came off more like an obligation that they had to fulfill. I still can't forget the percussionist asleep at the wheel on snare drum who didn't play the down beat where the percussion is reintroduced during the transition from the trio section back to the recapitulation of the A theme. A problem that didn't occur with Berlin.

@@MuMiCri just came out the John Williams concert (2nd in Vienna) The Superman march had a better tempo compared to Berlin. The strings in Berlin don't touch me as much as the Wiener. I hope a 2nd recording will be produced.

@@TromboneConductor767 Yes there were some coordination problems especially with the percussion and brass section - which is important for most of Williams big scores… But maybe, just maybe, it’s also because Williams is not the best conductor (?) With a more experienced conductor with more routine those parts could have been better “managed”. Great concert and recording nevertheless!

@@kurbiscremesuppe Oh that’s enviable! I’d love to here a recording, especially since Superman March wasn’t part of the 2020 concert. The tempo though is ultimately the choice of the conductor, so… :D Of course everything is subjective here. I also noticed that the Berlin recording is more “neutral” and flat than the Vienna, which sounds more powerful. Too Bad they didn’t perform the very same program, so that we could compare piece by piece
