General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to present my father's request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack, and I'm afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

cryhavoc38 don’t want to burst your bubble but professional orchestras usually rehearse repertoire the week of the concert - there are no ‘long hours of rehearsals’ because they have so much repertoire. These types of concerts have 2 purposes - attract new audiences to live performance and make money. To the orchestra this is just another performance - nothing special. Now Beethoven on the other hand...

this theme gets me emotional. it still feels like a punch in the gut that carrie is gone. almost four years later and i still can't even accept she's gone. carrie has been my role model since i was five, and i wish i could've met her. she was such a talented, beautiful, and funny soul. she deserves the world. still hurts me that she's gone. i used to dance, and i was in an improv class, and the teacher asked us to dance to a movie or show theme, so i chose this one. danced a lyrical piece. did that two months after carrie passed, i couldn't hold in the tears. i miss her dearly. she isn't gone, she's one with the force. i love and miss you, princess. ♡

I always get choked up every time I listen to this particular performance. Though John Williams is the master, the Danish National Symphony really took this to another level. I can 'feel' this performance even better than the original. The flute player, the horns, and the violinists really got the nuance just right. And like someone else said, whoever mic'd this whole thing was a jedi knight of audio engineering perfection themselves. Hands down the only version of Leia's theme I keep coming back to

Oh my goodness...I am sitting here at my kitchen table, watching this performance for the second time and I am simply a wreck...balling my eyes out! The emotional depth and care the Danish National Symphony put into this performance is exquisite! And such a fitting tribute to Carrie Fisher. It was John William’s score of the original Star Wars (later dubbed episode 4) that first inspired me many years ago and made me realize my love of orchestral music. I was already a high school band student and had taken piano lessons for 6 years and very much into music but the sounds, the richness of each instrument and the combinations of them, and the extremely wide range of sounds and emotions from the soundtrack was exhilarating. I became a bassoonist (from saxophone) and played in orchestras for many years after thru college. I have always loved everything Star Wars, especially the music, and at the very top of the list is Leia’s Theme. There is such an emotional depth to this piece, what I consider John Williams’ best theme in the whole series (which includes so many incredibly different but equally emotional themes). SO, in choosing to listen to the DNSO’s version of this I was hesitant at first...you don’t MESS WITH MY STAR WARS MUSIC! Haha. But only a few bars into it and I knew this was special! I agree with the previous comments that just the slightly slower tempo only serves to make the piece even more emotional. And the soloists...AMAZING!! They all captured the spirit of the original recordings but elevated the music even higher. The longing, the desperation, the satisfaction, the..hope...amazing performance. Kudos to the DNSO!!

This piece and the other Star Wars pieces makes me remember when these movies first came out. As a Songwriter/Composer myself, who's delved into Classical/Orchestra, I can't fathom how John came up with this stuff. As someone who saw Empire Strikes Back with my Mom in theaters, when it first came out, this song makes me sad. As a young kid, "Leia" was legit in my top 5 SW Characters. Luke, Yoda, Han, Boba Fett, and then Leia. The Han and Leia story was actual love, and Carrie Fisher's life was filled with so much struggle. I guess I just feel sentimental and nostalgic hearing this. I miss being a kid in the 80s. Things were different. Star Wars was REAL, I thought it was.
