Absolutley sublime, I am listening to this with the snow bearing down outside here in the little village I live in just outside of Vienna nestled between the Danube and Vienna Woods, with the darkness descending. Perfect, thank you Christopher.

The greatest after Segovia, his master

Master? I think not. Williams owes most of his technique and musicianship to his father, Len. He only received the occasional "lesson" from Segovia, and in subsequent years was quite scathing in regard to Segovia's teaching approach.

Lol Segovia was a snob. Williams one of Segovias students claimed he’d go on like a little girl if one of his students played or even mentioned Agustin Barrios name. In an interview with Williams later in his career he mentioned how Segovia was extremely stuck in his ways and seamed jealous of other greats of his time.

Great spirit, rhythmic and dynamic control, but his tone is not so great, being very naily. Nevertheless, his recording of this piece inspired me to take up guitar (and later turn it into a career) about 50 years ago.

That’s a conscious choice I’m sure, a lot of players who play harpsichord music want it bright to emulate the original instrument… and bright can help bring out the counterpoint
