You always see the signs that say you are not allowed to flip on a ski resort but you never believe that they will actually tell you stop backflipping. This was definitely a first for us!

As someone who is living with the reproductions of many concussions from high school football, I am a huge advocate for helmets on the mountain. Especially for snowboarders where you can get whipped into the ground if you catch an edge just wrong there’s no reason not to. If your a skier and you’re not a park rat you just hit blues and greens all day yeah maybe you don’t need one but it never hurts.
@spinnenente
@spinnenente 2 жыл бұрын
I think helmets should just be default on the mountain. Indipendent of the slope or skill level you are not always in control especially when other people are involved you might not even have the time to react. I got knocked over by some dickhead on an icy part of a cat-track and my holiday continued thanks to my helmet.
@stevengood2481
@stevengood2481 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah never got why aggressive skiers or boarders dont wear helmets. I don't feel comfortable without one. Its kinda weird how the park rats wear it the least. Same in skateboarding. Its the street skaters doing rails that dont wear helmets. I guess they think its cool or something.
@CountryClubSkier
@CountryClubSkier 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevengood2481 it’s because for extreme skiers it’s all about doing the biggest, hardest, gnarliest line/trick and if you add the risk of not having a helmet it is that much more daring. I prefer helmets and encourage my friends to wear them, but it’s pretty similar to how hitting in bounds cliffs gets little respect when compared to backcountry cliffs, it’s just part of the culture.
@whimseyOFC
@whimseyOFC 2 жыл бұрын
If you plan to travel above 15mph down a slope, yeah, a helmet is recommended. What if snowdepth is low, and a high poking rock is just below the surface where you smash your face, its not gonna be pleasant. Its not pleasant in the first place. Riding without a helmet is just high risk and 0 reward besides colder ears than usual

I was skiing a blue, sped up just beyond my comfort level to get around a dude who was skiing erratically, then hit an ice patch and went down, hit my head. It can happen anywhere, everyone should wear a helmet. (But like Ryan Knapton, invest the time to find one that fits very comfortably, it will absolutely pay off)

Since it was nighttime you probably didn’t notice the garbage can that is under the lift about 2/3 of the way up. It significantly decreased the litter issue that they were having these last few years because people would see it as a challenge to “score”. Brilliant. Also-might be the slowest lifts on the planet!

This is my local. The ranger interaction made me lol because they really are that stupid. The” no inverts” thing was always in force because the mountain has had some issues with people getting seriously hurt/die In the park. The person who manages the place is surprisingly chill but because it’s owned by a collective of rich doctors/surgeons who are completely out of touch with modern ski/snowboard culture you don’t get the resources you need to adequately staff the ski patrol, rangers, park etc. they make their profit off the racing program and that priority in funding/attention is clear when you visit this place. Absolutely love the park crew tho. Those are my homies for life

If you’re going to force me to wear a helmet, I shouldn’t also be forced to sign a waiver when buying my pass. It’s one or the other. If you force me to wear protection, and then I get seriously injured despite said protection, then that’s on them. Or you could just let people wear one by choice cause like lol it’s the concussion you worry about, not the skull, and helmets are proven to not even remotely prevent concussions

remember the 90s, ya know that time we used to laugh at people who wore helmet on the slopes, and were most of the time just germans that wore them. now its basically a standard, i thought the first time it would feel silly since i was used to skiiing in the 90s with just a crazy snow hat on (the crazier the better) but its actually nice and warm, and you wear it for the other idiots on the slope not for yourself basically.

When we were kids, def no inverts allowed & we didn't have terrain parks. Other than the moguls, there were no jumps so we resorted to making them. We all had season passes & would work as a team, people watching for ski patrol while the others built the jump. We had to be quick, if we were successful we'd have to hit it quickly hoping the look-outs were doing a good job cuz as soon as ski patrol see you hitting it...game on. They'd destroy the jump & if they saw you hitting it & were able to catch you, depending on the patroller & how you treated them would decide the results. Most times you'd get a warning, other times they'd confiscate your pass for a day or 2 or 3 or so on. It was a fun cat & mouse game. I still ski bumps to this day, I just don't "twirl" around too much anymore. Be safe guys & have fun!

I think the owners have the right to make up what ever rules they like. They could state only people wearing pink can ride today. And that would be there right. Their sales might drop; but, it's their right. At Perfect North in Indiana (home of Nick Goepper and Justin Schoenefeld) they have big signs for the large parks that say No Rentals. I think this does more for keeping the less experienced out of danger. If Perfect North would have had a No Inversions rule, Nick and Justin wouldn't have won their medals in the Olympics this year. Johnathan, when you come to Perfect, just schedule for the first or second week of Feb. That's when the parks are at their best.

4:36 Can someone please tell me what "technique" he is using while dragging his back foot, right to left? Like a speed check? I Dont understand how to do that without catching an edge. Do someone have a video on that kind of "fishtail" technique? Thanks in advance!

Yeah man I'd say that's just a speed check, I think of them as quick counter rotated turns rather than only moving the back foot

"helmets required" but you're not allowed to go inverted? I would never go back to that place
@ReaperSilently
@ReaperSilently 2 жыл бұрын
here in Europe, most resorts require helmets, what is a good thing! you can mitigate serious so much by just wearing that! On a side note: Thanks to your vids, I'm motivated everyday I'm on the slopes (Austria here) to keep evolving ;-) Keep up the good work!

@@cosmiccatnip5406 True that! I'm a beginner who picked up snowboarding after 10 years and I'm still newbie at it, if not more then in the past. Never the less, I'm always keeping distance, going with someone who can keep the area behind me clear (up to an extent of course) and I'm always paying attention to what is in front, and I spend my first 12 hours training my braking and emergency breaking. When I look around me and see some of the people, I literally think. OMG, you should not be skiing or snowboarding here, take some lessons!

Helmets should not be mandatory for anything. Its personal choice. No surprise that you aren't allowed to flip there either. ITs a slippery slope. No pun intended.

Didn’t know there are so strict rules in ski centers out there, what is the reason for that? Safety?🤷🏼‍♂️ Even though everyone should be performing with their own risk..

I think it is probably because the resort just doesn't have medical equipments to treats customers with severe injuries. 🤔 So it make sense to prohibit dangerous acrobatics movement.
