I really enjoyed the analysis that you performed after this game. I found the opening analysis particularly beneficial, as you highlighted the nuance of those variations. You showed us how to analyze openings like a true master! Thank you.

18:35 Tony Rotella's Killer Sicilian book recommends 7. ... Be7 for black. white is usually happy to see 7. ... Nf6 allowing the sveshnikov transposition, so 7. ... Be7 confuses amateur white players. amateur white players usually play 8. Nd5 (which scores well for black) instead of the critical Nc4. john talks about it more in his review of the book for anyone interested at 15:34 kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2jZgISVodSqfNk

Very instructive game/analysis... especially to someone like me who is planning to add the Kalashnikov to my repertoire. (although after watching this carnage, I'm having second thoughts)

Great video John! Knight mobility in this game is beautiful. Loving the content and appreciate you streaming today. Top tier content. Cheers

I play this as white and this really helped me understand the nuances better, such as when you explained why to play Nc4 to take advantage of a delayed b5.

I really liked how you moved in to pressure the king side, not necessarily having a winning combo, but squeezing black's options into a complete loss of counterplay. And of course, "be careful to watch out for opponent's counterplay"!! Lol. Thanks!

"Do not sweat a drop in the evaluation of 2 to 3 points" I assume this doesn't apply to me being -3 on move 8

I've played the Kalashnikov for a while now. The point of ...Be7 before Nf6 is to deny white Bg5. Black will then later activate the bishop via d8-b6 or trade it off by playing Bg5 themselves. It does allow white to play Nc4, but after ...b5 the Knight moves to e3 and black claims that so many moves with one piece in the opening is detrimental to white's game. Especially since it is actually black that has the lead in development at that point.

Hey John! You mentioned that you really liked how your knights supported each other on e3 and d5. Are there any guidelines on knowing when such knights are superfluous and when their support of each other is useful? Thanks for another great, instructive game and analysis!!
@itsmeBP Жыл бұрын
i think they're useful when they're controlling critical squares or exerting a lot of influence on weaknesses in an opponent's position, so that if one gets traded off you can replace it and maintain your positional control. If a knight has no prospects and one of its rerouting squares is occupied by the other knight then that's generally a sign of poor coordination

Hi John, I'm an E4 player and score the worst against the sicillian out of all of Black's responses, so it's really instructive to see you navigate these positions. I would be interested to see a Grand Prix attack at some point from the White side if that interests you, as it seems like a promising way to get Black a bit out of book.

Tbf, a 2100 knows they run the risk when playing a more fringe opening. The element of surprise would be my best resort in playing the mighty Fins
@matta5749 Жыл бұрын
I doubt the 2100 opponent felt like he played well. The “accuracy” thing actually gets inflated when one player gets completely blown off the board out of the opening like this compared to sharp back and forth games
