Looks great! I'd love to work in that garage. The hollow core exterior door thing is from the 50s and 60s. Its kind of annoying. Def. a good move to replace. Having the floor done is great. I'm the reason we likely can't have epoxy floor. Besides its hard finding bolts, but spill, spatter, and brake fluid spills. I can't see spending the money. Looks great! My buddy did his garage when he bought his house. His is holding up well. He paid for it as well.
@JohnBuildsIt2 жыл бұрын
None of the fluids will harm these floors man! Battery acid is basically the only thing. So much easier to clean up

I’m fortunate enough that my neighbor has installed hundreds of epoxy floors commercially, and I hired him to finish my one car detached garage. My initial plan was to go with a big box store (Rust*leum) kit, but after chatting with him, I learned so much. We ended up grinding the floor with a simple angle grinder and diamond bit. Now the epoxy will really bond and will not peel up. Didn’t bother to use any etching product; resurfacing with a grinder eliminates the need. Then, I purchased epoxy and color chips online, where I was able to select some colors I really love, instead of basic boring (ugly blue chips or ugly gray chips, take your pick). Then my neighbor recommended we get additional epoxy to make a thicker more durable surface, so after some research I purchased a 100% solids epoxy primer which will go down first, then the 50% solids color coat will go on top of that. I’m going with an off white base and earth tone chips mixed with bronze metallic chips! Walls have been painted a warm off white. Only downside of hiring my neighbor is that we started in January and it’s still not done yet (but , I haven’t been home since December anyway). It’s just as well, since nighttime temps must be above 40 degrees per the product instructions. So, we will finish the floor this month (I will help him & learn from him), and then I’ll finally start setting up my shop/extra living space. I’m super stoked. Oh, by sourcing the epoxy from not-big-box, I also had option for any color under the sun, including hot pink, glow in the dark, and even metallic lava flow-look. I was tempted to add neon pink / black light chips, but in the end decided to stick to warm modern neutrals. I can always add black light/pink decor items, and won’t be stuck with them long after the novelty wears off. I’m very impressed with your attention to detail; I’m like this in lots of ways, but can also be “it’s just a garage, the walls don’t need to be perfect”. My neighbor went through and has patched and sanded the walls, which I think was overkill considering I’ll be hanging a ton of wall mounted storage. Anyhow, he wanted to do it do 🤷♀️. I also will probably build a walled off storage area along the entire back wall, complete with a framed in locking door, because garage break-ins are unfortunately pretty common in my area. Nobody’s going to steal my ultra -quiet $$$ air compressor!!

Garage ceiling seams often pop like that in the future even if redone properly. With the heat and cool cycles in a garage, a harder mud is supposed to be used. My garage is the same way but I have too much stuff in it to pull it all out and redo it 😂
