Todd Phillips rejected any of James Gunn’s notes and discourse when it came to “Joker 2” (and only really collaborated with Pamela Abdy and Michael De Luca at WB) and the film was released under WB instead DC Studios. DC Studios’ track record, at the moment, consist solely of “Super/Man” and “The Penguin” (and the first DCU project, “Creature Commandos”, is getting released a month from now). Both of which have been really well received and highly acclaimed.

I look at it as DC finally having the chance to be where they should have been. Ive always said DC has zero business being below Marvel. They finally made have a DC Studios, something they didn't have before. Thats not to say DC hasn't been good, Superman and Lois has been really good, Harley Quin on MAX has been pretty good,funny and entertaining. I started watching Breaking Bad in its 4th season. Was I lost? Sure, but I didn't care. I liked it and decided to watch the other seasons. I cannot stand that argument that people make. And I also hate how John pretends that Agatha has that problem, but Civil War didn't. That makes no sense at all. Civil War starts with several movies of continuity baked into it.

I couldn't agree more anybody who thinks that somebody's going to make a movie franchise of 10 years with TV shows 6 to 8 episodes each and you're never going to have to watch any of the past stuff to understand or get the full story is a ridiculous notion. Is not how any other movie or TV show franchise has ever worked in the history of ever. You can't start at return of the Jedi and know why Luke is trying to say Vader, you can't start at Harry Potter order the Phoenix and then ask who's this Voldemort guy, You can't start at season 10 of supernatural and ask who's the reference to this dad they're talking about why is his mom coming back from the dead how'd you die. All movie franchises and TV shows tell a continuous story that in some ways you can just pick up and be okay but you'll never have the full story and you always be a little bit lost and in some cases if you get too deep in you'll be incredibly lost Like if you didn't watch a new hope and you started an empire strikes back you'd probably catch up over those two movies or if you start at Harry Potter on book 3 The prisoner of Azkaban you're probably be okay you'll be missing some stuff but you'd be okay and if you start at supernatural and season 3 you'd still have the majority of the story over time. But the longer you go not watching something and jump in later movies or seasons of a show the less sense that show are movie series is going to make. And no movie series in the history of ever has had 30 plus movies plus movies that intertwine with TV shows the way the Marvel cinematic universe and TV universe have been weaved It is a one-of-a-kind never done before thing. There are plenty of recap things they have done so that people can try to get a chunk of information and get caught up but the best way to enjoy them is to watch the key movies and and the most important shows to get the full story there are plenty of the movies and the shows you could skip and you would still know everything that's going on in endgame and infinity war but there are some shows you need to watch and there are plenty of TV shows you could skip like Moon Knight and still fully understand what's going on Agatha all the way but you kind of should watch one division and you kind of need to have seen endgame and probably should have watched the multiverse of madness but you could probably skip that one and still be okay. But the real fans who have watched it all like me will have more insight and understand the characters and the stories a lot better and I don't expect a movie franchise or a TV series to cater around the new people jumping on and not expect them to eventually go back and watch older stuff usually if you find a new show that you like and you actually enjoy it you end up going back and watching the previous movies or seasons to get caught up That's what most people will do.

Stuff disappearing from streaming, makes me think of when I was younger. If you didn't catch it when it was on, it was gone forever. You might catch a movie at the cinema, and maybe once or twice on TV. No VHS, no DVD, no Blu Ray, no streaming. Just gone. Here in the UK, the BBC just outright destroyed shows that they thought no one would watch again, and they are gone forever. Not stored on a hard drive, or anything. Just removed from existence. First off it's not really a fresh start they are still going to be carrying the baggage of the old DC universe and even the baggage of Joker 2. The failure of the old DC franchise will leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth for even the new one so they're going to have to overcome that with good quality films. Even with good films like Man of steel they rarely cracked a billion dollars on any movie so will they do it now it's hard to say they have a long way to go before they're going to overtake Marvel. Marvel would also have to continuously do bad such as leading into doomsday and secret Wars If those movies are successful and are billion-dollar movies or multi-billion dollar movies then no DC's not going to catch them anytime soon if ever. If those movies are huge flops then yes DC might catch and surpass this version of Marvel, but I don't think they'll ever reach the level of success that Marvel's already done having almost 30 straight films that were all quite good and many were over a billion dollars in all of them are around half a billion dollars in what they made at the box office, not to mention toys animation and other things they did really well. So in order for DC to catch or surpass Marvel studios, Marvel would have to produce a lot of low quality product over the next several years and if it continues to build off of the new direction now that Bob iger and Kevin feige are back in the driver seat and if Agatha all along is an indicator of how they can make good shows and good movies again then no they'll never surpass Marvel. That doesn't mean DC can't be good and can't be a better success if they can crank out a good five movies in a row that are all good even if they're not huge at the box office in the beginning then yes but they are going to have to be willing to lose a little bit of money to overcome the past and I don't know that their studio will do it a lot of studios don't get that you have to make a couple of good movies before you can be a billion dollar franchise when you're starting a franchise that's already had a past. Dungeons & dragons face that exact same thing with horrible movies in the past and they came out with a really good movie but it wasn't overly successful because people just assumed it was going to be crap had they stuck with it and released another one that was great It would have made more money and then a third one would have made more money and they kept going event so they could have turned it into a franchise that would make a lot of money but they gave up because the first movie didn't make money even though it was super popular and everyone thought it was great and it will become a cult classic because it's a good movie they gave up because they're stupid and don't understand you got to spend money to make money, DC could have a similar fate if this new Superman movie comes out but only makes 400 million dollars at the box office but it's good Well then keep going and make the Batman movie and maybe it only makes 5 or 600 million but it's good The next movie will make more and it'll keep going up and they will overcome the stigma of the previous movies if they just stick with it. Does Warner Brothers have the foresight to do that I guess time will tell But either way they would have a long road and marble would have to do a lot of misstepping for them to be overtaken by DC anytime soon. But I hope they're both great.

The Flash was a LEGIT great movie and I've had to defend it many times! Flashpoint itself is one the best stories in all of comics and the film provided a pretty solid take on it. There were some very creative visuals and artistic choices sprinkled in, i.e. the chrono bowl and a LITERAL baby shower?!!!? WTF!!! 😭😭😭 Not to mention the execution of the 2 Barrys as separate characters with entirely different personalities. Great world building as we see the other J. League members appear. The entire first sequence with Batfleck was cool as sh** 😆 Very good movie!!!

Content and movie quality wise DC has potential to surpass MCU but not box office wise I seriously believe no one can recreate what MCU did with avengers stuff even Marvel themselves can’t continue that. But we have to see if new DC under James Gunn can tell excellent stories outside of Batman lore which old DC has utterly failed. Upcoming superman movie needs to be really good for eradicating bad talk that they can tell excellent stories outside Batman galore. Greatness of MCU is they told excellent stories involving multiple superheroes not just Iron man or Captain America. I believe in James Gunn that he can rebuild DC as he has experience and learning’s from his mentor Kevin Fiegi and Gunn himself is consistent in making awesome superhero movies proof in point Guardians of Galaxy.

Can DC overtake Marvel? The answer to that question is, yes but DC will have to prove it. As someone that loves both but I'm a little more of a DC fan because I grew up with Super friends, Batman the animated series, Superman the animated series, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, I have a soft spot for DC. Marvel has cooked since 2008. And the infinity saga was mostly great. The Synderverse besides Man of Steel was to put it kindly, not good. DC will have to prove it. The good news is, James Gunn is the right person to helm the creative side of DC studios. Super excited for Superman, the Supergirl movie and Lanterns.

I think when Batman fans, say they want a more fantastical Batman. I don't think they mean something like Batman & Robin or Even Batman Forever there is a middle Ground Look at Batman The Animated series. Batman Arkham Asylum. Batman Arkham City. Those are not anything like A Batman & Robin, yet they have Killer Croc, Scarecrow, Ivy, Freeze, Ras, supernatural stuff, Clayface, Titans, Ect ect. I think that's more what they mean when they say more Fantastical. Even though they have all those Characters and thing in them. There's still a dark, horror, serious, grounded tone to them as well. Not a silly, campy one. Or maybe it's just me and what I mean, when I say I want something more Fantastical with a Live Action Batman. Btw I love the reality/ grounded Batman stuff too. If we’re talking right NOW, absolutely DC can. The Penguin and the Christopher Reeve documentary make for a strong start.. but they have to nail Superman in order to have any legitimate shot of having the stronger momentum. This new regime has a lot of people excited! I’m definitely one of them. I think Creature Commandos, while not the most high profile, has a lot of promise as well. AND, Supergirl along with Lanterns both sound incredible so far. The potential is most definitely there. We’ll see!

This is such a clickbait topic and it's premature given all the recent failures of DC. I get that the Joker won a few awards, The Batman was well received as well as well as the penguin. But three successful projects doesn't even warrant this question being asked. Saleswise DC will never overtake Marvel. Unfortunately outside of hardcore fans more people like what Marvel is doing rather than the self-serious prestige direction of DC. This is always been the case we see this over in the comic books. DC goes self serious experiences a sales boost, sales drop off and then they return to their comic book roots ala DC Rebirth. Also anybody who thinks that DC is poised to overtake Marvel, fails to understand how damaged the DC brand is. We comic book fans know the difference between the Zack Snyder's DCEU, James Gunn's DCU, Matt Reeves Bat Universe, and DC's Elesworld featuring the Joker. The ang person doesn't know the difference and then not trying to figure out the difference. All they know is that most of these projects weren't very good and failed at the box office which translates into DC doesn't make good projects. James Gunn has to do a lot of heavy lifting in order to reverse the idea that DC doesn't make good projects. Joker 2 flopping doesn't help his cause. The Batman nearly did 800 million worldwide But the penguin hasn't charted anywhere since it's been on TV. The problem is that internet chatter social media buzz doesn't translate into viewership and if nobody views it, then it doesn't have an impact outside of the echo chamber. Perhaps DC will eventually overtake Marvel but they have an image/brand issue which they have to overcome in the eyes of the public if they're going to overtake Marvel.

Penguin maybe doing great but it also has the advantage of being a TV series which means people don’t have to go to the theatres and pay extra to go and watch it. The true test is going to be the Superman movie; how well will it do given the failure of the last few DCEU movies and Joker 2. I think this Superman movie needs to be great to be successful.

I certainly hope DC gives Marvel a run for their money, but I just don't see it happening. I think the general public really wants Marvel to succeed. They want that euphoric high that was Civil War, that was Endgame. I just dont think they care that much for DC movies, Batman notwithstanding. John thinks DC is starting with a clean slate. This is too early to say DC will overtake Marvel. I believe the penguin success is because the same people behind the Batman. I do like James gunns movies but not every one enjoys his work. I feel even even if superman is great the average moviegoer will still associate it with the old dceu and not give it a chance at first. It will need positive reviews from the audience. Now I say marvel track record since endgame was not great but there are great movies that were released since endgame. Although I do think dc released better TV shows than marvel.

I get John's point of view, but honestly if some make an objective effort they would notice that James Gunn's suicide squad wasn't all that great because despite being a DC movie it felt like a marvel movie: the jokes, some dialogues, the way characters interacted with each other, the use of songs among other factors felt like a recycled GOTG movie BECAUSE it was the same director using the same formula, and applying that same formula to superman movie...I see a 50/50 chance that superman may not be all that great. It's basically a reversed Kingdom Come, nothing wrong with that, but I wonder if James will have the guts to give his superman a unique style and esccent instead of a recycled christopher Reeve version of superman. Because, what's the point in making a new superman movie IF that superman ends being similar to Christopher's version? Many fans would kotice that and they won't necessarily like it
