John - you cannot retire until Avengers Secret Wars (2027). That feels like an excellent place to leave things with the channel. We still have to see Superman, Mandalorian & Grogu, Avatar 3, The Odyssey, Supergirl, Masters Of The Universe, Dune 3, Spider-Man 4, Avengers Doomsday, Avengers Secret Wars and a few more seasons of Shrinking, Shogun, HOTD, Last Of Us, Peacemaker, Rings Of Power. And who knows?? Maybe we will finally get that Blade movie.

By the way James Mangold never said that it would not be connected to the DCU. He said he views it as a standalone story. James Gunn who is the studio head said that it will be connected to the DCU but tonally outside of it. That's no different than what they can choose to do with Moonknight in the MCU. The DCU could choose to do that with Blue beetle, it was a simple origin story that could end up being brought back up in the DCU or just drop the character in after he's already been introduced The main thing is he's going to tell the story he wants to tell and introduce a DCU character and the DCU can choose to do what they want to do with them later on. Werewolf by night is another example where the same thing could take place. They can keep it a singular story or bring it up into the larger picture

that Man of Steel tornado scene is so incredibly stupid. People were hysterical and dying all around Clark, literally no one would've noticed if he flew super quick to save his dad. Especially since he's faster than a speeding bullet. Can you see a bullet flying in the air? Even if somehow someone did notice Clark flying, they'd probably think he got sucked up by the tornado. Dumbest scene of the whole movie

It truly is one of the dumbest scenes in Cinema. Yeah he could have gone fast while no one was looking, or he could have pretended to struggle. Either way he had all the power to rescue his dad and him doing nothing is unbelievable. Plus, the fact that he eventually does reveal himself to the world means his dad died for nothing. All in all, probably the worst scene in cinema from a storytelling point of view, it is utter nonsense.

I'd be down for a revisiting of the Skrull Secret Invasion storyline, if only to have a 3 movie arc of a properly paranoid hero community. They can even kick it off with Gia's powers failing her and lead up to the coming of the first ever Super Skrull, the legendary Kl'rt. The multitudes that were spared it on Disney+ won't have the stink of the series to give them trepidation (and I wouldn't even call it Secret Invasion in any way), but what would give it a bit more distancing from the ill conceived series is setting it on a "New Hala" and let it play out on a scale that leads to a Kree/Skrull war, or spin into (with the X-Men coming) a united Kree-Skrull empire/Shi'ar war.

53:15 Here’s how I would describe Secret Invasion: that show felt more like a prologue and that the actual invasion was only starting in the last five minutes of the show when you see civilians gunning down people out of fear they’re Skrulls. Nothing of note was actually happening in that show, it felt like the characters were just moving and talking without any sense of logic. There are shapeshifting aliens and yet Nick Fury didn’t seem to care; he was so bored and uninterested in what was happening around him. Secret Invasion was a paranoid spy thriller but it was not thrilling or scary. It was boring.

I don't think there was a need for mangold to say swamp thing wasn't gonna connect with the rest of the dcu. There's barely a dcu to connect to, and not many dc characters hang around the swamps of louisiana. If there's one character that makes total sense not crossing paths with other heroes it's swamp thing. Having said that, I hope, and I'm sure, he is going to team up with other characters down the line. Constantine, animal man, justice league dark...there's room for swampy there.

I feel like if the intention is to go with a horror movie approach both James Mangold's "Swamp Thing" & Mike Flannagan's "Clay-Face" should both be else world projects outside of the DCU canon, black label, whatever they are going to call it. That would make more sense because there is less pressure to meet various release date strategies. Otherwise if the strategy is include these movies or projects INTO the DCU it makes no sense to have (2) separate DCU movies, of Batman villains, lead into the Bat-Family seems like a crazy strategy. This is sounding like Sony's extended spider-verse all over again.

@@antiwesternvalues If they are hyper realistic and grounded it WOULD make sense to include them Matt Reeves Bat-Verse but I am betting James Gunn doesn't want to add even more material to a non-DCU Batman batverse beyond what's there (Batman, The Penguin) because then it will seem like he's just building unto a Batman that's not HIS. None of these early DC plans make a lot of sense to me beyond Superman & Supergirl and maybe the Green Lantern show. That stuff makes sense. I think James Gunn should just hold DCU fantastical Batman and the bat-family and his rogues gallery until Matt Reeves is done whenever that might be. I bet we never see a Batman 3 but maybe..

swampthing is going to be in the dcu it has no reason not to, the origin story of swampthing is a very close-knit story and can take place in its standalone it does not effect anything nor do other characters appear during his origin story, this doesnt mean this character cant be used in a future justice league dark or Constantine series, when that becomes the case there no reason for them to make a new swamp thing and not just use this one
