@@Andorski I hope so, but it’s easier said than done. Most Superhero adaptions seem to over play the “no kill” rule as an easy way to convey virtue. Hopefully Gunn finds a way to thread the needle like the MCU did with Steve Rogers. Superman and Cap should have a very similar moral compass.

I think if they bring Damian Wayne in he'll already have been trained by the League of Assassins and may have already killed. Even if he's the 10 or 11 year old, he'll be like X-23 in Logan or Hit Girl. They will already have the skill and have a maturity beyond their years. What the boy needs is guidance like Erin said.

It will certainly go a long way in having people accept that Bruce brings a pre-teen with him to fight criminals. Having been trained all his life. I do hope though that we can still get a slightly bigger bat family than just those two. With Dick already having become Nightwing. Given the time frame of batman having had to deal with Ra's at some point early on in his career. And the movie picks up 10 years later. That should make it possible for Bruce to have Dick become old enough to leave for Bludhaven and depending on how many bat family members they want to have possibly even Jason or Tim (you can't have both) and Barbara even if they don't show up in this movie. I wish that Damian won't be the first Robin. To me it just adds to Damians character that Robin is a title that he wants. Because he almost views it like a rank the same way the league have ranks.

Me and my brother are excited about every single thing we have not been this excited for anything superhero related since the Batman. We weren’t planning on going to see the new Shazam movie, but now we are. We’re especially excited because the introduction of Damian Wayne means that more batfamily members are going to be introduced. And we won’t have to introduce a new person every single film. Which is something we’re both excited for.

In Gunn’s announcement vid he seemed very excited. He’s someone who’s passionate about comics and knows how to tell great stories. They didn’t give release dates on everything but I assume it’s a slate from 2025-2028. We’re gonna be entertained the next few years for sure.

Now correct me if I am wrong but I watched the press release from Gunn twice. It certainly seemed to me both Aquaman and Blue Beetle films are taking place after flashpoint and part of the new DCU, at least that's how it came across to me.

That part is a little confusing, but what I understood from the video and press interviews is that Blue Beetle is new enough to stay in the new universe, and Aquaman might happen in the middle of the reset? They're saying Aquaman may continue to finish a trilogy, but also might not. My guess is it will be considered Elseworlds if it continues.

Jason momoa is staying on as aquaman. He will also do lobo and possibly some voiceover work for animated projects and some other projects. He has spoken on this. He is a part of the new DCU. Only person not coming back is Superman Henry Cavill. Toby Emm erich wanted him gone after justice league 2017 and that window for him has come and gone unfortunately. But these shows and films look like they’ll be great. Especially paradise lost project and Lanterns.

For discussion's sake: Your argument for Elseworlds is that you don't need to know the continuity for it. However, they're debuting it with Joker *2*, and Batman *2*. So within the Elseworlds umbrella, there will be different streaks of continuity that you need to know? And how do they interact? Does the existence of a Joker series preclude Joker from the Batman Elseworlds Series? And then there will be a third one in the main continuity? I think it's going to get messy because it's already started without a guiding vision...

Guardians is a great movie, but would so many people have gone to see it if marvel hadn't established the rest of the MCU first? Even if guardians was successful without the rest of the marvel films, would guardians have been enough to build all of marvel off of? It seems like a lot of relatively unknowns for this first chapter, all I'm saying is it seems a bit risky, but I'm optimistically intrigued and hopefully it pays off for them.

I think what Rob said kind goes with rest of the new DCU. They will wait to announce Jason M as Lino until after Aquaman 2. and with Shazam and Flash coming soon they don’t want to rock any boats and will just a bland answer until this last slate of films is over. I’m super bummed there’s no season 2 of peacemaker on the horizon even if he shows up in other properties.

Good rollout of DC content and I trust Gunn, but definitely not a fan of Damian Wayne. I think Dick is a far more interesting Robin and I've generally preferred keeping the Bat fam to just he and Batman. Bruce having an army of kids fighting crime has always just seemed a bit off to me.

I noticed that John says that he wants Marvel to do the same thing that DC has just announced in terms of making an Elseworlds type of division label/movies but the problem with that when it comes to Marvel at least is that they can only do so much in terms of pushing what kind of movies they can make when they're owned by Disney, which is a family-friendly company. WBDiscovery is not just a family-friendly company, so they can push what kind of movies they want to make on any type of tone and genre and this makes perfect sense for DC but not for Marvel. The closest thing I think that Marvel has done to Matt Reeve's and Christopher Nolan's Batman is maybe Netflix's Daredevil, I would say but other than that nothing else. (Correct me if I'm missing anything).

The way they worded what the superman movie is going to be about. Considering that it's James Gunn who loves using more obscure characters. And you already have a proven track record that it can work as a movie with the animated adaptation. I'm really hoping that this means that he's going up against the Elites. It seems like the James Gunn thing to do while not being so out there that people would go "Gunn just Guardians of the galaxyed Superman." Since I believe he will stay very true to Superman himself while the elites can have that outcasts vibe that he clearly is fond of telling stories about.

This is where I feel this whole DC announcement was biffed. While I am excited to see everything James Gunn announced, I said something to a friend that I think gets at the heart of the matter. "The biggest problem with the DC movies so far is that it has been all-over-the-place. This does not feel any less all-over-the-place." They needed to make the concepts of the DCU not confusing. This is as, if not more, confusing as ever. That could absolutely change as these projects start coming out, but right now I still feel compelled to approach the DC film and television properties with trepidation more than excitement. Even though I do have plenty of excitement.

Really ? Did they just say there is going to be a probably 3 season animated series to start this new DC universe, and that in order to understand what the first phase is going to be about is to watch this animated series ? Is this really essential ? Secondly I have a theory that Amanda Waller, and the Peacemaker team will retain their memories, will find themselves in this new world that they know very little about, and learn new things along the way. Also a prequel Wonder Woman tv show. Hmm I’m willing to bet in the final episode Diana will be born.

I have a theory about Walker’s place in the DCU. In the announcement video that DC posted, Creature Commandos and Waller were the first things brought up, then Gunn went into Superman, which he said was the beginning of the new DCU. I think Waller will not be part of the new DCU, and will release in 2024. I think it will be a complete reboot.

I am so excited for Superman/Batman, not sure about everything else but I trust James Gunn as a creative. I really hope he can get Ben Affleck to direct The Brave & The Bold. That could be really interesting. I know he's going to play Kraven but I think Aaron Taylor Johnson would make a really great Batman. Jensen Ackles or Alexander Skarsgard, or Scott Eastwood could also be great casting for Batman if they wanted to skew 'slightly' older.
