Exactly. In fact, they didn’t have to bring Doomsday in the film. That final battle with Doomsday was probably the worst part of the film because it didn’t fit with the rest of the film. The first two acts were more grounded and they decided to end with a big CGI battle that didn’t fit with the first two acts.

I think what it’ll be remembered is for its lack of a plan. A cautionary tale. I’m not saying every movie was bad, but it’s clear that they had conflicting ideas with their creatives and were overly reactionary to do hard “course corrections”. How's it not fair to compare it to the MCU? I think it's beyond fair. One company had the rights to all their IP from day one. One company had a multi-billion dollar company backing them from day one. One company has the most recognizable and most popular superheroes in the world. DC had every advantage. Yet they failed. It barely got off the launch pad before it all started crashing back down. The one thing that Marvel had that DC didn't was Kevin Feige. Someone with a vision, an idea that the studio allowed to see through. Maybe Snyder could have been that person, maybe not (he made some really stupid choices so who knows where things would have gone with him in the long term). WB is just a very badly run company, even today after getting bought out.

BvS story was fine, but way too much for one movie. There should have been a Batman movie inbetween which should have showed Batman hatred for Superman because of the events of MoS. Most of Lex's plotting pitting those two against each other should have been that movie. Clark should have been visiting Gotham to investigating Batman. There’s a big elephant in the room: the Zack Snyder problem. Even if WB had entrusted him to do a MoS sequel/ Batfleck movie next and lay the ground work, you can’t deny his take on these DC characters has divided the fandom, something marvel hadn’t had an issue with in their heyday. Look at the audience consensus: a large number of audiences equally disliked Snyders DCEU movies as much as those that enjoyed them. You can’t kick off a cinematic universe by having roughly half of your target support you. Otherwise the DC movies would’ve been dead in the matter before they could even reach a Justice League movie. It’s this reason why I’m cautiously optimistic that James Gunn DC movies could right the DCEUs wrongs.

WB tried to catch up to the MCU too fast without building up the fanbase and goodwill like the MCU had. WB also kept hemming and hawing on what direction they wanted to take, not allowing any vision to solidify for long before changing it again. A lot of uncertainty at the top, mixed with that top changing several times. Snyder was also the wrong man for the job, his disdain for the source material coming through loud and clear. He may have been a good fit for CERTAIN projects, but as the overall architect? No. All they had to do was look at what the DCAU did and kick things off with that as the blueprint. Simple. Easy. Done.

I equally blame WB and Zack Snyder! The studio really should have invested in putting out more movies to set up the DCEU in a similar manner as the MCU did. In 4 years, the MCU started off with Iron Man & the Incredible Hulk in 2008 then finished Phase 1 in 2012 with the Avengers. The DCEU started off with Man of Steel in 2013 and closed out 2017 with the Justice League 4 years later. Four years is 4 years. The MCU did much more in its universe building in 4 years than the DCEU so we can't blame WB for wanting a big team up movie. We just have to fault them in how they did it. And, that's where I assign blame/fault on Zack Snyder b/c one he took too many liberties in trying the change Superman and Batman. First off, he should have known how controversial and divisive it would be on the fandom to have Superman and Batman kill. It was really unnecessary. He should have known that his version of Lex Luthor was going to be a failure too! Snyder failed to center the DCEU around Superman like the MCU centered around Iron Man. Henry Cavill's Clark/Superman had like only 40-41 lines in Batman V Superman in which he killed Superman off at the end, and we got under 30 minutes of screen time of Superman in the 4 hour Snyder version of the Justice League (10%-11%). It was probably even less in the theatrical release. Making things worst is that we got a dark and depressed Clark Kent/Superman the majority of when we did get to see him. That in my opinion is unacceptable the the main reason why the DCEU failed miserably. I hope new DCU learned their lesson & will not repeat those mistakes!

I will never forget how Snyder fumbled BvS. A trio that have had so many stories told, roadmaps he could’ve followed, and an entire animated universe he could’ve pulled inspiration from - and he still botched it. That’s one you can’t blame on WB meddling, BvS was before they started doing all that and in fact it’s bad reception was the reason they started meddling. Ultimate edition was only a minor improvement. People say Henry Cavill never got a chance to truly shine in the role, but some forget the man who had all the opportunity to allow Henry to shine but never did, Zack Snyder.

While there were 99 problems with the entire DCEU from tone to Synder, to how the order of the movies came out to even the disconnectedness of the film, I believe the foundational two issues are: 1 Leadership and 2 Lack of understanding these characters. 1) Everything rises and falls on leadership. Teams lose in sports but the first person they fire is the coach. Whoever was the decided voice should have had a vision and well thought out plan from the beginning. They should have determined the end of the franchise first and worked backwards on how to get there from the start. They needed maybe one type of Kevin Feige leader with a strong team around him to get this done. And 2, they should have understood these characters better. When they understand the main comic book motives, personalities, and purposes of these characters the story or stories would have presented themselves. Letting the idea of these characters as the majority of the fans know them best act out how they would normally act would have created interesting stories, dialogues, conversations, and the conflicts. The general audience doesn't know what these comic book characters do or who they are. They only know these characters from how they have been portrayed in live action, animated, and video game medias. Fans have only seen Batman kill people in Keaton's Batman, Bale's Batman, and even Batflecj. That's what they expect from Batman in the movies now, not knowing the general motivation of the character from the comic books has a well known and established rules that he doesn't kill and he hates guns.

I think the difference between Avengers/JL and guardians, fantastic 4 etc. is they are not an actual "team" so to speak, they become one, but thats the thing is we have to see them become one, they are separate powerful characters that because of a threat so big, need to come together to take it out. But they are not with each other day in n day out like GOTG or fantastic 4. Thats why separate films establishing each character works better first, even if you did make a good movie, it might not have the same impact as seeing characters you already know and hopefully love come together, its whats special about the avengers movies, on top of being good.

BvS is a mash of the "Death of Superman" and "The Dark Knight Returns" comics; two comics that have nothing to do with each other, and that posit very different relationships than the movies ever cared to portray. BvS is what happens when the Source material is disrespected.

I do like Man Of Steel but my main problem is Pa Kents death. The protection of Clark’s existence had been made it didn’t need to be punctuated with aPa Kent sacrifice which Clark could have easily prevented. The original comic book and adapted in Superman the Movie death where Pa Kent dies of natural causes and Clark says ‘with all these powers and I still couldn’t save him’ not only grounded Superman it also showed the limits of his powers and that he is not a god.

Man of Steel was truly a great and underrated movie……..I think Batman v. Superman was just as good and the Snyder Cut of Justice League was also very good. That said having Man of Steel followed up by Batman v. Superman and Justice League didn’t make any sense. Unless they were planning to do a stand alone Batman movie as a precursor to a pan ultimate showdown with Darkside. Perhaps things quiet down considerably and we find all the characters getting back to “normal” life doing their own thing and somewhat growing apart. Man of Steel 2 dealing with Superman trying to find others of his kind. You conclude the stand alone Batman movie with Darkside planning another attack on earth leading into another huge Justice League Movie.

DCEU Movies: Man of Steel - flaws outweigh ambitions. Dawn of Justice - messy. Wonder Woman - ambitions outweigh flaws. Suicide Squad - bad. Justice League - insufferable. Zack Snyder's movies had no heart and were too dark. Especially when you compare them to Wonder Woman and Aquaman. The tonal variation in all these movies is just too great.

Letting Snyder, basically, do whatever he wanted with BvS was what killed the DCEU. MoS was a good/great film with a lot of flaws, but instead of the studio reigning in the worse impulses of Snyder, they doubled down on his vision with BvS. One-off great films like WW and Aquaman after that were just propping up a cinematic universe that very few people cared about after BvS. It has been really frustrating to watch it happen as a lifelong fan of Superman and DC comics.

Fun fact: Zack Snyder originally wanted to make Man of Steel 2 where Batman was only supposed to appear as a cameo with a hint of the future. But Warner Bros. demanded their version of "Civil War" with a bunch of characters like Marvel's, which Snyder and Goyer thought was a dubious idea, but as hired workers they did everything that was asked of them.

Despite its ups and downs i love the DCEU and im grateful for the films we got. However im ready for a reboot. And in the meantime im gonna add Aquaman 2 to complete my DCEU blu ray collection.

BVS was too messy. They rushed the story too fast. Should of kept it slow moving to build characters. Plus, too many ppl want unwarranted jokes.

The only things you can compare the dceu to is she hulk , secret invasion, runaways and any show before iron man! Marvel got you excited to go to the theaters and stay after the credits! The dceu had u looking at your watch!

i liked most of DCEU but i'm happy it ended. i just hope that Gal Gadot will still being Wonder Woman, same way probabky Margott Robbie will still being Harley Quinn. i liked to hear you guys thoughts on this subject

Honestly it had potential but the reality it was poorly executed. They try to do what marvel did and it just didn't work. Also the writing and story telling was poorly done

I agree with a lot what was said, but I really feel social media and critics shared in the killing of these films also. And now that great Marvel legacy of films is going through a somewhat same process only their problem is trying to please the FAN BASE where DCEU stuck to their guns.

Warner Bros went from one of the best corporate leadership teams…a team that brought you Harry Potter, the Matrix, the Nolan Batman trilogy, etc. It went from that to a regime that brought you mediocrity and a sale to AT&T.

I think you guys said it perfectly well. This balance between studio interference but also just flawed filmmaking as well. It’s not one or the other. Only the Snyder films were the really ambitious movies in this series in my opinion, and that’s because they were the only ones that could push the main narrative forward. But they were also so gloomy/ edgy. We didn’t necessarily need dorky Clark from the Reeves movies, or the super friends. But there are just genuinely bad ideas at play here. But also, these are definitely movies you can look back on and actually like. They are well choreographed with some amazing acting and potential. Though, it falls on its face as far as execution.

They should've given Nolan what he wanted during MoS. He was originally suppose to oversee the whole DCEU. He picked Snyder to be the lead director. Syndar works great when he works with a producer who's telling him to creat within said producers imagine. MoS stylistically was far different than most of the DCEU films because of Nolans vision and Snydar's direction.

Unfortunately for the DCEU, we never got not a single Green lantern standing with the Justice League. We never got Darkside. We never got a chance to see the Legion of Doom.

Robert Meyer Burnett explanation is just absolutely exquisitly true, precise and objective. Nothing to say more. Such a waste. The truth is their best sucess, aquaman, is more a MCU kind of movie than DC! and the movie is great and it is not even a great DC character because in comics, aquaman is not that interesting (beside few runs..) Nolan's batman was dark so it is not a question of tone neither. there is something else which is more around having a movie bringing either fun or solid plot to please.

Why do people find the need to be hateful toward the people that enjoyed the Snyder films & majority of The DCEU? It’s alright to have differing opinions. It’s okay to like something that others do not. It’s all subjective. Personally, I loved the trinity & Henry, as well as Affleck are my favorite iterations of the characters & should’ve gotten their respective follow up films. But it’s over. And I will cherish them. And it’s ok if you don’t feel the same way. We are all unique and our tastes as well.

Wonder Woman 1, Shazam 1, aquaman 1, suicide squad 2, and peacemaker were amazing, but it doesn’t matter how amazing he side characters are if u miss on the your big 3 characters
