Japanese cuisine has a long history stretching back thousands of years. In the city of Kanazawa on the Sea of Japan side, there's a restaurant serving recipes from the Edo period which were presented to Daimyo in banquets. What you see will shock you! Yes - there were Geisha / Geiko too. Join Kanae (my wife) and I for some dancing and drums.

What an incredible and gorgeous video, a literal feast for the eyes. It was a pleasant surprise to see chef Shijimaya speak English. A big thank you to him for making the effort to do so. Such an intimate evening of Japanese culture made even more captivating thanks to the academic historical perspective of food culture and the evolution of Japanese dining habits. It is such a privilege to be present at an establishment with such a great history and significance. It was great watching John and Kanae enjoying their experience and John having fun with the nuances of traditional fine dining. An awesome first effort John!

I realy felt like being actually with you on your visit to Kanazawa. The moment when we saw the reason for Kanaes supprised face was very funny. The effects you used for that spiced it all up. In the end when you speed up your dance moment, I felt like listening to the japanese Chipmunks. Well what I am actually trying to say was, that it was fun watching this Episode. Kanae played along very well. Big compliments to her as well.

Wow what great production quality. You seem to have picked up some new skills during the down time. So was the sword optional with the kimono or did you have to pay extra? 🤣 Did the make you take the sword off before dining? Was there a sword check-in? 🤣 Everything looks so delicious. I love the switch from action to informative throughout the video. It seems like a long time to be kneeling & I can see why you wanted to get up & dance! 6:50 OK... I was not expecting that bird. At 9:20 are those special bamboo serving chopsticks or decoration?

one thing I admire the Japanese food is that they make things look alive, although they are well cooked, such as that lobster!!!

A beautiful video! I really appreciated the introduction to "Gochisousama deshita" at the end. In these times when we remember the importance of essential workers, it seems most appropriate to think about the plants and animals that we eat and the many, many humans who raise them, harvest them, process them, transport them, sell them, buy them, prepare them, serve them - all for my meal (be it simple or fancy). I don't speak Japanese but I will try to honor the spirit of "Gochisousama deshita" at the table this week. Thank you, John!

You both looked amazing in this livestream. Loved how the food was presented. That's one of the most beautiful things that I loved about my visit to Japan last summer. The way food is treasured there is so wonderful! And of course... the taste! Heaven! ❤😊

6:45 I seriously thought that thing was alive! On a personal note, I just wanted to thank you for being such a positive, informative dude. I've been watching your channel for a while now and it's only gotten better and better. I've just started attending University (Major is East Asian Languages & Cultures, minor in Japanese) so this inspires me to push forward and become proficient in Japanese! I wish you and Kanae the best of luck!

I had a wonderful experience in Kanazawa when I did a study abroad program back in 2018! It was a lovely city with many great people. The history and traditions of that city were breathtaking! There is so much more there for you to discover, present, and show to the world John, as I'm sure you know! I'm very happy that you and Kanae had what looks like a wonderful time there. Keep up the great content, and best wishes with the new channel!

I love your videos and hope to use them as inspiration for my own trip to Japan. I was meant to go in 2021 but I don't really want to go during olympics so I hope to go in 2022. Your videos are always amazing and I always look forward to seeing new ones! I hope everything is going well with the transition between company channel to your own. Japan is one of my all time hopeful vacation locations! Hello from Ottawa Canada! Stay healthy!

I got married with my wife in 2019 (we've been together since 2007) and we visited Japan on our honeymoon (Osaka-Kyoto-Nara-Tokyo-Hanno). Already agreed that on our 10th anniversary we'd visit Japan again. But naturally it needs to be totally different from before. Kanazawa just hit the short-list :D Glad that I still have 8ish years to collect/plan for the next trip :) So keep the hints coming John. And thank you for the new stuff and adventures. Stay healthy.

Glad to see you back in your element John. I love seeing Kanae being a part of your show. Maybe there will be an episode where she shares her knowledge in something she knows more than you? I can actually see this becoming a husband and wife thing. Love it all!

Of course just me but I had some help with the camera and lighting in the dinner scene. We missed some of the audio which frustrated me - I wish I had cleaner audio, but i's still a nice story :) YES - you can see some interesting things int he video if you pause it at certain points. Arthell, Henry & Team D'ART SHTAJIO did an exceptional job!
