Thank you John and Peter for sharing this brilliant adventure, I absolutely loved this 2 part series. There is so much beauty in this part of the world that I one day hope to see for myself in person. I remember your winter livestream from Lake Akan 3 years ago and it was great to see it in a different season. There are so many highlights that you packed into this video but a particular one for me was seeing your return meeting with Melon Kuma, looks like you have a friend for life in him John. Excellent work gentleman, excellent. Best wishes to you both and your families.

Great video , it’s funny I was thinking about why no one goes to Hokkaido a few days ago, and then these videos pop up on my feed. I think people stay on the golden route because it’s easier to manage as being foreigners in Japan and not knowing the language. Not to mention lots of places require car to get to, and we foreigners can’t exactly read Japanese road signs off the plane. Haha.
@onlyinjapan
@onlyinjapan Жыл бұрын
I understand why the Golden Route is so popular, there’s a lot of culture and sights and as humans, we want to share and imitate. But I do hope people venture off the trail at least once or in their second visit. Places like Hokkaido are so worth it, esp in summer when Kyoto is like a sauna, hot and humid. It’s amazing up north!

We thought Hokkaido is cooler than Tokyo, but never imagined that cold‼️ It was around 25℃ in Sapporo, so we only took summer clothes but we had to buy jackets in Kushiro. The hotel we stayed used heater at night and a/c was not necessary at all. If you’d like to escape from hot, humid summer in other parts of Japan, this is the place to go❗️😄

That was a lot of fun. I totally get about not going too far in any give stretch...esp on a bike. I used to drive for a living - emergency blood courier - in SoCal. I averaged probably 225 miles a day...on the freeways. I've taken trips by car all over California. The last time I was going to a retreat at Mt. Shasta which in the 'good ole days I'd have done in a day no biggie. I booked 3 rooms on the way up. My body can't take it like it used to. The good news is that I could stop all the places I wanted to and take a TON of photographs, which is my happy place. So yes, take more time, go a little slower, make less plans - and be open to what comes. That's the way I've taken my vacations over the last 20+ years. John I've watched all the vids you've posted on this channel and liked them all. 👍But it's been this 2 part'r with Peter that I feel like I was watching 'What I did on my summer vacation' by two good friends. It's probably because you two are such good friends and that just came through so clearly. This was my first real experience of Peter...aside from his excellent voice over work. 😄. Your chemistry really works well together. I liked the adventures of this trip. (John I'm very glad you survived your first bike ride.) Seriously. I really enjoyed all the scenery and nature and bears - oh my. My favorite parts, though were the Ainu portions. Of all the things I'd like to see in and around Japan, visiting the Ainu is at the top of the list. Thanks for taking us along for the ride and the fun. Looking forward to the next one.
