This is how I built a $1,000,000 luxury pool in Westlake, Austin, Texas. This 35-foot-tall concrete structure was designed to capture breathtaking downtown Austin views. The process of building this extraordinary pool was intense to put things lightly
This pool was constructed over seven months during the peak of Texas summer heat. A massive amount of steel rebar and high-strength concrete was required to support the structure's immense size and complexity. The pool itself will sit on top of this build.
The construction process was highly technical, involving five separate concrete pours. Four were dedicated to creating rebar-reinforced retaining walls, ensuring the structure's stability on the hillside. The final phase utilized a volumetric concrete truck to apply shotcrete, expertly shaping the pool's form. Each step required meticulous planning and execution to achieve the perfect balance of strength and beauty.
Heavy machinery played a vital role in bringing this vision to life. An excavator was essential for site preparation, while boom pump concrete trucks handled the precise placement of concrete. The volumetric concrete truck allowed for on-site mixing and efficient shotcrete application, crucial for crafting the pool's final form.
If you're captivated by luxury construction and the engineering feats behind it, this video reveals the incredible journey of building a pool unlike any other.

@@johngioffrebuilds I used to be a real-estate appraiser. What I found is that clients never understood that what is added to the property will not provide a dollar-for-dollar value. They would think a $50,000 shop added to the property would increase their value by $50,000. I would say they would probably see 10 - 20% return on that investment. It ruffled a lot of feathers for sure.

It would cost like 50k where I live in Europe at most to recreate this with the local construction company and a bit more extra to work together with pool specialists. We just built a 4 story 40 room studio apartment complex for the middle class with 2 huge penthouses on the top a few years ago for 3 mil with 100x times more concrete than this and if I remember right 40 tonnes of steel but could be more it wasn't my project personally. The 100 meter crane which moved the prefabricated conrete panels costed a 1000$/day which required cement trucks with pumps to fill even more concrete inside them later. The crane was there for around a 100 days and the crowns which held the slabs and the structure together came from Italy to Germany. There was 8 cement trucks pumping concrete for months and each turn costed around 250$. Concrete and steel must be more expensive in the US than gold or something if this is 1 mil. I guess the workers make six figures thats why its so expensive, no? Its not the case here. I am curious why is this pool 1 mil alone as this just looks like the same materials, same techniques mostly we used.

First off, great job on the build. The value added to the home is the fact that not many people would take on a project like this. It's a different and somewhat rare setup for a pool, but it's convenient for the homeowner to just walk straight out to the pool. Thats worth 1mil to them. Also, that amount of money for them is probably the same as 30-60k for an average pool for the average person.

Heck of a complicated build lots of steel. Great job so far, I would hire your firm in a NewYork minute. Looking forward to seeing finished structure. I prefer gunite, more old school and expensive but gunite is bulletproof and unmatched for strength, resistance to cracks, and durability. It's nice to see an over a top job done correctly without any cut corners. Ray

2:15 Solid limestone so no aquifer? So the pool supports itself and anchors the house/ additions to the hill?
@johngioffrebuilds
@johngioffrebuilds Ай бұрын
Right on all but the pool anchoring the house. The house is also sitting on solid limestone so it’s doing a great job of supporting its house. The pool is about 10’ from the house but it will have a deck and covered porch connecting them. The addition will be connected to the house. Thanks for watching!!!

I spoke about wood. Here's an initial plan: Take a number of arbutus trees. Do not delimb (and their residual bark is core to their beauty). Their wood is rather strong but it warps as it dries. No problem.. Build an arbutus "grove" and let it finish drying. Could take a year. Deck the surface with a shallow dome. add under slab insulation to break the bond and provide expansion. The concrete ends up thicker where your structural engineer says (a two-way cantilever with a domed center AND vertical sections like suspension bridges use gives him/her a lot of levers to play with). Your structural engineer (or one who does skyscrapers) would have a blast designing the counterweight (earthquakes are more fun when you get to see the mechanics work). Would I have won a quarter if it was a real bet?
@RePeteAndMe
@RePeteAndMe Ай бұрын
I doubt the drying matters much. Arbutus trees come pre-warped (another core piece of their beauty). Tall trees with character reaching up to a ceiling that adds even more reverence... I'd name it after Cathedral Grove on Vancouver Island. One heck of a baptismal pool, eh?
