Breckenridge Vs. Park City

Breckenridge is for the person looking for the fun after the skiing is done, and crazy high altitudes. Park City is for the family with the bigger budget, and the skier who wants more skiable acres and better snow. And oh yeah Sun Dance.

As a Colorado native, but someone who has lived for 20 years now in Utah, I've skied plenty of resorts in both states. Park City is expensive as crap, but there are reasons for that. It is far more than just a ski town. Sundance puts it on the map in a new way and it attracts a lot of high end people from LA up to it year round. I haven't skied at Breck but I have been in the town and it's great too. I don't think one is better than the other. They are different. Park City resort is unbelievably massive. Like it's hard to describe just how huge it is. Both are crowded. Utah has amazing snow, but CO tends to get more and the season lasts longer... I call it even. Just depends on what you personally are looking for. There are really affordable places to eat in Park City, on Main St even, that aren't serving cafeteria pizza. There's an Irish pub about 2/3 the way up the hill that is incredible. Can't recall the name right now, but an early dinner for 3 cost us less than $20 a person total and it was stick to your ribs, home cooking and flavorful. Trendy places like the ones you showed in Park City are expensive in Breck too. So again, I call them even, it is just preference.

@@MrObservationMan I live at the base of Snowbird and in all honesty, the inversion almost never gets to PC. Sucks that you had that 3 out of 6 days. That's just nuts! Almost unbelievable. Those odds are like the 'inversion' of winning the lottery. In all honesty, the only time I go to PC is when I'm booked to guide at one of the resorts. My favorite for inbounds is by far Snowbird and favorite for side country is Solitude. I moved from NY to call Snowbird my home mountain.

Both are special places and think you've summed it up well. PC is so easy to get to - 35 minutes from SLC and rarely any traffic. I 70 from Denver to the Mountains can be a real nightmare from time to time. PC is pricier particularly if you need to be on main street to eat and sleep. There are good dining options closer to Kimball Junction - although you loose the charm of old town PC. Again, balanced perspective!

There are a lot of cheap places in park city you just have to go a few times and get recommendations from locals. Davanza’s is a really cool bar. Boneyard is great. Sammys bistro. El Chubasco. Ghidottis. Wasatch Bagel. Those are all reasonably priced places with great food and atmospheres.

The true answer is to just follow the snow and see who's getting hit hardest... and go there! I've lived in both towns for multiple seasons and know each mountain perfectly. Both share so many characteristics, yet are so very different. Breck has better steeps and more extreme terrain BUT Park City has some goods too and is 1 short hour's drive from Little Cottonwood Canyon... so if Expert terrain is what you're after, there is no comparison. Breck and A-Basin certainly have great steeps, and the best in Summit County CO... but they're just not Alta and Snowbird.

The air quality of SLC doesn't affect Park City. There are plenty of Airbnb type rentals in Park City that are very cheap, just not right in town. In addition to Park City / Canyons and Deer Valley in the PC area, there are Big (Brighton, Solitude) and Little (Alta, Snowbird) Cottonwood Canyons, Sundance to the south and the ski areas around Ogden. All are very close by. I live in PC. I would highly recommend everyone go to Breckenridge!

I have commuted from the Pacific NW to both places for years. Both have been my home resorts in different years. Park City has my vote for cheaper lodging, quicker access from the airport, free slope side parking and groomed black runs. It’s also easier for me to hide in the Canyons vs peak 6 or 10. More S.P.O.R.E.S at Breck than PC unless you go to Deer Valley. Down side with PC is that 4/13 or 14 season closure.

Both are great trips. Both have great skiing. Feel like the apres is better at Breck, sitting on the deck at The Maggie. Also the best margaritas are the Cadillac margarita at the aptly named Ritas in Breck. 20 bucks but half price on Sundays so it'll only be 30 bucks for the three you will drink. High West is great, absolutely love their whiskey but good luck getting a table. And good luck getting a table anywhere during the film festival week- many places are rented out for private parties all week long. It is one of the best weeks to be on the mountain skiing, though. Great video. Will be out in Breck in a month. Dreading the altitude but looking forward to some sunny spring skiing.

I've been to both multiple times. For me, it's Breck hands down. Better bowls, better glades, more vertical, and better town. Park City always just felt like a massive East Coast mountain to me. Definitely fun, but if you like the steeps and the glades like I do, go to Breck. If you must be in Utah and want to ski a wild mountain go to Snowbird, THAT is a helluva steep mountain and the snow is second to none.

Born and raised in Chicago here. I’ve been to both Breck and PC. I love the Bivvi. For the best value overall. I feel that Breck is better. There are always well priced flights out of Chicago to Denver. And I get a cheap bed at the Bivvi and I’m good to go. The food as well as everything overall in Breck is better priced than at PC. I don’t mind car rental from Denver to Breck esp since all the other savings make it doable.

I think both are great, and I generally agree with the video. However, I've never once wasted a nickel of my money or a second of my time thinking about the sushi at either place. And, did this guy really review someone's Ramen noodles? I think Breck gets the edge, because I find the whole area & vibe cooler. And, it definitely gets the edge if you're staying for an extended period of time. I like to scoot over to Vail for at least one day, and to Keystone for another (all good to ski with your one lift ticket). And, I like a day of snowmobiling too. All are easily accessible from Breck, and will add layers of fun to your trip. And like the guy on the video says, the Apres Ski scene is better in Breck. Cooler town, better bars, better beers. Better pancakes in the a.m. Although Jackson Hole has them beat for waffles. The ONLY advantage I give Park City is on the slopes, but I kinda feel that is negated IF you take my advice and mix up your days with outings to both Vail and Keystone.

Got to be kidding me. You haven't searched well enough if Red Banjo is your example. Red Banjo is basically a landmark. It's been there forever. You don't go there for the pizza my friend. And what an idiotic thing to delete a point over. The air quality is only like that every once in a while, as a matter of fact I just looked it up and the Denver AQI is 56 right now, Salt Lake is 32. The bad days come when a high pressure comes in and holds all the air in, it's in a bowl. Not just cars, but also fireplaces. And Park City is up the mountain from there, it's always great. Breck party scene is fun though, when I wasn't an adult, and I wore pants down to my knees and a lakers jersey in the winter without a coat. Thats Breck. Crazy, drunk, obnoxious, ski bums (and not the smart kind), and frat bro's from Philly. And where did you get an asinine idea you can't ski PC in March?? March can be an amazing month. Last year it got pounded with storms, but if not it's amazing spring skiing.
@MrObservationMan

Brandon Adams res banjo was not a example of a pizza place. It was a example of cheaper food in park city. I went to 3 different pizza places. 2 were to expensive. One was crap. Sorry dude. Park city food is to expensive was my point. And that is a important point.

I prefer the terrain at Breck. More open bowls, better tree skiing, and the snow remains good well into mid to late April. Park City also requires a lot of traversing, especially the old Canyons area and while having similar vertical numbers, Park City's vert is not constant. Breckenridge's historic mining town also takes top accolades for charm. PC seems smaller and more generic. The only drawbacks to Breck are the crowds (PC is also crowded) and the oxygen deprivation.
