I thought I would do a reflective video on the Switch turning 7 years old as I have owned one for the duration of that time and give you my thoughts. After watching the video, feel free to comment below about your experiences with the Switch. Thanks for watching!

The Switch is my favorite system. I came to the Switch from the PS3, another console in which I loved. The game library is unmatched. I’ll be playing Switch games for the next 20 years…long after the life of it is finished.

See, I see people say this all the time but as someone who owns all 3 platforms I can tell you that you can play most of those same games at higher frametate and better graphics on the other two platforms not to mention way more.

Yeah the NS reminds me of a portable ps3.. I really stuck with it after starting with the Lite and graduating to the OLED.. I wasn’t even gonna get one originally but I was missing strategy oriented games like Fire Emblem & Civ which had just released for it at the time.. But before that not counting portables I hadn’t had a Nintendo home console since the SNES

I have absolutely loved the Switch - it's had so many great games and really was the first modern console I felt a strong attachment to and really enjoyed collecting physical for it. It just feels like a 'Nintendo console' done right - the games in general, the feel, the fun - everything

Who needs the Switch when the 3DS just keeps getting better and better. With the Red Viper app, I am now playing all the Virtual Boy games in full 3D with an optional color palette swap. If red bothers you, change the display color to green or blue or gray.

I never got the Switch since I play on PlayStation and currently I'm still on the PS4. I want to get a PS5 of course, but I've always considered getting a Switch; mainly for its exclusives.

If you like playing in handheld mode I highly recommend the hori split pad compact, it's super comfortable compared to the joy-cons

Way excited about the Battlefront games! I think this last year will see some good stuff on the Switch, and hopefully a price drop so they can keep up system sales. The new system needs to come out at the current price and be backwards compatible if they want to carry the momentum.

It's a shame, but things are no longer made to last longer, Nintendo was known for that, but today it's all about "cutting costs" and Nintendo doesn't sell systems at a loss. I had modest collections of games in the past that I painfully had to sell, but the Switch with its re-releases and remasters has allowed me the opportunity to once again collect games that I missed dearly. It's hard for me to put it over my loved Game Boy or my NES, but for sure it is in my top 5 of Systems. Thanks John, great video! There’s so many great games on Switch, you know it’s just going to be a console to collect for. Right now I’m just buying up games I’ve put off buying and playing games I thought I’d never play like Kirby and the Forgotten land- great game btw.

I remember being 9 years old when the Switch first released. Now I’m 16. As for the Switch 2 I’d say it will probably release around March 2025 or maybe later in April or even September-November. This year will probably still see a fair amount of new games for the Switch, but it’s clear that Nintendo is not putting all their eggs in one basket and is instead keeping their biggest games for the Switch 2 most likely next year. The Switch will probably beat the PS2 in sales, it’s already at 140+ Million and the PS2 sold roughly 158 Million, so it’s very likely if the Switch lasts another 3-ish years and especially if it receives a price cut and possibly a new model that’s cheaper.

My original Switch also developed the problem of having a really loud fan. Could be heard across the room, a room or two over, even up the stairs if you listened. Nintendo agreed on the phone that it was loud, set up a repair order. Got it back, with a slip saying that they could find no problem; it seemed to be working fine to them, with no issues. However, probably the first thing (and probably only thing, since it wasn't loud for them) they tried was a software reset, and when I plugged it back into my TV... there was no problem. All of my data was obviously gone, but so was the excessive fan noise. I have no idea how a software problem, which I would assume was mostly just one system update after another adding up over time could have done it, but somehow it did. If you haven't tried yet and if you're able to, try a system reset and see if your fan problems go away.

You hit all the critical points of Switch problems. I’m the type of person to not really focus on small hiccups in terms of quality but with the Switch, the issues are plentiful and glaring. I think this is a big reason why the biggest Switch and Nintendo fanatics are fiending for successor news. I have enough games on it for a lifetime of gaming but I still want all of the issues addressed ie in a neatly packaged Switch 2 revamp. At best, the joycons are not good…. Nintendo is extremely lucky the thing was a huge success. I suppose… their games are just that good! ❤

It’s a wonderful console with great games still want a HD windwaker, would love more Metroid Prime games. As I get older I don’t care as much of having the latest tech / graphics. Yes some games look older but I still play them because of handheld mode The reality of my life is I play the game docked my wife and or kids want to watch something on the main tv and I take if off the dock and play in handheld mode. I bought the hori pad for hand held and it works great. I am happy that Nintendo has survived and thrived in the market because they are at heart a game company. ❤

I don't have interest in the Switch, but it was funny when you said your wifi wasn't very good. My phone was getting a weak wifi signal, and I got tired of it, so I relocated my router to a central location and mounted it on a wall, near the ceiling. The antenna is perpendicular to the wall, and now the phone wifi icon is constantly at full strength.

It's been a little ironic for myself too. While I have a PS5 my main gaming system is the Nintendo Switch. Thankfully no issues with cracks or the fan with my switch🤞 though I also play mostly docked rather then portable. The game library is incredible though like you said a ton of shovel where you have to wade through to find the good indie games 70% of the time. I have no issues with the age of the Switch as long as I get great games to play on it and it continues to work fine. Funny though that while I had to replace my Xbox 360 and Xbox One I've never had to replace any of my Nintendo consoles from the Game Cube up.

I enjoyed my Wii U and had mixed feelings about moving on from my under appreciated console but I had high expectations for the Switch. Upon purchase of the Switch I found it to be uncomfortable to hold, the GUI was inferior to previous two consoles and the “eShop” was less than stellar to successfully navigate, for me at least. I don’t hate my Switch but I don’t use it much. I do feel for Nintendo the Switch was the right console at the right time, just not my cup of tea, cheers

The switch is my favourite system of all time period it saved me from turning my back on modern gaming when I was still playing my Sega Genesis/mega drive the switch convinced me to move on from that because before that I had a PS4, but I just didn’t like it maybe to do my age, but I just couldn’t drive with the games that I had I sold it or rather traded it in for some switch games, Super Mario, Odyssey and Zelda breath of the wild and shortly got my switch OD afterwards and I couldn’t be happier. This all happened in 2023 when the switch was just over 6 1/2 years old now, the switch is approaching it seventh year on the market for me there, too life in the old switch yet it’s still a great system and there’s a stall. Do I get for playing Sega Genesis/mega games, super Nintendo and GBA and gameBoy games, I just can’t get that with any other system. I have a much deeper connection with Nintendo having had more of their systems than any other system going back to the NES. The switch is still an awesome system and yet people still underestimate it I’ve had my switch for nearly 5 months and it’s still amazes me and surprises me and it’s the most fun I’ve had in gaming for a long long time I’m looking forward to switch 2. I hate the word underpowered. The thing is the switch was designed to showcase Nintendo‘s own games first and foremost, so it’s powerful enough for that and I really don’t think it should be compared to any other system to switches its own beast, it’s powerful enough, yes it may be starting to show its age a bit But that’s normal. The technology inside the switches is very old. I mean the original GameBoy was was super underpowered compared to the game gear, but you know what it’s made up for it and wilder switch is two generations behind in terms of graphics and performance. It makes up for it with its game library, so can we just all celebrate the switch for it is and not complaining too much about how it’s beginning to show its age, it’s not nice to hear that as a recent owner of switch OLED, but I get it. The switch is coming to the end of its life cycle, great video and retrospective of the Yntendo switch..

I recently purchased the OLED model, and I agree about the weak wi-fi antenna. I have a hard time getting a good wireless signal. $350 is a good chunk of change - it should have better Wi-Fi performance.

If Nintendo is waiting on Star Fox for the next console, I really hope they employed Treasure again to make another Sin and Punishment game. The one for the Wii is probably one of my favorite shooters ever. Franchise needs a little more love and representation now a days.

A lot I think. It will go strong due to userbase. Next to impossible for Nintendo for a repeat, mostly keep the userbase and developers engaged in the next machine. I would never have thought back in March 2017 that this machine would be my main system.

I think the Switch is Nintendo's best system since the Game Boy Advance. As far as the system's power goes, I'm pretty much over the idea of graphics getting better and have been since the PS2 days. The next Nintendo system does need to have better quality controllers, though. My first Switch Pro Controller lasted about 5 years and then the left stick started drifting. I bought another one and it had drift out of the box brand new, so I returned it and changed to an 8bitdo SN30 controller instead. That works just as well as the Switch Pro Controller but it can't turn the system on. I've had my Switch since 2018 and it's working great still. The Joycons are definitely not great, I agree.

When the switch came out, my xbox and ps4 were pretty much never used again. I'm a parent and have little time for games so 100 percent of my time is on an easy to grab Nintendo switch. The ps and xboxs are not consoles anymore they are PC's with no storage capacity and annoying updates that take ages to install just as you want to play for 30 mins.

I just got a switch OLED as a Christmas gift so I am extremely late to the party. But I think what's left for this console which I feel in my opinion Nintendo is sitting on waiting to release for the switch before they release their new console and what I personally would like to see released on the current switch is Metroid prime 2 and 3 remastered and Metroid prime 4 which is and was supposed to be released on the current switch. and Zelda windwaker and twilight princess remastered on the current console. I think if Nintendo released those games on the current switch that would be a great way for Nintendo to close out the life cycle of the current switch before they release the new switch system.

Hopefully the Switch can deliver a few late stage games that break the mold and stray away from the fps, metroidvania, rpg, shoot 'em up (can't believe I said that since I love a good shoot 'em up), farming/fishing genres and deliver something different. I liked the experimentation with Arms, Snipper Clippers, and, 1-2 Switch (admittedly that barely qualifies as a game). Here's hoping for a bit more experimentation before the end and not just yet another Mario game. Edit: Great system though, got me to buy a new console since the PS1.

The sad part is all of copies of asset flips and super low effort "games" that are even allowed on there. Less than 1000 of those titles are worth playing. Switch, Super Pocket/Evercade VS, Steamdeck, Mega Drive mini systems are my favs.

Best thing I did was buy a second pro controller very early on, as one runs out I swap to the other fully charged and then repeat. Both still in great condition as I'm stretching the life span of each one. And yeah the joycons suck. 😉

What you say about Nintendo being known for lack of power is not really true and is moreso a stigma. They left the 'power' competition after the Gamecube failed. The GC was actually more powerfull than the PS2 but Nintendo saw the lack in sales as a reason to go with a 'Blue Ocean' strategy as they call it for the console generation after it This resulted in 'Project Dolphin' AKA the Wii. The Wii was a beefed up GC and this effected its longevity as HD gaming was already on the rise with the 'PS360' side of that era which made PC style games more accessable aswel. They tried to play 'catch up' with the WiiU but that was also underpowered as the PS4/XB1 was again a significant jump and meeting a better stability formfactor for HD gaming. Too be honest i dont think the Switch is that much overpowered when it comes to pure gameplay. Sony and Microsoft has educated consumers to always go for realistic graphics where Sony can now shamelesly pre-announce a PS6 saying the PS5 life cycle is almost over (it barely started😂) like they are selling mobilephones.

You got to think a lot of those games are not original releases. The remakes, remastered, etc do not count in the library but that's just my opinion.

i was also in doubt that the Switch was gonna be any good, but by god it's the best thing next to a Gaming PC. idk if the Switch is going anywhere anytime soon, considering we've heard nothing of a Switch 2 and the latest direct had a bunch of games coming out in 2024. tbh with you after the failure of the Wii U, maybe they want to ride the profit wagon a little longer and wait until they can vastly improve the Switch before announcing the Switch 2, as Nintendo hasnt been just shilling out sequels of it's IPs unless they can do something significant with their IPs, so maybe they adopted that philosophy into consoles and not just IPs.

As much as I think 3 fire emblem titles on a single console (4 realistically) would be a bit much, engage was a joke and three houses attempt to emulate persona with tedious busywork held it back a lot. There's a gossip going on about fe4 remake. The famicom original may be the most rich game of the franchise so that would be a nice swansong for the switch.

Do you think the hard workers at Nintendo would like to make games on a Switch 2 that had the features of a 2024 PC? Not taking into consideration of the price it would cost to sell. Working on old hardware from them seems like it would get old.

The newest installment of Contra is the best example of Switch being too weak and unattractive for developers. Of course, similar games look and play much better, Prince of Persia is the best instance, but it’s about time Nintendo finally released a new system. Let’s be honest here, upcoming titles from their stable look completely unappealing.

I think you need to understand the definition of maxed out for me. The switch will only be maxed up when Nintendo discontinues it. Yes the hardware is old but it’s still a fantastic system that still has life left in it.

I think handheld gaming works better with 2D stuff. I'm not a fan of portable 3D gaming. Portable systems are lacking in ergonomics and with the Joycons the analog sticks are not good. The PSP didn't have a good analog stick, either, and I never did truly enjoy controlling DS/3DS games with the touchscreen. I think the Dual Shock was the last controller that felt like a necessary update to what came before.

Awesome system. Some games like Cruisin Blast or Ultra SF2 are exclusive for the Switch. It gets better every year.
