One of my favorite Beatle solo albums, and a good follow up to All Things Must Pass. I bought it when it came out in 1973 and played the heck out of it. I bought the 2 CD version and I’m really looking forward to enjoying it again 50+ year later.

An excellent album, and I'm looking forward to getting this. George was no more a hypocrite than most of us. He states his religious views, but at no point does he claim perfection or sainthood for himself. I hope my local Media Markt will stock it!

Yes exactly, it's clear here that George was struggling to reconcile his love of the material world with the spiritual one he aspired to. It's a profound album because that's the struggle that we all inhabit while here on earth. There is no hypocrisy in it whatsoever.

8 copies!! Crazy guy John. Ha ha!! Is that the most copies you’ve got of any album? I liked the album when it first came out back in 73(?) mainly because, as you say, it was more intimate than ATMP. Ultimately though for me over time it hasn’t aged as well as an album. But Give Me Love and Be Here Now are two gems that I’ll always love. Thanks John.

Bought the double vinyl version yesterday after realising that the vinyl album covers in the super deluxe boxset are actually made of a lightweight paper material, instead of a heavy quality cardboard cover that we expect an album cover to be made of.

If you look through the individual song listings on Wikipedia (if it's accurate) Ringo plays on: "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long," "Living in the Material World," "The Day the World Gets 'Round"

Great video John . I have similar aspirations to cut down purchases , but only the other day I walked into my local shop aand bought the hard days night white vinyl - and album I already have 5 versions of 😂🤦‍♂️ Thanks for the heads up on the living Material world content - I’ll probably get the double cd . Defo Ringo on the title track - doing his best “ Get Back “ part !

Immensely appreciate your review & thoughts about the remix and the quality of each song. ( when I first listened to the outtakes & heard; “Try Some, Buy Some”. I smiled with delight hearing this alternate take with that beautiful fluid slide. Overall a delight to listen to this remix & fabulous outtakes. PS- glad you also mentioned the 2006 box set, time to revisit that set as well.

"Try Some Buy Some" sounds so much better without the Spector Wall of Sound and with the extra slide guitar!!! It also sounds more in tune with the rest of the album. It was always my least-favorite track on the album but I actually like it now. This is the definitive version for me.

I’ve got the double vinyl version of LITMW and I’ve ordered the purple single version too 😮. This is such a great album. I feel it pushes ATMP as his best solo album, to many Beatle fans think George’s solo is all ATMP and don’t look beyond it, which is a shame because this and the self titled George Harrison album, 33&1/3/ and brainwashed are all really good albums too. My favourite track of this album is Be Here Now it’s such an amazing song with a haunting melody sung with such feeling, it’s George at his best.

I think the new remix sounds very good. This is one of my favorite George harrison albums. In the box set, it says who plays on each track. Ringo plays on don't let me wait too long, living in the material world, the day the world gets round and of course, sunshine life for me.

Hard to Fill the Shoes of ALL THINGS MUST PASS . George never did after that Masterpiece. But Living in the Material World was a Great Followup. I love this record. ❤ I bought it the Day it was released back in 1973 . Looking forward to the new Release. George did some really Tasteful Guitar Work on this record. I liked the fact he took Sole quarter duties on the record. Ringo is on board with Nicky Hopkins backing George.

It was delayed by his involvement with the Bangladesh album and film. ATMP came out Nov 70 and Living in the Material World not till May 73. It’s a good album , not so many great songs as ATMP. Glad you mentioned Nicky Hopkins a fine under rated player whose beautiful piano is all over this album. Be Here Now is incredibly beautiful almost meditative and Give me Love is superb. Love the name checking of John Paul and Ritchie on the title track , even though they were going through a lot of business and litigation stress at the time.

@@johnheaton5667 If Harrison had just taken out 2 of the slow, serious ballads (there's already a surfeit of them on the album)--say, "Who Can See It" and "Try Some Buy Some"--and replaced them with "Miss O'Dell" and "Sunshine Life For Me", LITMW would have been perfectly balanced between light and heavy.

Hi John, nice video as always, and thank you for the shout out.. I agree with you that George’s lyrics to “Sue You, Sue Me Blues” are quite clever and well written. My issue with the song is the deliberately dull and monotonous melody that he uses to convey the tediousness and boredom of the situation described - which is not conducive (for me) to repeated listens. Although I personally continue to find “Living In The Material World” to be an uneven record, it’s enjoyable to hear your enthusiastic review and positive feelings toward the album - maybe someday I’ll come around… Take care.. Thomas Calden..

Two mediocre albums by artists who were way below the level they were hyped to be at. None of the four would have gotten anywhere had their careers begun in 1970, on a solo basis.

I'll take "Extra Texture " over this one. If "Living in the Material World " isn't preachy, there is no use for the term. And I don't know how anyone listens to George's preaching if they know how his life reflected something 180 degrees from his sermons. But I guess people tolerate his hypocrisy more than I do.

Harrison's weak voice and girly falsettos are nerve-wrecking. It would only get worse, but we're dished out more than enough of that rubbish in this record. C'mon, will you try to convince me you don't cringe when George whinges "And that is oh-ooh-all I'm waiting for, your love and nuthin' more" by the end of "That Is All"? Lennon was getting progressively and annoyingly feminised by this time too, thanks to Yoko Anal's sinister influence; witness, on the bland "Mind Games" botch from around the same time as this dud, the irritating kitty-kat sissy voice in "One Day at a Time". By the time Chapman ("Someone, the devil's best friend, somebody who offended all") did his awful deed, Lennon was almost wearing skirts. His voice on "Woman" sounds as if he's singing about himself! Both Harrison & Lennon lost their voices in their solo years. Paradoxically, George sounds the least bad on "Dark Hoarse", when his throat was sore as hell. Lennon, IMO, sounds best on "Scared" in "Walls & Bridges", arguably the best solo Beatle album.
