Easy To Make Locking TV Mounting Bracket

John Heisz - I Build It

Just a quick video showing how I made a simple mounting bracket that locks the TV in place. I used a single strip of 3/4" plywood and 1" long cap bolts that fit the treaded inserts in the back of the unit.
The routed grooves don't have to be perfect, just close enough and you can make adjustments when mounting the strip on the wall to make up for inaccuracies.
These TV's are very light, so this is more than adequate support. If mounting something heavier you should use all four bolts, but that makes layout a lot more difficult. My wall is OSB (not drywall) so I can just screw into that. On drywall, you need to drive the screws into strong anchors or into the wall studs.
Obviously there's no angle or tilt adjustment with this - you get what you pay for - but it is perfect if you just want the TV flat on the wall.

Well, you could put bolts into the two bottom holes on the back of the TV and screw them in or out to give you a tilt adjustment.

An interesting idea for sure. I would say that a French cleat is quicker and easier though, and you can have a bit more room for moving the TV left and right when using French Cleat.

The problem about being smarter than your average You Tube poster is when you try it it must be smart .Your idea is not as it could lift of too easily .Now if you had suggested a double French cleat to stop it lifting then I would have been impressed .Sadly I think you are just a troll.
@ksp1278
@ksp1278 3 жыл бұрын
@@briansephton8777 Why would the TV lift off? I don't know about you, but I never touch my TV once it's mounted. I have mounted my own TV using a French cleat that I made out of scrap wood and it's been fine. I was not trolling. Simply providing feedback that I thought his idea, whilst interesting, is not the simplest way to do it. I bet you have never made anything in your life.

@@ksp1278 I understand what you are saying. I did the same with our TV in the living room by getting some shelf metals and using a french cleat to mount it to the wall. As you mentioned it provides good adjutablity to the sides and it's plenty secure for the job.

My son needed to buy a tv as a planned research for a scouting merit badge, learning to shop wisely. Instead of buying an expensive wall bracket, I taught him about the French cleat system, so all we needed was longer bolts and to the tablesaw we went. Works great!

Very cool. My friends called me crazy when I built my own wall mount bracket last year. I really don't get why people are afraid to try something on their own. I mean their houses are made from wood and they don't worry about them falling down. Also, I have to do that vertical router bit storage. So handy. I'm a bit jealous that you have a TV in your shop.

Interesting, I only wonder if hanging it on 2 of the bolts is enough. What is the force on there. Maybe using two french cleats would give more stability and even ability to shift it to the left or right a bit.
@ejthompson4950
@ejthompson4950 3 жыл бұрын
Valid question, but I just hung some 55" TVs and they weighed maybe 20-25lbs, on a static load like that, the 2 bolts he's using are going to be WAY more than you'd need to support that.
@AndyD89
@AndyD89 3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t think that the weight of the TV could be taken by only 2 of the 4 fixings. I thought that VESA mounts were intended to spread the load over the 4 fixings. I suppose if that was a concern then you could use two so that you’d use all 4 fixings
@AndyD89
@AndyD89 3 жыл бұрын
The other thing is those fixings on the back of the TV sometimes aren’t as strong as they could/should be. I have had a problem with that in the past. I guess it depends on the exact model
