To provide a bit of backstory on this comment, Gus is a coworker of mine. He was yelling at one of the other express technicians today and then as he finished yelling a big glob of drool came slangin out of his mouth. #babygus

You need to check the bearing/diff preload when you install a new diff like that. It can mess up the bearings and or diff possibly or the case is the transmission of you don’t check it and shim it properly
@JohnDoe-cs5uo Жыл бұрын
How does one do that? I'm curious to know when installing mine.
@schmikels_garage Жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-cs5uo put the diff in put the case on n put a few bolts in and have axle seal out of the top case you put on and put the feeler gauge between the bearing n the shim in the case I think spec is .001-.010 but not 100% should look that up

I recently bought a transmission with a Cusco diff swapped in, clearance not checked. 0.05mm to tight and its caused issues with the diff bearings.
@jimhiscott2918 Жыл бұрын
Never use old diff bearings. Next time you remove the speedo ring set it upside-down on a table, apply heat to it and it will fall off on its own. And last put your diff in a dry ice cooler. The NEW bearing will fall on. Heat is the number one enemy of a bearing

Great video. Although if anyone is watching do not spin a hot bearing. Its can make flat spots on the balls and prolong the life of the bearing.

I had pulled the trans out from a d17 to change a bearing or 2 and I messed up the placement of neutral so when I put it back in the car all the gears had resistance and I wasn't able to even shift into 5th or reverse (I had some guy do it for me). Helpful video tho, will be looking at this for reference 👍

I actually pulled the trans out like 4 times but only opened it one time. I been sold that car and now I have a 99 EX Coupe 5 speed.
