It's my understanding that John Lobb is the very top of the food chain for mens shoes...and that there are 2 types of manufacture, the first and absolute top of the line, known as "bespoke", completely custom made in every respect, and secondly "ready to wear", also hand made but not custom, but still fabulous shoes...and is it true, that the bare minimum for any of their shoes, starts at about $1000..US...plus let me add as well, this was a wonderful tutorial on proper shoe care...well done indeed

daniel lack Well of course there are many more brands in England that are as good as John Lobb (i.e, Eward Green,G Cleverly, etc). Their ready to wear line consist of at least two lines, the standard that start at a minimum of $1000US and the prestige line which starts at $1700US. Bespoke however, starts at $6000US minimum for the first pair, but the consecutive pairs will cost less. Re-soling these shoes are a bit of a pain regarding price.

Can anyone please help to explain the differences between mink oil, saddle soap, shoe creme, and normal kiwi shoe polish?
@i.o.35638 жыл бұрын
+jimmypetelol saddle soap - cleaning product. Very much like ordinary soap for hands. You use it to cleanse the shoe. Mink oil is an animal fat that is not very much recommended on expensive shoes as after using it you will feel problems with shining the shoes. The difference between Kiwi and Lobb shoe polish is like.. well Lobb's is just a premium quality one, just like their shoes: formula contain higher quality components. Cream is more liquid form of wax polish and is better for nourishment, gives more colour. Wax polish provides more shine and protection. Both are nourishing and you may use just one or both. First you apply cream in that case.

I was under the impression that a shoe cream is preferable over a polish. The explanation being that a wax doesn't penetrate the skin as well as a cream and actually dries it out. Right? Wrong?
@frankieboyo19697 жыл бұрын
True a cream is preferable over a polish (mainly hard wax)/ Hard waxes only block moisture coming out the exterior of the leather. It won't actively dry the leather out It's just that it doesn't add moisture and won;t stop moisture being lost via the interior of the shoe. If you leave shoes unworn for ages without conditioning them they'll dry out, much like hidebound books in a library.
@paulm2467 Жыл бұрын
He uses a cream first then polishes it and says that if you’re happy with that level of shine you can stop there however if you want shinier shoes you need wax. They are different products for different purposes, cream is mainly for nourishment with pigment, wax polish is mainly for shine with less pigment. The cream is much more important as it’s what nourishes and revitalises the leather but they aren’t ‘either or’ products, sometimes you want one or the other and for a full treatment, (once or twice a year if you rotate your shoes), use a cleaner then both, cream first then polish.

how many times can you re-craft a shoe? Allen Edmonds says two to three times max. I don't know if that is true
@ducanhtran93256 жыл бұрын
Timothy Chan it depends on your shoes' value. If it less than $200 i dont recommend resole. Otherwise you can resole any times you like if the upper still hold up well
@marksshoereviews60286 жыл бұрын
I would recommend sending the shoes back to the original manufacturer for resoles. I read a story about someone who sent their shoes back to Loake for a fourth resole - they replied with a letter advising that unfortunately the shoes could not be repaired...plus a brand new pair of shoes in the same style for no extra cost!

What's in a good shoe cream? Waxes? Oils? Petroleum jelly? How is it distinct from shoe polishes bought at the supermarket?
@simply2ghetto7 жыл бұрын
Creams are basically a conditioner with dye. They don't contain alcohol like the polish so the leather doesn't dry out as quickly as it does when using solely a polish.
