My wife was anti 2a and basically afraid of guns... then after a fashion and quite some slow incremental trainning, she now is pro 2a and does EDC. Takes time, commitement, empathy and understanding of where each other is comming from. Now she does hand me my butt on the range some times and we both love it, I think... :-)

I'm glad it has worked out for you. I'm sure there are a lot of people who have no interest or knowledge in guns but that in itself doesn't automatically mean anti-gun. For example, I have no interest and little knowledge of tattoos but I don't try and get them super regulated or banned. I'm not anti-tattoo but I don't plan on getting any myself. I respect that people make different choices and have different lifestyles than me and only ask the same in return.

Well... it would have been complicated to live under the same roof all these years, if she was going to freak out every time she saw a gun. I don't own half the guns I wish I had, (there's furniture, and schools, and insurance, and... you get the picture) but I still own a few, so if my household would have not been "gun schooled/compliant" it would have made live miserable for all involved. Like your tattoo example: I guess life would be complicated if one of you was heavy into ink, and the other one had a gag reflex every time she/he saw a tatto, don't you think? People outside my inmediate familly? I get it, if they don't like guns. In fact I do know some people who don't; we have just agreed on not agreen and moved on... the funny thing though, is some of them still somehow expect me to provide "sort of security", when we go out and about? And it's fine. I don't mind... I guess they sort of pay me a compliment by thinking I'm a cave man, but a nice one to have around? :>)

that's awesome dude. there's such a great thing about having a woman involved in self defense. like mulan, she was a female warrior. much like the coupling of mars and venus. They produced Cupid. His arrow brings love and pain. the mystery of love and war is the horizontal polarity (two balancing energies) on the cross. the other two are heaven and earth (manifest/unmanifest). the CROSSpoint point where these four energies (2 polarities) intersect is Sol or Tipareth or CHIST or krishna. it's the Sun, shining in all directions. the cross in most magical secret societies represents the the four elements, the crucifix, the four directions; one of the most powerful symbols of humanity. the christian faith is not bad nor evil, but the crucifix was around longgggg before jesus died on the cross. same for the kabbalah, the jews do not OWN the kabbalah anymore than the christians own the crucifix. i know this is a rant but if you look up the Grand Order Of Draco Slayers, you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about.

Good deal. That’s how I was able to change my wife’s thinking as well. She had a childhood trauma involving guns so it took some time for her to be even a little comfortable being around them. Though never once told me I can’t have them, obviously she knew I’m a retired combat vet so my guns are part of the package. I never told her her views were wrong, 3 years later she’s able to hold them and has entertained the idea that she may want to shoot one. That’s a huge step for her. Of course her son and I always go shoot when he’s in town and we come home and clean them so my wife’s been more exposed to seeing them around and how safe we are with them which has bred acceptance. In the past she always voted for any gun control law without ever reading it, this year she actually voted no after I explained what this initiative was really all about. So people’s views can be changed.

I’m a former anti-gunner. Everyone in my family and almost all of my friends want to ban all guns, which is the primary goal of gun laws (incremental ban). Because I grew up never learning about guns, having never shot a gun, my only education was what the media and other anti-gunners fed me. This is the biggest obstacle in this debate. I was, and others are, emotionally opposed to guns because “they are dangerous death machines that can kill at will.” In a recent conversation with a friend, he suggested that a handgun locked in a safe was going to kill him, his wife and child a mile away... from the safe. This is a common feeling among anti-gun folks. Guns kill, people don’t. The other major issue is that anti-gun folks don’t use their 2nd amendment right, so they are very comfortable with the idea of getting rid of it. They loose nothing. There are similar examples from the other side of the isle too, where conservatives are willing to give up parts of the 1st and 4th amendments or deny gays the right to marry, or women access to birth control. Sometimes I wonder if part of the anti-2A movement is backlash from the Right willing taking away rights from those on the left. My mind was changed when I needed a gun to protect my children. I live in the country and had a mountain lion and a coyote stalking my toddlers (on separate occasions). Also, living in the country the police are an hour away. We’ve had armed robberies in the area before. Being a talented person I know the only way to get good at something is to practice A LOT. When I decided to arm myself I sought professional instruction and practiced 2 days a week for a year. I then applied for and received my CCW. I still get to the range once a week and dry-fire practice at home most nights. Carrying a gun is a huge responsibility. I’ve come to realize that we need more training and education for everyone. I wish it was taught in schools. There is too much bad information out there and not enough training. Edit: Thank you Mr. Lovell for your videos, for educating others, for your service and for leading by example. This country is indeed full of good, brave and honorable people. Thank you

Most gun haters, except for a very small minority, are that way because no one ever took them shooting. Let them fire a few rounds and watch them smile. Fear can be crippling, help them move past it with calm reassurance and a helping hand.

VeryEvilPettingZoo All you have to do is go look at the massive amounts of FBI background checks for firearm purchases to see that the majority in this country do not support gun control. Records are being set regularly. . The control groups love to label rheir gun grabbing efforts as code words like " common sense " and such when what they want is to totally ban firearms from personal possession. Putting lipstick on a pig doesn't change it from being a pig. .. We are not being fooled nor going along with it.
@thatkajunguy8029
@thatkajunguy8029 6 жыл бұрын
VeryEvilPettingZoo If you're going to go sending links make sure it's legitimate. FBI information is available for all to see. If you're claiming that time is more accurate than the FBI information then you have lost any credible debate. Also esp is not needed, just look at the groups pushing the agenda of gun control, it's a new name for the same people. There is no grass roots for gun control, it's a scam. We have seen it all before, it's a stale, poorly planned agenda. The American people want the 2nd-amendment, we want it strong and we will not give it up any more than giving up our 1st.... Guns have been here since before we became a nation, they helped us fight for the nation and they will be here a very lot longer
@thatkajunguy8029
@thatkajunguy8029 6 жыл бұрын
VeryEvilPettingZoo You blab on very nicely too bad you say nothing useful except copying my writings. Your links are nonsense, polls like most things can be led to say whatever the ones paying for it to say. We saw that recently with a presidential election. Here's a couple actual numbers for you , for the last 3 months of this year there has being over 6,160, 000 background checks for purchases of new weapons. . So let's just average it at 2 million a month due to the fact a small number will not pass, for whatever reason so that's 24,000,000 a year. Thanks to that fake " shooting survivor " hogg, you know the one who in his own words had to ride his bicycle to the school after the shooting, the NRA membership has practically doubled. Donations to the NRA are way up, CCW applications, women and minority purchases and training are all at record numbers aroumd the country . That doesn't sound like much support for the gun grabbers to me. Where you live and were raised effects your feelings and beliefs on the need and usefulness of guns and that's fine. You can decide for yourself not to own one but you don't get to decide for anyone else.

Last time I went to buy a gun, I was not able to. Doesn't matter that I am well trained, doesn't matter that I have a perfect background, doesn't matter that I have 10 guns at home that are WAY more dangerous........... hell, it didn't even matter that I now live in Utah. I couldn't get the gun because I just bought a house and my current address was not on my DL or my CCW (even though I updated my info with the police and DMV). The last thing I want is more pointless hoops to jump through. Hell my brother had to buy my last gun. LOL, tell me that's not a joke! You name one thing to add to background checks and I'll tell you why it is stupid. HAHAHA

VeryEvilPettingZoo On track for 24 million new purchases this year to be added to the conservative estimate of 400 million but closer to 700 million already in the hands of legal gun owners in this country. To that I say outstanding,, keep it up... Oh and YAWN to your supposedly majority nonsense and specifically to you....

I can usually sink most anti-gun ships by simply asking questions. What's your plan? How do you achieve this? Are you willing to walk up to the first door, knock and ask? Why should LEO do your work for you? What's your plan for disarming the criminal element? That's usually enough questions for their eyes to glaze over and wander out into traffic. Never have to raise my voice, pick a side or render an opinion. It's really tough to win, when you don't have a workable plan ..... and they don't.

VeryEvilPettingZoo, you are killing me here. Most people don't murder. Most people don't make bombs. (By the way super cute that you think there is not stuff to make bombs at a grocery store. LOL) Most people don't steal. Notice all these things are illegal but still happen. It is not that laws can't be broken, it's how much they will be broken. 33% of this country would rather die than hand over their guns and for good reason. If I made it illegal for you to talk, would you? How many people would break that law? What would the death toll be to get that freedom back?!? Implement what you want, but gun violence will skyrocket! BTW, Oregon is saying nothing works, you'll just want more gun measures.

VeryEvilPettingZoo, you are someone with a lot of free time. I'm assuming you are a green haired feminist who majored in Lesbian Dance Theory and can't find a job. I'll make this quick for my sake.....Gun ownership is 33% of America, your a fool if you think your right to talk is what protects your right to talk, and no gun measures will change anything! Shotguns and revolvers were the furthest thing from getting banned and they have been used in the last 2 mass shootings killing a total of 15 people. You don't know what you are talking about. SHELTERED! So, quit trying to take away my freedoms. Sorry about the bomb thing, I misread it.

Also, you have been watching too much CNN. WHY GUNS!?! Worst mass shooting - Vegas with 58 people dead. Happyland Night Club New York - 2 gallons of gasoline and a match was all it took for one psycho to kill 87 lives. Nice, France with cargo truck - 86 killed. Oklahoma City - 1 rental truck, manure, and racing fuel killed 168 people (19 of which were kids). German Airlines after 9/11 - 1 co pilot killed 215 people. Sagamihara, Japan - 19 killed by a man with a bag full of knives. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!! Not your fault, but you need to step back and ask yourself if you are being slightly brainwashed. LOL, guns are threat to human life because they are currently the weapon of choice....that is it, no other reason.
6 жыл бұрын
VeryEvilPettingZoo You proved nothing and affirmed every belief about anti-gun activists ever propagated. OregonOutback posed sensible questions and you claim not to understand. How can a conversation be had if you don't speak the same language?? I understand, the brains of people like you are wired differently BUT if you choose to forego your individual Rights, that's your deal. Don't fight for me to lose mine as well. Cops don't have to defend you. Ask them and they'll tell you the same. Your plan is a ridiculous fallacy and proves you have never been in a life or death situation where the matter will be over in three seconds or less. The eight minutes you have to wait for police to arrive allows for an inordinate amount of pain and suffering to flourish. All we ask is, you do you and we do us. If you cross that line, problems will arise.

Sooo true! I used to be one of those people, having grown up outside of the US and never having been anywhere near a firearm. So guns scared the heck out of me. You hit the nail on the head with that part - people not knowing guns - and with how the perception of people who have guns influences people's view on guns. When I got to shoot for the first time, and then more and more often meet people who shoot, I realized it's a completely different world from what I had thought. Your approach to this is great, and will hopefully stop being a rare one, as more and more people watch your videos. I guess that's a pretty long-winded way of saying I really, really like this video, and I totally agree with you. And WPS is awesome, and much needed. Ute

John, great video, as usual. The problem I see is: regular human beings make emotional decisions and look for logic which justifies their position. What prompts change isn't logic, but emotion. That's why your video was so effective in the example you gave. I hope you continue to pursue this path and I hope, we your viewers, also take that truth to heart.

Very well said! I have now devoted a significant portion of my gun budget to bringing people out to shoot who have almost never or truly never have shot before. Having soda cans, apples, and other fun targets to blow up adds to the experience and it has had an impact on people bringing them over to the 2A side of things. Once I heard a wife say to a husband "but I thought you were against all of this" (after he was having loads of fun) and he quickly walked up to her and whispered a bit before he returned to shoot more. He had a big grin on his face for the entire range session and I know his mind was changing.

I have spoken to several anti-gun folks in my travels. I work very hard not to fit their narrative or what they expect me to be. If we decide to go down the firearms discussion route I let them know about my background. I don't just own guns, I also instruct. That changes things a bit in conversation, at least for me. It also gives me a way to connect with teachers and educators on a certain level. When I meet somebody that is anti-gun I am generally overjoyed at having the opportunity to help change somebody's opinion in a positive way. Keep up the good work WPS guys!

This video and the one about introducing your wife/ girlfriend to shooting has helped me quite a bit. My wife was never around guns growing up but her dad did have an old rusty revolver for home defense that I’m pretty sure he’s never shot. So my wife isn’t against guns for home defense but just doesn’t like them. The first (and only so far) time I took her the range she was bored and hated it. I’ve been working on ideas to make it more fun for her and these videos have helped me with that. I still haven’t gotten her out the range again but she is warming up to the idea of me carrying a gun and she actually got me a membership to a local gun range for Christmas. My first main goal for her is to be able to operate the 9mm pistol I have for home defense in case I’m not there but I would like to win her over as far as her carrying as well. And you were right in the other video I mentioned. She did not like me trying to critique/ help her haha. Working on filling in that hole I dug myself into haha

I am a pretty liberal guy who is pro 2A. I am a member of the Liberal Gun Club. Because I shoot USPSA and 3-gun, and assemble a crapload of ammunition on my XL650, I have quite a few conservative friends. I would say 50% of my liberal friends are completely against firearm ownership. 30% are OK with it or are curious, or want some changes to the laws. And then there are a very silent 20% just like me. Silent because they don't want to have the tired arguments with that other 50%. I am unafraid to talk about firearms with my liberal friends, but that does mean some of them have moved away to the "loose-acquaintance" category. I was anti-gun most of my life. A friend changed my mind after a mass shooting. He mentioned a person with a carry permit might have changed the outcome. I said, "What about innocents getting shot in the crossfire?" He said, "I'd rather take my chances with one person shooting back, than sit and wait my turn to die." Logic I couldn't argue with and was the tiny leak in the dam that eventually eroded the entire dam away. I'm not saying everyone should have a firearm, but I do think that if responsible people want to, they should be able to own as firearms as they want.

I was born in Dijon. A nice city, Capital of Burgundy. Center east of France. The little village i grew up is named "Fontaine les Dijon". Here lived "St Bernard de Fontaine" (11th Century). He's been one of the people behind the three first Crusades. The Main street of this village was named. "The Street of Templars" so i guess i've been influence by this way of been a Christian as well as a fighter. I'm a shooter, i do martial Arts, Swords and i live my life as an honest man as much as i can. But due to my ancestors background, i feel like a duty for me to keep the right mindset regarding what's happening these days. Always aware of my surrounding and ready to fight whatever happens... Unfortunately here in California shooters are so heavily outnumbered both by liberal citizens and governing officials that we get very little opportunity to do what you're saying. I agree with this message. For a long time I was very hush, hush about being pro-second amendment. However, especially here in California, I felt it is necessary to portray gun owners in a positive manner and not someone who is a road rage incident away from snapping. I have found so many people who are much more open to the idea of gun ownership after being open, honest and respectful of others' opinion.

Counselor Twenty17 God builds the Church, God saves. Yes, He has means but we must not confuse a command God gives with a need on God's part. God has no need of me or you to save anyone. God did not give His Son to then be at the mercy of fallen human beings. God will save all those He wills to save. The gathering of the Church every Sunday is about God serving His people, equipping us, by the power of Holy Spirit, with a heart of gratitude, in Christ, to walk in the way He prepared. The decline of Christianity in America has many causes, none more serious than a people who don't know the Gospel and therefore can't tell it. If you are in Christ it is not because you chose Christ but rather it's because He chose you from the foundation of the world. Amazing grace. Know it, believe it, love and go tell it on the mountain and everywhere...

hi john, I live in Ireland and everyone here is anti guns. even my friends don't agree, I've only been able to convert 1 or 2 people. even my CSPE teacher is anti gun(CSPE is like a politics class). We're a country full of liberals. RTE which is like Ireland's equivalent of fox or CNN did a report saying we had military style weapons ( whilst showing a bolt action .22) when your not allowed pistols, semi auto(unless its a .22 and has less than a 10 round magazine), nothing bigger than .308 and no slugs for shotguns along with a bunch of other things. The only Irish gun law i agree with is that you can buy a gun at 16(with mad background checks) but its still good, and as far as i know as of a couple of years ago they changed the laws so you could u a firearm defensively. Ill be 16 next summer and i'm hoping to get my licence. Thanks and keep up the great work on the vids.

How to convert antigunner: Realize that every single government that has ever been and ever will be, inevitably meets or will meet one of three fates. 1: It will be overthrown 2: It will be conquered or 3: It will fall into tyranny In all 3 of those fates, you will likely have no military to call your own, leaving you on your own with absolutely everything on the line. VeryEvilPettingZoo, great comment but I disagree with you. No offense, but you come from a sheltered life if you think war, tyranny, and countries fighting for freedoms is not happening within the last 80 years (let alone now). Half the countries in the middle east, half the countries in Africa, Ukraine, North Korea, Venezuela, Syria, and all countries involved in the South China Sea .......... are all in conflict or on the brink of war! To sit in a country like the USA, which has been protected from enemies (as well as It's own government) SINCE IT'S FOUNDATION is idiotic. That protection is the 2nd Amendment! So, with all due respect, you wait for the sun to explode. I will be teaching my kids to be patriots and protect the American way of life. My children will hopefully teach it to their children, who will teach it to their children. The same as my father taught me how to shoot, carry, and not be 100% trustful of a government who knows my name simply to know if I am paying them the money I earned. Hopefully you are right, but looking around the world and in a history book, I doubt it. Hopefully my kids can get your kids out of the concentration camps that are never going to happen. (JAPANESE INTERNMENT CAMPS, JIM CROW AND THE RACIST ROOTS OF GUN CONTROL, CDC 2012 GUN VIOLENCE STUDY) Some light reading if you are up for the task.

I am doubling down on you being a green haired feminist with no job. THE GOVERNMENT TOOK GUN RIGHTS AWAY FROM THE JAPANESE AND BLACK CITIZENS BEFORE IMPRISONING THEM OR KILLING THEM YOU HALF-WIT!!! Look at history, don't ask your liberal arts professor. The only reason america has not had as many problems as other countries is because of it's foundation (including the Second Amendment). Wars, including civil wars, will be fought regardless of what weapons are on the battlefield. The battlefield is made equal by having the same weapons. The reason slavery was abolished was because the majority of the people did not support that way of life. If the government turns against the majority...... than that is what the second amendment is for.

Took my family member's boyfriend to the range. He grew up in urban Chicago, and had never handled a gun. His primary sentiments were negative: fear, and pain of loss. After a short safety orientation, I loaded one round in my Beretta Neos .22 pistol. He squeezed the trigger, and apprehension instantly yielded to joy. He quickly moved on to my Sig P220 .45 pistol and had a wonderful, life-changing time. He no longer feared the gun, and gained a sense of empowerment that day.

I concur with you on this. It is far better to represent yourself as a regular person who also likes guns and respects our second amendment, rather than a hot tempered stereotype of a gun owner yelling about "TYRANNY!!!!!". Obviously there is a time and place to stand firm, but maybe a civil conversation in the office or job site is not the place for a full blown argument. Great video.

So, actually [just admit it] the WPS symbol revolves around what is above the horizontal “dead space” which strongly resembles a “JL”, very coincidentally the initials of, the words “John” and “Lovell” - which, by the way works even if your wearing a logo shirt and looking in a mirror. Then, demonstrating John’s very high quality of self-reflection, we have what is below the horizontal “dead space” - just as if the logo was looking into a calm pool of water. Thanks, on a serious note, for all the great videos and instruction.

My wife and I are both from Texas, so pro gun is almost a requirement. We both are involved in theatre, me professionally. In that field, 99% of people are liberal, and are terrified of guns. I’ve found that the theatre folks, while different from most normal folks, can be found with the same amount of nice vs mean, smart vs dumb, and kind vs selfish distribution found in the general public. I’ve made many lifelong friends that disagree with my politics (let me live my life my way and you can live yours your way) but are still wonderful people. Not everyone who disagrees with you is a complete moron, and plenty of people who agree with you are. Thanks John for balancing the tactical information with wonderful thoughts about God, mindset, and family.

Very much in agreement with you John. I am agnostic, so I might disagree on religious points of view, but I love humanity too much, and as such, I feel that everyone should have the same rights as I do. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The rights set down in our Constitution to me, might as well be my Bible. Same with the Declaration of Independence. It ensures that we get along together, despite differences of opinion, and that includes the 2nd Amendment. And very much agree that brow-beating doesn't work, and seeking to come to a mutual understanding with each other is how we earn honor, love, honesty, respect, and lead by example. Great topic! Keep it up!

They don’t want to listen to facts, and say I’m making up facts even when I put my sources of information in my response. I haven’t had a chance to talk to them face to face because I never see them. They appear to go with emotions alone. I actually had two people (one from high school and one from college) who removed me from being their friends over the facts. I have two brothers, one is like me, a country boy at heart, and my other one is very much so a "high society" city boy. Their choice in wives also reflects this. My city boy brother who lives in Seattle used to despise guns, but he understands the people's right to have them, and he opposes anti-2A laws. Well, my other brother and I hatched a scheme to convert him to being pro-gun. It was pretty simple; we took him to the range (really nice outdoor facility on Rattlesnake Mountain in Washington). We had him first try my brother's Ruger 10/22 at the interactive plinking range, then my Astra A-100 in .40S&W at the interactive pistol range, then my AR-15 at the intermediate range (goes out to 450 yards), then finally my brother's Winchester XPR in .30-06 at the 1,000 yard range. We burned through a lot of ammo, about $200 worth, but my brother still didn't enjoy it. I should mention all these guns are mostly meant for right handed shooters, and my city brother is left-handed. We then convinced him to come back the next day for one more thing; the shotgun range! I set up one of the trap houses, bought a few tokens ($5 each, gets you 25 clay pigeons), and let him try my 12ga Mossberg 500 FLEX setup with the fixed stock and 28"barrel with full choke. The recoil impulse on it is silky smooth (less felt recoil than an AR-15, believe it or not), and it's effectively ambidextrous. My brother missed a few times, as expected, but then he hit one, and his face lit up like when he was a little boy on Christmas morning. My other brother and I looked at each other, and we knew; we just witnessed a conversion! Now my city brother is looking into getting a Mossberg 500 of his own, but he now has the seemingly insurmountable task of convincing his very anti-gun wife. If businesses ever reopen out here, I'm gonna save up, buy him a shotgun just like mine, and gift it to him this Christmas. My country brother was a Fudd when it comes to AR-15s, but I bought him a stripped lower receiver for Christmas last year, which I had custom laser engraved with his company logo and a haiku I wrote called "The Rifleman's Haiku." He was pretty wowed by that gift, but it sat on a shelf until the Covid non-sense started up. Suddenly he's all grateful that I bought him the serialized part, and I helped him figure out how to build it out to his liking. It's now his favorite rifle! So it's pretty cool that I've been able to convert someone who disliked guns to wanting to buy one for recreation, and I also converted a Fudd who talked down to me for buying a "weapon of war," but now loves his AR-15 more than any other gun he owns, and will even use it to teach his 5-year-old daughter to shoot this summer. Not sure if she'll like it, as she's VERY girly-girl, and prefers princesses, unicorns, and pink everything. I suggested he buy her a pink youth 10/22, as 5.56 is really loud and can be really scary for new shooters. Anyway, if you read all that, thank you for your time, and I hope you're successful in winning hearts and minds! As my ol' army buddy would say, "Move fast shoot straight!"
