I love that the dates on those coolers are 1992 and 1988. Just shows that when you take good care of things they last! Thank you for sharing these videos, I learn so much every time!

Thank you so much for sharing this process! I was looking for information specifically on cooling out on an unclipped horse and this was perfect!

I love your videos they are always top notch with the best information and challenges the horse world to step up just a little bit higher. I could never aspire to horses of your caliber, or indoor arenas with paintings on the walls or stalls that are nicer than my bedroom. However, I can aspire to give my horse, in my discipline the very best care possible and the only way I know what that is is to learn from the best and as far as I am concerned that is you! Thank you so much

This is why I scour tack consignment sites for wool coolers, it's harder to find them new that don't cost a fortune. I know folks like polar fleece because it can go in the laundry, but if your horses are not rolling in them they rarely need to be “washed” anyway. My wool coolers are pretty old but have held up perfectly.

Sooo, in the book Black Beauty, the thing that went wrong when BB got sick and nearly died after a very long run was that the boy just put BB away hot, no blankets, with a big bucket of cold water to drink?

We have several big beautiful wool square coolers....and my horse decided he hates wool because it makes him really itchy 😅 so fleece it is. The Rambo Newmarket cooler works really well for him.

About how long would u say the whole process took... from putting on her coolers to taking them off and being ready to groom and take outside? Great video! Thx!

Walking out - about five to ten minutes, untacking/coolers put on - five minutes, time in stall with two coolers on - 10 minutes, time in stall with just one cooler on - 10 minutes, final groom - 10 minutes. Lucky there's always something to do in the barn while waiting to take layers off! ;)

Hi, thanks for sharing your knowledge, it’s a pleasure seeing you handle your horses and always attending their well-being. A question - What is the reason you don’t let the horse drink when it’s back in its stall? Of course ice cold water is not good immediately after training, but if there is water with good temperature, why don’t let it drink? Curious to maybe learn something new, since I always let my horse drink after training to restore hydration. If I compare to myself, when I’m thirsty after a work out I drink water until I’m satisfied, why don’t let the horse do the same? What is the consequence of letting it drink? Thank you, love your videos and the way you share your knowledge and love for the horses!

Our experience is that it's a bit better for them to drink a little at a time initially when they're really hot. Less instances of them getting a touch colicky. We aren't suggesting you wait hours to allow them all the water they want, just a short pause to be sure they've cooled enough.

What brand of wool coolers would you recommend? I’ve seen some on Dover and Smartpak that are around the $100 mark, but everyone said they “cost a fortune” so I’m wondering if I’m not looking at the right thing.

do you find wool coolers to have less static than fleece? Ive had some reactive horses to coolers because of static shock when taking them off 😬
@joycee54934 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. I’ve had the same experience, especially with mares. I’ve never had a wall color only polar fleece. I’ll have to look into that.

Yes, while there's still some static, especially in the cold dry air, we find it to be less than with fleece.

You should try lowering your stirrups......your knee placement a little too high.........💕 Love the “ straw” used to absorb sweat if you don’t have a towel 😀 brilliant ✨💜

Thank you for watching. Cyber Flower is on the smaller size and Becky is tall, so her shorter stirrups to jump Flower for the first time this day were quite purposeful.
