Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
I guess I just feel like
I guess I just feel like
Nobody's honest, nobody's true
Everyone's lyin' to make it on through
I guess I just feel like I'm the same way too
[Interlude]
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
[Verse 2]
I guess I just feel like good things are gone
And the weight of my worries is too much to take on
I think I remember the dream that I had
That love's gonna save us from a world that's gone mad
I guess I just feel like
What happened to that?
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 3]
I guess I just feel like the joke's gettin' old
And the future is fading and the past is on hold
But I know that I'm open and I know that I'm free
And I'll always let hope in wherever I'll be
And if I go blind, I'd still find my way
I guess I just felt like givin' up today
[Outro]
Mmm, yeah, yeah

John, I'm 63 years old and I've been a music lover and musician for 60 years. The only contemporary artist who can make me really cry hard during a song is you, my friend. Sometimes beautiful music just fills me up past the fill line. That's when the tears come. Thanks for the inspiration.

I feel like John went through all 5 stages of grief in one song. I bow down to the Master of current songwriters. 1. Denial 2. Anger 3. Depression 4. Bargaining 5. Acceptance. If someone is reading this today, I am so sorry for your pain, and I pray to the universe to give you healing, peace and acceptance. Truly, may you find peace and the answers you are needing, 🙏 SEEK AND YOU WILL FIND.

I think this is one of the most well rounded songs John has released in years. It really appeals to everyone. It’s pop, but with a really funky and bluesy solo at the end. Because there’s always us guitar players that are just begging and pleading for him to show off his srv blues chops more often. And with every album it appeared as if he was straying farther and farther away from his roots. This is somewhere in between, and it’s a great start. I really like this tune. Lyrically it’s so accurate for me in regards to how I feel a lot of the time. John has an uncanny knack for being able to make songs that are so relatable and true for a vast majority of people. Feeling that connection with an artist is so important. Bravo John.

Best writing since the title track of 2012's "Born and Raised" album, in fact since "Stop this train" from 2006's Grammy-winning "Continuum". Given the toxicity of today's social media, the general disillusionment among millenials and the endless search for elusive love and meaning, this is timely, this is apt, this has great healing potential. The guitar playing in the beginning reeks of the outro in the live performance of "In Your Atmosphere" which featured in 2007's Where The Light Is concert. There's a bit of 2017's "Emoji Of A Wave" in the short riff at the bridge, and the solo in the concluding part is pretty much "If I Ever Get Around To Living". After all that goofing in "New Light", this is refreshing, this is soulful, this is the John Mayer we know and love. Blue-ocean-floor deep, this.

Outside of the realms of metal, most modern guitar players are short on modern icons. Mayer is one of the few that are popular and available. It's no secret that his main fan base is the ladies, and so those of us who had found Mayer circa 2001, did so because of our girlfriends/wives. Had my wife not been playing RFS album, and Neon, specifically, I may have never picked up on Mayer. His radio image is different than his actual musical quality. Continuum is the greatest modern guitar album, in the last 20 years ESPECIALLY FOR TONE, but also for content quality. Yet his songwriting is so good, Born & Raised and Paradise Valley are OUTSTANDING, as well. Joe Bonamassa is close, but he can't write like Mayer.

Who knew we needed a song in the middle of a pandemic where so many are scared and sick, a song that brought us back to the old school John Mayer to soothe our souls? I did. 🙌Thank you John for being a therapist that I don't have to pay... "Love's gonna save us, from a world gone mad" is a statement more relevant than ever now. People are fighting one another for toliet paper and food, while the elderly and homeless suffer immensely. Thousands dying and global hysteria, on every continent except Antarctica. This makes me feel so melancholy and sad, and when I feel down I always turn to music to soothe me. May God bless you all. We are all in this together. Love will save us.

This song came out in the dead of winter my freshman year of college. “I guess I just felt like, giving up today”. It was at the point of the year where I had completely given up on myself. Sometimes when you’re at rock bottom you need inspiration but you also need to be seen and met where you’re at. It felt like this song was there to meet me where I was at. 5 years later and this song still brings me back to those days, and I’ve got nothing but gratitude for making it to where I am now.

66 and read/listen to such a broad spectrum, write as well. This piece is so real, written similar but just words, though played music to accompany. Saw a comment below, wonder if John reads comments - nah. Comments are written assumed to be a lament or depressing reflection - though the product intent, released is sharing an emotion or belief. There are those grasping a hope, bless them. I understand the disposable mentality of those relating by writers. This serves the purpose and I can relate, write my words. But the words of others read or heard have inspired many in their moment. Thanks for the words and sound

Correct me if I'm wrong: but if you listen closely, you CAN hear bits of 'Theme from The Search for Everything', 'Emoji of a Wave' (2:15-2:22) and the entire solo section at the end has the 'If I Ever Get Around to Living' vibe to it. It's such a beautiful feeling when an artist reminds you of his other songs through his newer songs- you feel like you've immersed yourself completely into his universe, and what's better than being a part of this beautiful world created by John Mayer 😊❤️ P.S.
