Thanks guys! Love that you express your opinions instead of just saying: "Make your own judgements" like most reviewers. A beginner obviously doesn't have the same ears for subtle differences as an experienced musician so your opinion is valuable.

The Wave menu on the UVI Hammer B is your drawbar setting. The numbers tell you how far out each drawbar is. You had 8 and then all zeros so that means the first drawbar was fully out and all the others were in. If you want all out, choose all 8s! Their rotary plugin takes care of the Leslie effect.

Logic Vintage Organ is eminent 😊👍 also for live use , it’s very nice to be able to change presets via modulation wheel , and you can tailor all in detail 😊

For an old rock n roller the VB3 and Logic may be the best. What is the bad clitching going on in the B5 ? I may like that netter but fix that.

Three things have to make me smile...the overall tone, the rotary effect, and the C3 vibrato/chorus.

Mike, can you pls send me the link to get the first one? I really like the sound because I think it’s realistic.

One thing I've found is its difficult to do a direct comparison with the top picks because they all need tweaked in different ways to get the best from them, personally I always go back to the latest VB3 mk2 as the tube feedback and leakage sounds killer, but I like a really dirty grungy sound so definitely not for everyone. My biggest complaint with some of them is they sound 'too nice' (and it's the grunge that makes an old Hammond sound so good).- great review BTW.
@randszzob85905 жыл бұрын
The rotary speaker, amp and miking are key components of the Hammond sound. I now prefer to use Melda's MVintageRotary or the excellent IK Multimedia Leslie. For a source, I still use NI B4 II, as well as AcousticSamples B5. The AIR DB-33 also gives some nice tones, and goes on sale regularly for $10-20 or less! The Melda plugin goes on sale at half price regularly, too.

That Leslie switch x that tube overdrive for me. For you rockers, check adding and overdrive amp setting maybe.

thank you very much. Use a Korg CX3 with Leslie in my studio but controller and soft for most live gigs. Used to have the B4, bought the new NI Vintage Organs, and agree with you 100%. No. After listening to the sounds and your opinion bought the B-5 yesterday. Night and day difference - tone, vibrato, Leslie. the word warm comes to mind. As you said about the NI -thin. Really sucks up in the higher register. Many thanks. Subscribed.

I have most of these and one thing I can say is (with the exception of the Logic organ) NEVER USE THE BUILT-IN LESLIE/ROTARY SPEAKER. I only use MVintageRotary or IK Multimedia's Leslie and a Neo Ventilator live.
@CalvinLimuel3 жыл бұрын
for UVI Retro Organs, actually the EX III is the one that has drawbar control. It's based on Korg CX-3, so technically it's a model of a model.

I too have fond memories of the NI B4. It was marvel at the time and the first truly viable software organ. I'm liking the Arturia B3 V2. I think it's a big improvement over the original B3 V, which I wasn't crazy about. But I agree that I still would have to go with the AcousticSamples B5. It sounds amazing, and I would pick it over even some of the hardware clone wheels that I've heard.

I wish I could get my NI B4 II to work in the MAC I just bought. Any suggestions ???
@stevefigueroa8350 Жыл бұрын
@@jimiholsinger9367 That's a pretty old plugin, so I'm not sure if it would still work with the newer versions of Komplete or Kontakt Player, or with the new Apple silicon. Perhaps it doesn't if you're having issues getting it to work. So you might be SOOL. But the good news is that NI Vintage Organs is currently on sale for $50, and it's basically a newer updated version of the B4. And it will definitely still work with the newer versions of Kontakt or Komplete.

Nothing is going to sound like a real B3 with Leslie speakers, especially if you play a real organ. However, vst’s are used mainly for recording purposes. With that being said, if you hear a song with an organ in it, would you be able to tell what was used?

Garage band user here, (my opinion doesn’t matter) but I really love the Leslie and organ on the logic organ, since I’m limited by using GarageBand on an older mac, I love the organs! But I think it’s sound is just really true to a real B3 and man that Leslie really sings, I’ve used the arturia organ and I gotta say, the logic one is WAY better, the arturia organ is way to almost mono sounding and dark and there’s an unpleasant mid that I hear,

Thanks for the review! I was trying to decide if I should upgrade from the Logic B3-if there was something out there that was clearly better-but since I'm a keyboard player (and a lot less comfortable on the organ), I decided it wouldn't be worth it for me.

I’m no technical expert, but the UVI and Kontakt are sample players as opposed to generative synth emulations. It sounds like samples to me - which in theory should be very authentic. But I think the modelling emulations hold more promise, so I prefer the Arturia, Logic and newest IK Multimedia B3s.

I was wondering about this too. There was a lot of digital sounding distortion .Maybe his levels were too hot.
@MrAngrybassist5 жыл бұрын
Well, that's correct to an extent. He was obviously having some digital overshoots judging from what the peak level was displaying on the output channel strip. He probably had the buffer set too low in Logic as well. I've had that exact same problem when using third party plugins within Logic myself. If you have the buffer set too low then you're more likely to have audio glitches and dropouts with third party software, and I'm using a 13-inch MacBook Pro that's almost a decade old, so.
@lukaszkowalski22613 жыл бұрын
B5 is a CPU hog. Always been and looks like after 2 new versions it is still not playable. This plugin was wrong since the introduction couple years ago. I tried to help them but the developer ignored my comments.With this plugin you have a choice either clips and cracks or increase the buffer and have tremendous latency which is unplayable. Don't waste money if you play organ. If you need sound only you can get it. it has decent sound.

Might be better off to just use a real Leslie. To get the software to mimic the effect is going to be very difficult d/t the speaker’s interaction with the room it’s in. An easy visualization of the complexity of what’s going on would be to place a large Maglight of a lazy Susan bearing, turn off all the lights after dark, click on that flashlight and spin it around. Multiply that by the various frequencies wavelengths and speed of the Leslie sections, and you’ve got a software nightmare that would require in room measurements from a real Leslie at a particular part of the room. Then you’d only be able to have that Leslie sound at one spot in the room mimicking the Leslie at a particular location. Below 1,500 Hz, the ear uses phase information to determine sound origin and room size. Above that point (roughly), the ear (actually brain) uses intensity information for such things. It’s hard to fool your ears and brain when it comes to acoustics although McGurk figured out some interesting ways to do so (google McGurk effect).

HI John Mike, have you tried the tone wheel organ in Steinberg's Halion Sonic or Halion 6? Curious if it has the true Hammond B3 sound. It is also in the free Halion Sonic SE3, but is playback only. I use Cubase Pro which comes bundled with Halion Sonic SE3 and since I don't play the organ I want to have an authentic organ sound, but at this time purchasing a full organ VST I may not get the full value since I don't play the instrument.

@westfinch525 жыл бұрын
NI Vintage Organs are not B4. B4 was much better, but NI ditched it for Vintage organs which are terrible, and have not really progressed since many years ago. Why didn't you guys throw in GG Audio Blue 3? It is better than many you have in the shootout. Retro Organs are mostly samples, which really eats up computer resources, and the Leslie is awful. The B3-V is not yet up to speed with the rest of the clone world. The Logic has always sounded good but the B5 reigns above all. John Mike, I like many of your demos, but this is not a good shootout as your past ones. Just throwing a vst up, without relative comparison shows nothing. I have all these virtual organs, and play some of them everyday, but it takes time with these plugs to get the best out of them.
