Hey John I was watching you tube and found your videos and have been watching most of them. Been on 2 wheels for over 40 years Harley guy. The wife and I have had many long trips with our bikes , but this year the old body has been hurting and my new Harley has been sitting in the garage which has us both sad that we haven't been out riding. Your videos has helped us to my a decision to try a new spyder seen many on the roads during our trips but never gave it a thought. I have got to a point that I just dont want to take a change with the wife on the back and not be able to have full control like I use to. So I have given a way my 1000's of Harley T-shirts and Im not looking back. Wife said thanks John for making the hard headed old man look at different options. We are looking forward to being back on the road. Thank you

Hey George and John, Seamus here. George, I'm basically at the same point. I currently have a Triumph Thunderbird LT, bought it new in '14. I love the bike but had two close calls last year that shook me up enough to realize that it's time to go a different way. After 32 years in the Air Force, riding every imaginable bike in stations around the world, it's difficult to let go. Funny thing is, three years ago I bought my wife a Spyder RT... in 23015 I bought a Polaris Slingshot. So I'm familiar with the Spyders as I have driven her bike. So I am saying farewell to the TBird and this year will be saying hello to a Spyder F3-T. It's good to find someone with the same mindset George, and John...you're videos have added to my decision and anticipation of my future with Spyders, so thanks. Seamus

I've learned from personal experience that the best price is not necessarily a good deal. All the 'other' decision factors this dealer pointed to are sooooo important. And not mentioned, but soooo important is the dealer's reputation. Before buying a bike I always talk with people I know who have dealt with that dealer. If they don't give that dealer a platinum review, I move on. (To be clear, I know that some folks damn a dealer for things the dealer can't control, and I factor those things out of the feedback of course).

Thinking about 1 of these. Subbed don’t like buying anything at MSRP cause they drop in value dramatically after they roll off the floor just like cars and motorcycles. I sold high end luxury cars for almost 20 years. Never sold at MSRP and I got a very high CSI rating every year cause I wasn’t the usual car sales experience most customers were use to. The dealers I worked for also had a great customer reputation. We were a luxury store and treated our customers like family. I was very lucky to work for some great people over the years. I’m retired from the business now, but miss my old customers and my old employers. Still visit my old store and bosses. Have a great relationship with them and miss it a lot. Just don’t miss working all the crazy hours and every weekend!!

Creative interview, good job. More Q&A about the service, being aware of service is only as good as the dealer. Service on the Spyder is not something most can do, so reliance on the dealer after care is most important. We all have heard the horror stories where service has been a huge problem on Spyders.

@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog4 жыл бұрын
Hay Joe, How long can you sit and ride? That depends on the individual, for me (age 63) I shoot for an average of 250 mile day. Some times I will do up to 350 in one day, but that would be my limit. Last June I did a 28 day, 4000+ ride out to NM and CO. I have put about 14,000 on my Spyder so far. I will also address that in an upcoming video, but wanted to get a reply out to you... Take care.

We are presently looking at a 2015 RT-S and a 2018 RT Limited Chrome. Both are in very good condition. Of course the prices are significantly different. Are there enough important improvements in the 2018 to warrant the higher price? From what I can tell, the drive train and suspension are pretty much the same. The biggest changes seem to be in the electronics. If that’s so how big a deal is it? Hope you can help, we have been agonizing over this purchase too long. Thank you.

Hello, I've been watching you and Marion take your trips on a Can-Am Spyder. Yours I believe is a 2014. I've also seen some of the new ones for 2021. And I think they're about 23,000 dollars. I'm not sure that I'm going to be able top afford a new one. How do you get information on the older ones. The say 2013 through 2016 , maybe a 2017? Most of what I've seen on the internet and KZbin is people riding and talking about the bikes they have. How do you gather information for pre-purchase? I used to ride a motorcycle for a short time way back in 1980. As I get older and closer retirement in 5 to 7 years. I'm not sure if I want to be dealing with hand brakes , foot brakes , clutch etc. I'm thinking a spider would be more of what I want to ride. If you could contact me with any information about doing research on them I will greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to figure out what features you have on your bike. I've heard something about an automatic transmission. But some people have said you have to up shift. I don't really understand this. If you could send me back any information. I have a little time before I'm going to be making a purchase. And the other thing do you know if dealerships deal and older used spiders ? Thank you Pat
@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog3 жыл бұрын
And that will be a great video, thank you. As to the transmission, Its a thumb shift to go up, No clutch handle, auto shifts coming down . You can also manually down shift by using your index finger to push the thumb shift lever from behind,, Yes, we have the 2014 RT, SE6 (Electronic thumb shift, with 6 speeds) It also is available in SM6 (Manual, clutch and toe shift) all Spyders from 2014 and up have the 1330, 3 cylinder engine. prior to that they had the 990 cc. Yes, dealers often stock used spyders they take on trade-in. I stated on Cycle trader.com.

Technically its not a "Trike". Trikes have the two wheel in the rear like a tricycle. In aviation an aircraft with two wheels in the front is called "conventional gear" or "tail dragger", whereas an aircraft with two wheels in the rear is called "tricycle gear". As to the question, yes, they do. I think they do not understand the popularity or the utility.

I'm reaaaaaalllllly thinking about getting a Ryker next year. I live in Fairfax county Va, so what are the requirements for me to get a complete M3 license? I know he touched on the training courses. But how do I go from no license to hopping on one of these bad boys legally? Oh and I should add I do have a basic Virginia license and I've never driven a motorcycle. And last question (I promise) any recommended dealers in Northern Virginia? Thanks

Virginia requires a 3 wheel motorcycle licenses. We found our local community collage offered a 2 day training program (Sat & Sun) which was supported by Can Am. Most of the training units are the Spyder, The cost was also underwritten by Can Am only costing Miriam about $75. That way you get some time on the spyder before you buy...

@@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog okay cool. So I assume I'll still have to take a written test first before I drive on any course? And these driving course would count as taking a driving exam?

They have a final written exam and practical,,, They said in over 7 years only had one that failed..... Once complete they give you your temp licence that day
