I just bought my Spyder 3 weeks ago...im LOVING it!! Im 6' 6" tall and there's plenty of legroom and that's with the wife on the back.its a 2017 RT LTD metallic white mother of pearl with chrome wheels and upgraded LED all round..if i knew just how much fun and how comfortable those things were i would've had one years ago!! If anyone's thinking of getting a Spyder ,do it- you wont regret it!!

Alas, I'm that impulsive buyer, bought my '18 RTL and took my demo ride home a little poorer, but SO satisfied. It was damned foolish, but it's been the best decision I've ever made (all right, Navy career, wives, children, etc)! My latest(and dearest) wife simply loves it, will ride forever (no exaggeration) and we love to burn up the road. I bought her a Ryker, and she liked it, but prefers the back seat on the RTL. It may just pay for our next trip. September means Vegas to Florida, with a few relatives and friends in between. We're at 38k and wearing it OUT! You and Coach Bob have inspired me to plan a little more (thank you); leave it to me and I would just leave tomorrow, but we are inspired. My love(wife) is fading, so there is no time to spare for our #1 bucket list item. Thank you for the advice, the inspiration, and the obvious camaraderie of the Spyder Community..!

Another very informative video John. I especially agree with you on one thing in particular as I suspect many others do as well. Can Am has really dropped the ball in not incorporating an intercom system to their bikes. I also believe the stereo systems should be optional, as I have zero desire to blast music from speakers which will be muffled at best under a helmet, all the while being offensive to all others on the road. I would much rather pay good money for a high quality intercom like we see in airplanes, programmable to mute music while the "Captain" or "First Officer" is speaking, rather than wasting this on a useless and obnoxious stereo. This of course should include a bluetooth interface to both your Garmin for audio commands, as well as cell phone and or satellite radio.
@jackgibsxxx07503 жыл бұрын
May be wrong on this but I think the brp connect allows you to Bluetooth the sound system to your helmet/s.

I use to ride dirt bikes as a child over 40 years ago. Rode on the back of a motorcycle in my teenage years. At 55, I took the course a couple of weeks ago (passed 😍). But prior to the course I purchased a 2010 Spyder RT-S. 14K miles it’s basically brand new. I ride a little to connect with it but I sometimes have a little anxiety from a motor vehicle accident last year but I am overcoming that. I plan on doing some touring.

Well John, you’ve definitely sold me. Now all we have to do is get “Management” on board, if you know what I mean! My wife, Lorrie and I have been together about 48 years. I’m 66, and retired almost 9 years, and she’s a few years younger, and still working. (I had a nice government job, and she doesn’t) Now you have our basic background, and I do want to say, we’ve been together since we were kids, and basically liked our toys, like cars, boats, trailers, and first half camping, and the second part cabin cruisers! But almost right from the beginning, she stated “Absolutely no motorcycles!” “If you come home with a motorcycle license in one hand, you better have divorce papers in the other!” I couldn’t understand it, because when she was a little younger than when we met, she had her own skidoo, boats water skiing, and horses. “HORSES!” Oh well what is a guy to do. Forward 45 years, and I said that I was pondering getting an electric scooter. No problem she says. (What’s this now? I say to my self. Is there a chink in her armour? Well now I’ve got permission for two wheels, if I can just get the power train changed from electric to gas, I might have some leeway. The Vespas and some of the other European companies have some scooter choices that aren’t too bad… She seemed okay with those little gas scooters. Then I found just what I thought that I just might get by her, because it was a “Scooter!” I got a Suzuki 650 Burgman Scooter! Fixed it all up for comfort and joy and that we could do some real good rides with what hair we still have left, in the wind… You’re not getting me on that thing, it leans too far over. This is a hell of a nice first, and maybe last bike, and I look at some of the other riders like you and the Mrs., and really want to do some of that cruising and people meeting! I’m going to show her some of your blogs and see what she thinks! Sorry for the long comment! Just wanted to give you some of my background! Cheers, Mark Dougherty, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

It is a trike, it’s sometimes called a tadpole trike (shaped like a tadpole) all three wheel bicycles are called trikes most modern ones are tadpole trikes but there are also single front wheel trikes as well. Trike is short for Tricycle - a three wheeled bicycle. Thanks for the video.

I have enjoyed your video, and I am considering making a purchase based on your information. But, I wish to correct 1 part of your presentation. This is the reason history is important. Frederick McKinley Jones an African American inventors, built a snowmobile for faster, easier traveling in 1919 after a particularly bad snowstorm. Jones built the machine by using a discarded airplane body and attaching two ski-like runners onto the front and back. This first snow machine had no brakes, and when Fred wanted to stop, he stuck his feet out on each side and let them drag in the snow. Mr. Jones' snowmobile was innovative, but unfortunately, he didn't patent it. He just pondered on ways to make it better. Years later, another man went on record as inventor of the first snowmobile. While, I take nothing from Bombardier. It was just worth mentioning. Again thank you!!!

Have you met anyone who tows a spyder on a small trailer behind their pickup camper? We’re approaching 70 and we’re considering a 13 RT SE5 as a “Toad” so we have something to drive after we park the camper. We have a 96 year old friend in church who is the original owner and he thinks he should probably sell it because he’s not riding any longer.

Yes, we have a freind who lives in FL and joined us for 2 of our meetups in the Shenandoa National Park. He trailered his spyder each time behind his Pickup. Last year he and his wife did a trip out west (4000+miles) and towed the spyder.

Hi, and thanks so much for this, great Vid! However, would you please give me your thoughts, as to wether this Machine, would be a suitable choice, to "Tour" Europe on? (Two Up). I would preferably have an "Auto", as I am a bit LAZY! I have been looking at the Harley "Triglide"/Honda "Goldwing" but honestly, the crazy prices people want for them, is quite rediculass! (In the regeon of £30,000, for a low milage, young one). Basiculy, I need to know, wether it would be a Comfortable, Machine, Safety, would be taken for granted. Also, would "Towing" a trailor, be a problem, with this Machine?........... Thanks, in advance, for your time with this. Best regards,...Geoff........PS: Just realised, (As You said), that they ARE, "Semi Auto". I have ZERO experience, with Motor Bikes, haveing only driven Cars, all my life.

A reverse trike.
@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog3 жыл бұрын
Technically yes,
@BryanRuby3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Describing the Spyder and Ryker as a reverse trike is my go to description. Perhaps a less controversial description would be to call the Spyder a three-wheeler but then that would includes a larger class of trikes, reverse trikes, and car-like roadsters (Slingshots, Vanderhall, T-Rex).
@murfphone9143 жыл бұрын
There are two types of trike design, 'tadpole' with two wheels up front such as a Spyder, and 'Delta' with one wheel up front, such as a Tri-glide. It may be different elsewhere, but in the UK both types are legally classed as trikes, regardless of size or whether they resemble bikes or cars. Now, if we want to 'think' of trikes as being single front wheel only, that's a whole different discussion ;) Great vblog, by the way.
