I love that someone is finally posting friendly how-to ArcPro videos. The first two episodes of this series were paced so well! This one kind of hit me like a truck though haha. This was my first time seeing all the use of effects and coloring and shading and I couldn't quite follow it at your pace. (It's second nature to you!) Maybe just slow it down a little? I love your content though, keep it up! :)

This is great to see how you perform this in ArcGIS. I have been using a combination of your previous Hillshade ambient occlusion map hacks, and then DEM with Blender to get a realistic rendering of DEMs to look 3D. And it's always good to combine disciplines, but this makes for a new way of data visualization, thanks!

@JohnNelsonMaps5 күн бұрын
it's an option in the hillshade tool of spatial analyst or 3d analyst. it's not completely necessary though. you can get away without it. if you don't have those extensions, use the "raster function" version of hillshade.

@JohnNelsonMaps4 жыл бұрын
ah, thanks for the feedback! that's a good point. also the fact that i was time-lapse recording probably didn't make it easy to follow at that level of specificity either. in general, i mostly used the "soft light" blend mode for shadows unless something else looked better.

The first two episodes where wonderful, easy enough to follow. This one is spectacular with the effects and making the map pop out. However, everything moves so freaking quickly it is nearly impossible to follow with the tutorial. I have spent four hours trying to follow what should be a 17 minute tutorial. I understand that a lot of what is being done is up to the user, but it sure would be nice to know what steps are being followed in order to produce those effects.
