A friend of mine owned this exact body style about 20 years ago. It still ran and drove well enough for him. Now there's one for sale locally, for a ridiculously low price. Looks like original paint still intact and no rust to speak of. Even the interior is livable. This video has me VERY tempted. My wife barely stands my steadily improving 1970 Torino as it is, haha. If I bought it I'd have to sleep in it for a week. Once the Torino is done, I will be on the lookout for one of these most likely.

How would you like a working vacation in San Diego? I have a 1989 with a 2.6 that i always thought could use an aluminum V8. If you could put together a prep/ build sequence, list of parts and mods, I could get most of it done before you got here. I have my original '89 LS that I've had since "96 312K miles now a parts car for my other "89 and "91. once I'm done with it I don't want to recycle it at the scrap yard. looking forward to your help

Hey I live in SD and have a 90 Isuzu Pickup with a V8 in it. If you are on Facebook, hit me up. "San Diego Isuzu Owners Group" - I think that Johnny5 has the best solution for a daily driver Trooper, but if you want to see a V8 Zu, I'm happy to show you the truck so you can wrap your head around mods like the battery try, wiring, etc. Cheers! -G

Johnny5ive is there any performance parts for this V8 to make it have more than 250 hp and will the trooper handle it
@thomasjackson47436 жыл бұрын
Hey, how many horsepower does this motor make? Did you keep the rest of the trooper stock apart from the engine? What made you go for the Lexus motor over an LS?
@BradyJZA805 жыл бұрын
Fantastic work! That's an excellent conversion, and one i'd love to do myself. Which engine did you remove? I have a 2.8 diesel 4x4 Rodeo with an MUA5 gearbox, I'm wondering what the likelyhood is that the engine would fit without too much drama. How is the conversion now that you have done some driving with it? Cheers!

It,s nice to WATCH you make the switch..... but it would be nicer if you explained how-what you are doing. Trying to concentrate when loud head banging music pops up all of a sudden. ( Think how many questions you could be answering for everyone curious.......) I,m sure someone will share their experience for this project.

@Johnny5ive do you have a build thread? I’m curious about the mounts and the transmission. I’m assuming you kept the Isuzu trans, did you just need an adapter plate? Great motor for the truck, I had a 95 I think that had the garbage 4.3 GM with that awful TBI. I’d love to see more of this

@markfpotter6 жыл бұрын
Awesome! I have been following these vids for a while now. The two big things I am concerned about if I do this are exhaust and oil pan. Did yu use an unmodified oil pan? Did you have to make a full custom exhaust from the manifolds back?
@Johnny5troopers6 жыл бұрын
Ian Stacconi I did modify the oil pan but it was very easy. You could do it yourself or have a fab shop do it. The exhaust was custom but in future builds I intend to use the exhaust from the donor LS400. If you have a welder these issues can be done by you. If not then you would need to pay to have it done. If you do not have the tools to cut and weld metal then this swap is going to be a challenge.
@markfpotter6 жыл бұрын
Cool John. Thanks. I have a friend who is a millwright and a damn good welder. Probably would have him tackle the pan. As for the exhaust, I guess I would put my terrible welding skills to use- nobody's gonna see it! I really hope to do this next year or so. Only question is whether to swap the 1UZ into the daily driver or the parts Trooper. I really appreciate your vids, man. Great work.
