Intresting Greg. Have been curious about old bottles. Just ordered my first old bottle, Glenmoange 10 43% 1L duty free bottle from the 1980's. Hasn't arrived yet but should be fun. They had some high abv ones too but they were more expensive than I wanted to pay. Cheers

Thanks ! That Glenmorangie should be a treat, I think, if it has been kept safe enough over the years....Please keep me posted...Cheers !

Loving these comparisons old vs new. I don’t mind red label neat. I don’t reach for it all the time but if that’s all I see I’ll drink it lol. I got some ice spheres molds so I’ll give it a try on ice too. Cheers buddy 👍🥃

Thanks, Antonio, besides I was happy to attend your first ever live show (i broke my record of staying late for you, my friend !) then don't worry about technical issues, I learn from my first trials as well & now it is working way better live than ever, at least on my side (sometimes my guests have connection issues) but it still can happen even for more experience people than me...I hope to be able to do a live show together some day !

@@GregsWhiskyGuide thanks for being there 🙏. I couldn’t do it earlier since my brother worked that day and had to wait for him to get home. My daughter was downloading a video game while watching Netflix and then me streaming the video was too much for my internet lol. I watched the replay to see what I missed and if I should even keep it. It was almost comical at times 😂 one minute I’m there and then I’m gone then show up upside down 😂 I had fun just hanging out. Im keeping it 👍

Solid and thorough work again Greg. JW is definitely a very interesting brand as it is so closely intertwined with the whole history of scotch whisky

Thanks for the interesting comparison review Greg. The JW red is not good but as you say it’s made for drinking with ice or as a mixer . Would love one day to try the older bottling. Also bought a JW black 12 last year and was quite surprised how bad it was, I remember it being quite good, still at least the green label is still a good blended malt. Cheers Greg. Still waiting for the glenlivet 12. If I remember my first bottle was back in the mid 90’s, don’t ask me how it was, ive forgotten 🤔😅. Cheers Greg

Thanks, David, well "batch variations" & stuff, you know it, its a "Russian roulette" often at the supermarket...About the Glenlivet 12 yo "horizontal rundown", like I said one bottle is still missing (the "Illicit Still") & it is not easy with the curfew to go get it or expensive to make it deliver at my door, so I'll wait, but I'll keep you posted, and, besides (but I have the impression it is not for EU market) I don't have the new "Carribean cask finish" either, but can do my video without it. Cheers !

@@GregsWhiskyGuide Haven’t got the illicit 12 either, if I see it somewhere in a shop I’ll take a punt but won’t buy it online. Infact I rarely buy online I tend to buy mostly from my two local specialist shops. Supporting specialist shops to me is important.cheers Greg , enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

@@davidowen2834 Well I try to do it as well (support my local shop) but choice isn't always big (except that crazy supermarket not too far from me but even there you can't find everything, it's normal). Cheers & likewise

Weird... so the bottle i have is even older than yours. It's a "schieffelin & somerset co new york, ny" import, but looks completely different. Still after 1980's because it has milliliters (750). FIY dust on bottles is not a factor that matters. Could've been kept on a shelf in the sun or in a shelf in a cubard. What matters is the color of the label. If it's faded,... that's likely junky, if it's fresh, popping color... it's worth buying. The alcohol inside will keep the seal pretty well sealed on account of the atmosphere inside the bottle.

Interesting, hope your bottle is good....I would answer about preservation that even if the label is in good state (I agree it is a good sign) you have to take into account if the screwcap seal still work & alas I know some people who had bad surprises, including myself, with also cork stoppers, and the worst seems to be miniatures with aluminium screwcaps, I did explain that last year but it is true I've yet to do a specific video about preservation tips, and I'm late on it. Thanks for commenting & sharing your experience with an older bottle.

Greg, what are thoughts on Johnnie Walker Green? P.S. Today I picked up a bottle of Glendronach Parliament (always wanted a bottle).

Hi Doug, for a long time it was a great reference, for me as well, but a few weeks ago me & a group of people in our quite welcome C.O. club (initiated by New Dram Drinker, check it out in the description of one of their recent videos if you wanna learn more about it) we tasted it & were many to be disappointed compared to our early impressions, I don't know what happened, will have to retry my bottle before reviewing it...There might be some important batch variations, more asap....
