If it was in a documentary, chances are a digitized version is floating around somewhere. Production companies don’t just digitize a few scenes, it’s easier to digitize the whole thing and then select some. I bet they are sitting on a personal computer somewhere.

@landoflogic1074 жыл бұрын
@@fusetunes I knew a guy who worked with the people who made Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk. That doc had a lot of videos and live recordings and whatnot digitized that they didn’t even use, most notably never before heard Green Day demos and shows from when they were teens. Stuff that the general public had never heard or seen. They digitized all of it for preservation purposes, but as he once told me, they wouldn’t or couldn’t release due to not having band approval, or maybe wanting to release it on their own down the road. It’s an interesting side of documentaries that we don’t see. A lot of lost media exists in a digitized form, but you can’t just go post it on youtube afterward. It requires approval from the creator.

I suspect that Van Partible may not have the rights to distribute it. That quote on his website, "I sold my senior thesis project to Hanna Barbera", could be taken to mean that he sold all the rights related to Mess o' Blues to Hanna Barbera, which might make it so that he cannot legally publish a copy, or at the very least legally ambiguous enough that he might not want to risk it
@jeremyriley12384 жыл бұрын
That could be true. Chances are it is Warner Bros. property and Van Partible will not be able to release it without their permission. And yes, I said Warner Bros. since nowadays, they own the entire Hanna Barbera catalogue.

Hanna Barbera is shared by both WB Animation and Cartoon Network Studios. I hope they can find a way to release it but I believe the presumed use of an Elvis song could be an issue since the Elvis estate are notorious over uses of songs on other media.

Even if a copyrighted song was used, that probably isn't the reason as to why he doesn't want to release it, since he could just mute the audio then. Like you said, it might be because he dislikes the quality. It's not uncommon for artists to be embarrassed about their work, especially when it's old work. Even if they've improved so much, the fear of being judged for the quality of their first works still linger.

That question at the beginning: what is your most wanted piece of Lost media? Really got me thinking, and personally, i think it's Mogobe. Mogobe is a browser game from 2011, simmilar to club penguin that became lost in 2018 after a lawsuit against the game occured, forcing the devs to shut the game down. I have made two lost media wiki forum posts detailing my search. A close second is "o kaiser", considered the first piece of animation produced in Brazil in 1917, the only known look at the short that exists is a newspaper article promoting it with a single screenshot. But, i think mogobe wins, since i have a personal connection to it. By playing it a lot as a kid in 2012. Anyways, great video!

Shame there's no way he wants to share his student film. I'm sure even if it's as bad as he thinks it is, we'd all still love him for it. And if it is a matter of music rights that's something a LOT of student films do because they're not going to be released outside of the odd animation reel demo. I knew of one case where a student was animating a music video for a certain very specific song as a project, and the professor basically said that if it got out, the music copyright holder would wind up owning the short. If that's the case here, maybe he can upload it silent. It's better than nothing.

I’d say what happened to it was it got Hertzfeldt’d. If he doesn’t like the short or is embarrassed by it (i.e. Genre or Ah Lamour) it gets the boot. It’s probably safe to say it was floating around on a website or even KZbin, but it got the boot due to lack of meeting standards, or copyright. The reason is still unspecified though.

Like Johnny Bravo is a knock-off from the Mess o'Blues Elvis impersonator character Van Partible developed in 1993 as part of his senior thesis at Loyala Marymount, Johnny Dongle, on Facebook, anyway, (I don't know about the "Terrible Baby Names" or "Erotications" for sure) is a knockoff of that knock off. I was thinking about Dongle and Elvis and impersonators this morning as I related a different story from a hearing that occurred after the event I'm describing here which reminded me of how often his cartoon and antics were in synchronicity with current events around me in the court system, and particularly with a certain group of lawyers. On one day in the summer of 2017, I had occasion to conduct a deposition of one these attorney's clients. I was associated as counsel on a case that was going downhill fast, and I think everyone, particularly the person who associated me, thought it would not survive summary judgment. By associating me to argue despite the lack of foundation in the prior pleadings, he could easily have said that it was my lack of performance in court, not his lack of prior work and pleadings, and saved face. But the client didn't lose on summary judgement at that hearing because of my rapidly put together pleadings and argument against summary judgment. The man who associated me didn't even attend the hearing and his shock was obvious when I called to tell him that we had won and were moving forward with discovery. So, on the day I was reminded of, discovery had commenced, and it was time for depositions, but the deponent, a defendant in a civil action here in Mississippi, but also under indictment in the state of Texas, was not prepared and had not produced adequate responses to discovery, particularly requests for production of documents. It was a polite but contentious deposition. The attorney representing him, whose initials just happen to be TV and he's a JD, that's hilarious, had a close tie with my former law firm and a history with me that he may have thought I had forgotten. Finally, it was lunch time and so I went over to the Muddy Waters Barbeque over in Gulfport and was having lunch, scrolling through what Johnny and the gang were doing, and sure enough there was a little cartoon uploaded of a guy with the caption, "I thought I was walking through a sliding glass door". That sure made sense considering the history of the case and who had associated me to pilot the crash that never happened. Particularly since the deposition had certainly not been a walk in the park for the guy. I still have the screen shot of that cartoon and a lot of others like it. Coincidences never cease. And Elvis, well on another occasion I was in court with Judge Persons in the Biloxi Chancery Courtroom and instead of the portrait of one of the previous presiding judges in that Court, on the wall hung a picture of Elvis Presley. Later it was removed, but I still have the photo I took of Elvis hanging on the wall like a judge. I wondered why he allowed that and later I wondered why he quoted the Bible from the bench. Oh well, life's like that.

Hey, man. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your videos. They really mean a lot to me. Here's a suggestion: So there's this lost JoJo's Bizzare Adventure movie from the early 2000s. It has been extremely sought after for a few reasons. It was the first animation of JoJo part 1, and it played in theatres but was lost to time because it was never put out on DVD. There are no known recordings of it either. I've watched a few vids of it, and it seems to be on the tips of everyone's tongues, so maybe you can snatch it up :). I also think it would get tons of views since JoJo's has such a large and dedicated fanbase (even if they're kinda salty sometimes). Just a stupid request. Thanks!
