Hard to believe that JC was gone just 10yrs later, his body ravaged by illness. He looks well here, strong and healthy. RIP 🙏

It usually happens pretty quick. My dad went from working out 6 days a week and in phenomenal shape to looking like an old frail cripple in 3-4 months. Past bodybuilding had done a number on his lumbar spine and both of his hips & knees. Thankfully having 2 vertebrae fused and replacing one of his hips fixed about 90% of his pain but it only got worse. Once your health starts slipping it’s hard to get it back under control.

A complete renaissance man and the last of my heroes. Never afraid to launch into something entirely new and different, even when it showed he was only human. I doubt we’ll get many more Oxford educated Rhodes scholar, helicopter piloting musicians who could write the best country and crossover songs, raise hell and face the consequences of it with a smile. It was written in 1959 and Lefty Frizzell recorded it. I wouldn’t call it traditional, maybe some arrangement present it that way. I think the Chieftain’s version is hard to beat.

There is an interesting story about how Johnny and Kris met so many years ago. As the story goes, Kris had been a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and had a song he wanted Johnny to hear, so he rented a helicopter and landed it in Johnny's back yard. Kris got a gig, and they became lifelong friends, but also friends with Waylon, Willie, Dolly, etc, etc

@charlescanterbury97624 жыл бұрын
I'm not a big Cash fan, but this is a pretty good version of one of my favorite songs. Kris adds a lot to it. One other thing, to suggest that this a Cash song, is heresy, Lefty Frizzell owns this song, no one touches him on it.
@biggestkkfan15064 жыл бұрын
yes, this is not a Cash song. But not a Lefty Frizzell song either. As far as I know it was written by Marijohn Wilkin, the one who also wrote the beautiful One day at a time 😊 Have just googled, Danny Dill co-wrote it. She even wrote an answer song - that was new to me kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWfNaauggrtjppI

I am with you Charles. Cash wrote very few of his hits and did a lot of covers. I think he is one of the most over-rated country stars ever. Merle Haggard was in a completely different category than Cash. And Lefty does own this song.
@jcucch46033 жыл бұрын
@@marccohen4571 Absolutely atrocious statement. He might not be in your top five country artists and that’s fine but he is an outlaw legend. Him and a select few redefined country. Very stupid statement.

Johnny's face is thin here...he had a drug relapse........who's guess he's be gone in 2003 (Graves disease)
@msuddie12372 жыл бұрын
@Mightymole he is thin here because just before this his jaw had been wired shut from one of the many surgeries he had where they tried to fix his broken jaw and the associated nerve problem in his jaw - he lost a lot of weight during this time as he could only take in liquids. Also, Johnny Cash did not have Graves Disease - if you do your research you will find out that he was finally diagnosed with autonomic neuropathy (after being previously misdiagnosed with both Shy Draeger Syndrome and Parkinsons) and he was diabetic- he died from complications resulting from his diabetes.
@M1nglew00d7 жыл бұрын
Of course i'm not d\so honourably stupid (or would one say stupidly honourable?) I would have told the judge I was in the arms of my best friend's wife. Might have lost a lover and a best friend, but the lady in the long black veil would not have to roam around missing her sleep. ;) It was quite likely that the slayer was the woman's husband, knowing he'd get away with his crime, counting on the guilty behaviour of his wife and best friend.
