Mr Kristofferson is so humble and respectful of Mr Cash.... what a great friendship and musical relationship those two had. I love it. I love this song.
Kris Kristofferson is such an interesting person; he's a Rhode's scholar; a brilliant songwriter..wrote "Me & Bobby McGee".. & also a top notch helicopter pilot; served during the Vietnam war. His father was a highly ranked, military officer & thought Kris would follow suit. But, instead Kris moved to Nashville & pursued a music career. Johnny Cash was his hero & Kris started out there, cleaning recording studios; one that Johnny worked at & Kris once said, that when he first met Johnny, he was doing drugs, especially speed & Kris said, that Johnny looked like a live wire, all in black, skin & bones, twitching. But, he adored Johnny & wanted him to record one of his songs & actually landed a helicopter in Johnny's backyard, to get his attention. It worked.

Ditto on the thanks for your husband's service, DivineSimply, and for your service, James Smith! You're so right about the authenticity of the lyrics. It was so weird when I first heard this song (over a decade and a half ago) how it took my mind right back to Sunday mornings in my own life. Though I was a Christian at the time, memories of going through a time in my life having wild Saturday nights (not just those nights, if I'm honest) then skipping church the next day while hungover, spending Sundays by myself came flooding back. Wise lyrics with a good lesson in this song Kris wrote. God bless you both and your families!

that's amazing the simple fact that Johnny gave the credit where it was due. He was/ is amazing, just cause he passed doesn't mean that his spirit is it's in his music & fans hearts. If it wouldn't have been for him we probably wouldn't know who Kris Kristofferson was, & that would be a damn shame.

With all due respect--and that's a LOT of respect--to Johnny, if we had to make a choice between having only Johnny Cash or Kris Kristofferson in our culture and completely exclude the other, I'd take Kris every day of the week and twice on Sunday. It's because of the reason my son was invited to be in so many bands even though he was just a slightly above-average average drummer/vocalist. He was told by many front men: "Hell, players and singers are a dime a dozen. We need guys who can WRITE!" Everybody's glad we never had to choose.

It’s kind of Funny I grew up on Country Music as my Dad always had the radio on some Country Music station either in the car or the garage where we spent many hours together I know this is a Kris Kristofferson song but i guess I’m so used to Johnny Cash singing it that it sounds strange hearing Kris sing a few verses Johnny Cash is one of my favorites of all time and I’m proud to say that when my own son was just a kid i found a working Stero with a 8 track player in it and gave it to my son for his bedroom not long after that family was cleaning up a vacation property and they came upon a large box of old 8 tracks many of which were Country Western Artists I must say that one of my proudest moments as a parent was when i walked into my sons room and he had a group of his friends listening to Johnny Cash albums my Son is a grown ma now and he still has a liking and love for Artists like Johnny Cash, John Denver ,Hank Williams Jr. and many other greats i too still listen to all my Dads old records many of which ive digitalized for myself and the ease of playing them. On modern radio / stereo equipment on my fishing a boat , Work truck, and any other place i might be at having them in that format allows me to carry them around on a small device although in all honesty i prefer listening to them on Analog equipment personally its funny because my Sons era thinks like they discovered something new using the old equipment that myself and my friends owned in the 1970s and 80s ! Ironically in the 90s i started collecting and Hoarding many components as i came accross them in Thrift Shops and Yard Sales many Family and Freinds knew i liked the older equipment and very often gave me their old things at that period most of the eqipment wasnt valued very high monetarily And i could /would trade items or services for some of it and could clean pots, replace belts , or lubricate parts pretty cheaply to restore them to their former working Glory to listen to

The story is Kris wrote this song and hired a helicopter and landed on Johnny's lawn in Henderson Tennessee to pitch it. Johnny loved it and sang it on his weekly tv show but not before his producers told him to leave out the word 'stoned'. Kris was told about it and was surprised when Johnny said stoned very clearly. Great song!
@jimg20aia7 жыл бұрын
I heard him tell the story about this. He did land a helicopter in Johnny's yard to give him a song. No, it was not "Sunday Morning..." He also points out that no one wants to ask the last question. No, Johnny did not record that song. In that same interview the woman asked Kris if he thought he was a good singer. Kris laughed and said, "No! No one thinks I'm a good singer!"

To omit the word "stone" from this song would have definitely, minimized the effect on the listeners ! Many of us have woken up on a Sunday morning from a black out , in places we would have never went had we been sober !

A lot of people don't realize what a BRILLIANT songwriter Kris Kristofferson is ... including this one, Me and Bobby McGee, Help Me Make it through the Night which he wrote after after reading an interview with Frank Sinatra, in which Sinatra said that he believed in “booze, broads or a Bible … whatever helps me make it through the night.” and one of the most powerful and underrated songs EVER - They Killed Him (a brilliant song about Gandhi, MLK, Jesus Christ, the Kennedy Brothers, The Highwayman -- just a BRILLIANT truly inspired poet.

I was 6 when I first heard this song. It ingrained in me that there were really awesome songs out there that were not on the top 40.
