great job! I got me a new electric guitar from somebody at work recently and I've been starting to play Johnny Cash stuff I can only play what Luther does without the strings be muted only where would ring like on I Walk the Line or on I still miss someone put on other songs like Get Rhythm hey Porter I'm curious to know how do you mute strings like that where the strings don't ring completely when you're playing the part that Luther Perkins plays how do you mute the strings like that because I tried it and it won't play a note if I just keep my hand on the string and not press it so how do you mute the strings when you're playing the Luther Perkins part?
@Getrhythmgausdal8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. The only way to get the perfect "string mute" is simply a lot of practice. I found it hard when I started playing like Luther too, and I tried a lot before I got it. My advice is to try to move your palm back and forth on the bridge till you get a nice sound. When you palm mute and can't get a note out of your pickin', it means you mute too much. Try to move your palm further back on the bridge. Hope you found that helpful.

Hey I just got an Esquire for Christmas and I would love to know your sound setup! Like your amp and stuff! Thanks!
@Getrhythmgausdal11 жыл бұрын
Hey, congratulations on the Esquire! The first thing you would need, is to put some flatwound strings on your Esquire. Look into the brand Thomastik, string gauge should be .012. The thing about Luther is that he used pretty expensive amplifiers. He used a Fender Bassman in his early recordings, and later on he bought a Fender Super Reverb. I own a Super Reverb, and my friend owns a Bassman, so those are what i use. What makes these amplifiers sound like Luther is that they have a Bright switch on them. If you want to purchase a cheaper alternative to these amps, just look for one with the bright switch on them, like for example the Fender Blues Deville or Hot Rod deluxe. You want you're settings around pretty much 10(12) on everything, except volume and bass. And you need the volume on your guitar to be on 6 or 7. Hopes this helps you out! If you have any more questions, just ask!
@dodoproductions1411 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Yes I got flatwound strings put onto them when the esquire arrived! I have a Fender Super Champ x2 vintage tube amp and I'm quite satisfied. I might get a bassman later on or the Hot Rod. Thanks again!
@Getrhythmgausdal11 жыл бұрын
No problem! The vintage Fender amps just can't be beat, they are fantastic. The SuperChamp is really good for the old Sun Records sound, but when you one day would need that big mid-range "grunt" which you can hear on for example Live at Folsom Prison, the Bassman or Super-Reverb is the way to go. I certainly did not regret spending the extra money for it!

I have another question if you don't mind. I'm having a real hard time getting a good volume with my mic in front of my amp without clipping or scratchy sort of sounds…Do you have any recommendations? Thanks

P.S. do you do any other editing to the sound after you've recorded it? P.S.S Sorry I'm only 13 and yea. Anyway can you check out my new ring of fire cover and see what things i can different? I'd appreciate it! Thanks!
@Getrhythmgausdal11 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I am not quite sure what could be causing this.. Are you using a USB-connected microphone or are you going through a soundcard? Usually i don't like to EQ the guitar after i've recorded it, cause I usually have the exact tone I want out of my amplifier. But sometimes I find that the sound comes out a little thin on the recording, so I basically just give it a little boost in the low end (bass), and then I am happy with it.
@dodoproductions1411 жыл бұрын
GRG | Get Rhythm Sorry for the late response...I'm using a normal large diaphragm condenser mic plugged into my interface. I have to put the mic like 8 inches away from my amp so I don't get clipping. I saw luther put's his mic like right on the amp. I really don't know what's causing it.
@dodoproductions1411 жыл бұрын
dodoproductions14 Could you please check out my Folsom Prison Blues cover?
@Getrhythmgausdal11 жыл бұрын
I actually have the same problem with my mic, but i don't know what is causing it. I was told that my interface maybe has a construction flaw, so maybe yours has got the same.. But what i do to solve it, is that i put a Shure SM57 right in front on the amp, and then a condenser mic further away, to capture the big room sound from my amp. This gives it a little more head room, and a bit more natural reverb as well. So i kind of "blend" the two mics together in the mix. Nice cover of Folsom! I commented on the post.
