His songwriting was so good from Day One -- absolutely loaded with details and specifics, yet so relaxed and conversational. Clearly a keen observer of life. I hate songs that just repeat the same verse or two all the time.

On this day in 1969 {June 14th} Johnny Cash performed "Hey, Porter" on his ABC-TV program 'The Johnny Cash Show'... Fourteen years earlier in 1955 the song was released as the B-side of his first Sun Records record, "Cry! Cry! Cry!"... R.I.P. Mr. Cash {1932 - 2003}...

@Cortexmelon Really? A sad thing, that Marshal had to go. I guess he irritated Cash by watching over him too much, which Cash probably found to be patronising behavoir, as far as I've understood. According to Grant, Cash was already back into pills again, which may also help to explain the firing of Marshal, I guess he wouldn't have done that if he were still straight.

@RM-eo3uu4 жыл бұрын
Heather Tremblay you need to check your history, Johnny Cash fired Marshall Grant in 1980. Marshall then filed a lawsuit against Johnny, and Johnny filed a lawsuit against Marshall. Marshall then became the manager of the Statler Brothers and stayed with the Statler's until their retirement in 2002. Marshall and Johnny did reconcile their differences in the late 90s and remained friends up until Johnny's death in September of 2003.

Love the song. Personally I quit drinking seven years ago...anyone who brags about drinking normally looks like a wrinkled up paper bag by the time they're 40. Cash always looked like garbage, as talented as he was. You folks are the same. Take a good look some morning when you scrape yourself off of the floor. Cheers !
