Huge fan of Johnny, thank you for doing this 😊. He is singing about addiction, coming down from the night before. He suffered, and understood the suffering of others. I resonate with this song on many levels....thank God for Johnny Cash. RIP

When Johnny Cash did this live on a show they wanted him to change the line "I wish I was stoned." He agreed and went out and sang the line anyway. I like Kris Kristofferson's version also (Kris wrote this song). You should read up on how Johnny and Kris met, interesting story that involved a helicopter.

Back then, stoned meant drunk on alcohol

@@kathrynkissane5144 No, it didn't. It meant high. They asked him to use the word drunk. He agreed and went out and said stoned.

@@rhiahlMT They actually told Johnny to sing- wishing lord that I was "home" rather than "stoned".

I love this song, because I've lived this song and so have you. Sunday is depression personified. Its the furthest point from what you love. Sunday isn't anticipation, its regret.

The Johnny Cash TV Show went on for almost one and a half years (June1969 - March 1971). He had great songs and big collaboration with artists like duos.

Derek & the Dominoes made an appearance on Johnny Cash's TV show. (Early group with Eric Clapton, Jim Gordon, Carl Radle and Bobby Whitlock. What did Mr. Cash think of the hippies?)

Wow. I have not even watched yet. I am stunned to see a first time site doing this song. I request it, but... Kris Kristofferson is an amazing songwriter.

One of my favorite songs by Johnny Cash. If you haven't listen to "One Piece at a Time" by him.

Oh, yeah! haven't thought about "one piece at a time" in years... what a great song! thanks for the reminder! (and it didn't cost me a dime-lol)

I love Johnny Cash but much prefer the version recorded by Kris Kristofferson who wrote this song and many other classics. Kris’s voice isn’t was good, but it feels more honest.
